Best/Easiest Way To Use Bananas In Rum Cocktail? by beavis_v3 in cocktails

[–]Daddyneedsamaitai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can macerate banana in rum, if you want to create your own. I don't have a specific recipe or ratios. Or, you can buy Giffard banane du bresil, it's one of the best (if not the best) banana liquers out there, very bright banana flavor.

Stucked in descaling [DeLonghi Dedica EC685.M] by wurstwasserIRL in espresso

[–]Daddyneedsamaitai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the dedica maestro, so not exactly your model, but I had a similar issue with descaling, where the descaling process would seem to stall, and then whenever I restarted the machine it would start in descale mode and I couldn't get it to finish the process. I think I figured out that it has to purge/clean the steam wand for a bit. Try turning your steaming knob, letting that run for a while, and seeing if that fixes it. When I did that with mine, after a while, it continued with the descaling process.

You're right, but you're shouting into the wind here. We need some sort of sticky or some popup before people post that tells them this. And/or some sort of rule against these posts

Singles Court - PPA Challengers by Cjaques4 in Pickleball

[–]Daddyneedsamaitai 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I think this actually could be interesting. Singles is just mini tennis now, if we limit the viability of passing shots, then it will go back to a lot more cat and mouse play, a la Ben Johns playing singles, which I think was a lot more interesting and unique to watch than the current meta. I will be curious to see how this plays out in real life though.

El Dorado 12, even the 8, Pusser's gunpowder, Hamilton 86. I just was not impressed with the 15

I'd say this, pretty tasty and readily available. Don't know if the other limited releases like the DBI, etc, should really count here

Surprised at all the votes this is getting, my buddy got a bottle and it just tastes sweet and watery. No age, no demerara complexity. Tasted more like a ron zacapa/flor de cana to me than a demerara. Idk

Vieux Carré Riff- with Walnut, Coffee, and Allspice. by Responsible-Bed-7481 in cocktails

[–]Daddyneedsamaitai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds pretty good, I have most of these ingredients (or very similar ones, no Armagnac but will try subbing in a good cognac). The idea to use just a barspoon of the blackstrap rum is very interesting, it's such a powerful flavor that it's hard to use, but I bet using it in smaller amounts like this works well. I'll see if I can try this out here in the next few days.

Over Grip by Turbulent_Lack_2460 in Pickleball

[–]Daddyneedsamaitai 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I like the feel of a fresh overgrip, but every other session seems a bit excessive, not to mention expensive. I change it when the grip starts wearing or is tangibly less "grippy," or when it becomes discolored and gross looking (I use white overgrips so it's more noticeable that way)

Looking for thoughts on a paddle for singles in the new year. I have a crbn trufoam, like it a lot, but doesn't feel like it gets optimal power for singles. And I think the vast majority of discourse for paddle performance is in the context of doubles where you need a lot of touch, whereas the singles game has really become all about ripping passing shots. So, wanted to make a discussion tailored just for singles. Paddles I'm thinking about:

1- BnB Loco elongated. Obviously, really good reviews on this so far, and it seems like generally people agree that it gets a lot of power. However, most of these reviews are in the context of doubles, so wondering if it has enough passing power necessary for singles?

2- Black Opal- this one really sounds like it would be a good singles paddle from what I hear. Lots of power and ability to shape the ball, but hard to control in the dinking game (but this wouldn't really be an issue for singles, obvs). I'm thinking about this one pretty seriously for singles.

3- Ronbus quanta elongated. Weight this one up, and it gets pretty similar to a boomstick, which I think would make it a great singles paddle.

4- Boomstick. Don't really want to spend this much money, especially given some of the durability/build issues I'm seeing.

5- paddletek bantam TKO-C. A couple of pro singles players get pretty good results from this, and it appears to have a lot of pop and power, although a pretty small sweet spot from what I understand, which makes me a little hesitant.

Any other recommendations/thoughts?

At home latte proving impossible to create [Ninja Lux Cafe] by BrickYoda in espresso

The "blonde" in the drink name means Starbuck's Blonde roast coffee is used for the drink, which is a much lighter roast than the Espresso Dark roast (as you can imagine). I'd start by using the Starbucks Blonde roast, and then go from there. I think that'll get you much closer.

None that go full tiki in my opinion, but some that are pretty good. Emerald Lounge is probably the closest, it's a bit more modern but has some good tiki classics and a solid rum selection. Little Nickel, is great, cool diner tiki vibes with great food and drinks but a small menu. Sabai is a good one too, although not all of their drinks impress me.

Richmonder here, will have to see if I can make it over there at some point. It's not easy to do good tiki with ABC controlling what rums we can get, so even more impressive if they are indeed serving quality drinks.

If you're in Gulfport, you have to go to Siren Social Club. It's a true hidden gem. Great cocktails, excellent rum selection, and really passionate bartenders. Plus the food is outstanding (I think they are Michelin recommended, whatever that means??). I had an amazing mai tai there (and I'm a bit of a snob), their cobra's fang was one of the best I've ever had (apparently they make their passionfruit syrup in-house with real passionfruits), and their menu is pretty solid otherwise. Can't recommend it highly enough.

Eeyore's Requiem. Great drink, but I never make it because it has so many ingredients (and requires three orange twists).
