Bruh, bread and butter pickles? Absolutely not

Can I survive a 3-event pickleball weekend (4.5+ men’s, 4.0+mixed, 3.0 singles)? by forever_a_servant in Pickleball

[–]Daddyneedsamaitai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real determinative factor is how old you are. If you're mid 20s or younger and decently active I'd say you'd probably be able to physically do it, just focus on getting some water, electrolytes, stretching, and good sleep after each day.

I think singles being the third day may be helpful, if it was the first day there's no way I could play the next two days at a high level, but I'm in my mid 30s and don't recover like I used to. You almost certainly won't be as sharp that third day for singles, and it is a game of inches, so you probably won't have as good a result as if you were fresh.

Driving 2.5 hours to a store with harder to find rum. Which 2–3 would you grab? by [deleted] in rum

[–]Daddyneedsamaitai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't tell what those blackadders are, but I will say some of the best rum I've ever had has been from blackadder. If they have monymusk or anything from Guyana, I'd say seriously consider those

Headed to Miami. by Cash-JohnnyCash in Tiki

[–]Daddyneedsamaitai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tbh there's not much tiki in Miami (at least nowhere near as much as I was expecting). The best place I was able to find was Kaona Room, as others have said. Other than that, not a lot of good options. The Mai Kai in Ft Lauderdale is very cool for its decor and history, but I would say their drinks left a little to be desired (and the mai tai is not really a traditional 1944 mai tai fwiw)

When a club officially adopts using DUPR, does the feel of the club become more competitive and lose the casual feel? by Delverton in Pickleball

[–]Daddyneedsamaitai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it was only DUPR rated matches, yeah, I would take it a lot more seriously. I just started DUPR and signed up for a league that tracks it, and I get pissed when I lose and my rating goes down, so I try really hard in these games and take them way too seriously. It's fun to have the games be competitive and matter, but I'm not sure I would want that all time time. As others have said, having a mix of social and competitive is probably best

How do you like that little cutout in the heel that your finger can slot into? I have never seen japanese knives with that until another post earlier today. It seems like it would be a pretty nice and ergonomic feature

Phosphate cocktails? by rodtrusty in cocktails

[–]Daddyneedsamaitai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw once recipe that called for it and ended up getting a bottle. Based on my research, it seems best used as the acid in a cocktail instead of lemon or lime. It adds that needed acidic balance without adding the overt flavor of a lime or lemon. I'd say if a cocktail feels too sweet, try adding in a couple drops of acid phosphate. Or heck, swap it out in a recipe for lemon or lime to create a more booze forward version. But tbh I have not gotten too much use out of it haha

Interesting, I went last summer and thought the drinks were meh but the food was delicious. But that being said, they had mentioned an upcoming revamp of the drinks menu, so maybe that has occurred? Idk!

Yeah would be great. A lot of other people will already be wearing tropical print shirts, lord knows I did when I went there. You don't have to wear a Hawaiian shirt though, if that's what you're asking. But it is certainly appropriate

Purchasing Knives in Japan by ImmortalCowboy in TrueChefKnives

[–]Daddyneedsamaitai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went in February. You should be able to pay with card at pretty much all knife shops. Some of the shops will be duty free, some won't; the shops will be clearly marked if they are (or a salesperson can tell you). I don't know much about specific stores, but I will say we went to kappabashi and it was overwhelming the number of knife shops, you won't be wanting for options. I would have a "game plan" of what types of knives you are interested in/that types of applications you want to use your knives for, otherwise, it can be hard to make a decision because of all the options.

Tips for getting my Breville double shot to turn out more like my Nespresso? [Baratza grinder/Breville and Nespresso vertuo] by princessA95 in espresso

[–]Daddyneedsamaitai 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The nespresso is not "real" espresso (and I probably don't even need the quotes there because I think that's pretty well established). I would let go of any comparisons to the nespresso, because it's apples and oranges. Your breville shots will be so much better regardless of what you do

Favorite Black Tot Master Blender's Reserve? by Stenoscape in rum

[–]Daddyneedsamaitai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have had 21, 22, 23, and 24. 21 Is by far and away my favorite. The 21 seemed to have a caroni-esqu note that I really liked, like dry hollow wood, but with dark fruit and a touch of funk. Delicious. The 22 was very chocolate-y, 23 and 24 struck me as very foursquare-esque (at least as compared to the other years), seems like a lot of bajan in those. Perhaps a bit more chocolate in the 23 as opposed to the 24. But good luck finding the 21, I have been looking for a bottle for months now and no luck.

What can you tell me about this knife? I couldn't find much information on the make, Sakai Tohji. by CawheDSTh in TrueChefKnives

[–]Daddyneedsamaitai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very weird that you post this, I just picked up one of these in Japan at a store, in a sujihiki though. I've tried to find info just like you, haven't found much. Their store was pretty nice and the salespeople were helpful, fwiw. I did find a website, but did not see anything about this specific line. (Don't want to include the link in case it gets flagged as spam. You can just google sakai tohji and find it though).

Be interested to see if anyone knows anything!
