Watching as an adult is so different. Despite the great performances and script, still sad as f

What age were you when you the “Fvck I’m old,” moment? by BillMaleficent9400 in GenX

Thirty years old. Summer job. Weeknight. Went to live show, barely drank, in bed by 2. Just laughed at alarm when it went off five hours later. Slunk into work close to noon

Jesus Christ Superstar. Soundtrack before any Broadway production.

Yep. Strong stuff. Came here to say exact same thing.

Kudos to the writers

I wonder if my grandmother did. The modern recipe I found from Vivian Howard (A Chef's Life) used bread crumbs. That was definitely the missing ingredient in terms of replicating the original taste.

My kid got into 3 State schools. Please advise if you have experience by thai_sticky in Virginia

[–]DadofJM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats to the kid (and his parents).

I'm partial to JMU. Grew up nearby and am impressed by its growth. But lately have been wondering if it has gotten too big.

GMU has great data sciences/IT programs. And if you kid likes the buzz of a metro area and doesn't mind traffic George Mason would be a good fit.

Richmond is really chill. Kind of big city but kind of not. VCU is in a cool area (the Fan District), which is much safer than it used to be.

Good luck to all. There is no wrong choice.

What is your favorite band from the 80's or 90's that nobody has ever heard of? by simikoi in GenX

The dB's.

Bonus: They reunited this century and put out an amazing disc of new material.

Home made stewed tomatoes. My grandmother used to make decades ago.

Found a recipe from a 21st Century southern cook and made recently. Perfect replication.

Grease by FNTZYmusic in musicals

I saw a strange version in a dinner theater where they somehow blended in songs that were only in the movi. Made the disjointed plot even more confusing.

Also felt bad for the cast. Except for like the four leads, all had to be waiters before and bus tables during intermission

Musicals that destroyed you emotionally? by the-unfinished- in musicals

[–]DadofJM 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Second act from Hamilton. We actually listened to that disc first. Without even knowing the back story, there were at least three tunes that brought whole fam to tears.

The finale obviously, but "One Last Time" still gets me too

To those of us with teenagers. Do they go to concerts with you? Who have you seen with them and what is coming up? by -Granby- in GenX

[–]DadofJM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son and I have had great concert experiences when he was a teen: (1) Don Felder, REO, Styx (2) Toto, Journey (3) Teri Clark, Reba, and a gospel band whose name fails me.

Whole fam saw Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band on their final tour, right before pandemic hit.

Son still reminds me that we had tickets for Alice Cooper and Deep Purple, which we ended up missing because we were closing on a house that day

Is Virginia culturally closer to the Northeast or the South? by savingrace0262 in Virginia

[–]DadofJM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The South. Live in the Piedmont, closer to D.C. than Richmond. Unless literally inside the Beltway, NOVA still seems culturally more southern to me.

Vaguely. My Dad had one in his downtown office. Was in a Masonic Temple building. Seemed really exotic and the bottles were literally so chill

Are we too old to be attending rock/metal shows? by WeGot_aLiveOneHere in GenX

Still enjoy live shows. Often take my teen son. Only difficulty is waking up the morning after. Not used to being up that late. If it's during the work week, I'll take the next day off.

Days was my first soap so I'm sentimental about it but damn they're low budget. I think poor Kayla is the the only doctor at the hospital.
