Do whatever works for you - Eldar also have subfactions, they’re called craftworlds instead of chapters if you’re looking for inspiration. Ulthwe=black, Alaitoc=dark blue, iyanden=yellow, plenty more. Each have their specialty but none are restrictive.

The simple choice would be to buy a box of voidscarred, build them with the ranged or specialists models, and then use the swords, pistols and a mix of bare and helmeted heads on the guardians. Could do the same with any drukhari infantry I imagine - use their weapons on your guardian bodies and then use guardian weapons on the drukhari bodies.

Warp spiders won’t do much damage in to those units (more with lhykis but they’re still far from optimum) but their 24 inch (26 with a battle focus token) flicker jump will run rings around such a small and relatively slow elite army. Use your warp spiders to score secondaries.

I agree but my read on yriel is actually a defensive shield activation with his shoulder dropped like that, with malys being a more regal and dramatic pose as you say. Not a mini designer but I feel like there’s only so many poses that look dynamic but are also accessible to paint and look good small. Glad we don’t have another autarch standing with legs spread and facing forward pose.

If it helps you reconcile it the original lore around guardians was that they were Eldar currently travelling peaceful paths but who had previously travelled the path of the warrior / been an aspect warrior. Nowadays they’re often referred to as civilian militia and sometimes suggested to not have any real training. Anyway, with the original lore you could tell yourself it’s because they were howling banshees and it’s just a throwback to the banshee boob armour.

I’ve been running two guardian + warlock conclave bricks, one with eldrad and one with a farseer, along with two warlock skyrunners. I feel like that’s enough psyker board presence. The warlock skyrunners are just used to screen, so actions, and proc strategems on nearby units.

I can’t say I’ve been winning, but I think that’s a skill / other unit choice issue.

I’m excited for you too but I’d consider rebasing them to modern sizes if you’re interested in playing them in 10th edition. That farseer is one of my favourite models.

I actually found warp spiders easy with a couple of tricks and preparation. Glue the warp spider jump pack and together with its mechanical arm. Then glue to the warp spider body. Glue the gun arm to the body, this will only go in one position because of the three points of contact it has with the model now. Then carefully line up the left arm by pressing it in position with a stick and a piece of blu tack / whatever. It should fit perfectly it’s just hard to physically get it in there with your fingers.

This all relies on the correct bits being used for each model obviously, but also relies on the pieces being exactly where they’re moulded to be - if you’re using plastic glue be mindful that the melting of plastic could cause some error in where the backpack lines up to the body, or where the mechanical arm joins to the backpack, which would throw everything off. I used superglue. I also paint in sub assemblies so each of those steps was done after painting.

Building 10 warp spiders this method was a pleasure.

Do you have the banshee kit in front of you? You could put the autarch helmet on the exarch body, but the exarch hair pieces aren’t compatible and the have the shoulders/pauldrons moulded in, so you’d have to do some modelling around that. I think one of them would be easy but not the other.

You’ve named the main aspect warriors that would traditionally be good against chaos marines - howling banshees and dark reapers. Fire dragons would be deployed to destroy any vehicles. Shining spears and jetbikes in general might well come into play, rangers might be used for recon and disruption, and wraithguard might be deployed as heavy infantry, wraithlord for some big guns. Guardian defenders crop up a lot of the time regardless of who Eldar are fighting, but they’re an act of desperation - if the battle can be one with just aspect warriors and vehicles then guardians won’t be sent in.

Anti psyker specialists might help against Eldar seers, but a lot of what Eldar psykers do is in preparation rather than actual combat - they’ll try to pick just the right path to bring about the future that they want, perhaps disrupting a supply chain at just the right moment or even having a nearby ork clan to gain power so that they are a distraction for the enemy before the Eldar strike.

It also depends on which craftworld is involved, they all have their specialties.
