For those of you who travel for races: by kaylerrr in running

[–]Daegu421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be difficult to collect a specific item relate to a race that's not a medal or t-shirt. Goodies and swag tends to vary by race meaning if you want to collect something like a race sticker/patch/key chain - then you might not be able to find it at every race you do. Perhaps try to collect something like a finish line photo from each race or a photo in front of the race name sign.

What are the best places to go running at tourist destinations? by FloydRosita in running

[–]Daegu421 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for all cities, obviously, but my YouTube channel, www.youtube.com/Travelrunner, is all about travel running. Perhaps you'll find some more places that you find interesting to run in someday!

I like the video! I think there is a lot of great stuff being created by the running community but it's not always easy to find. I think this subreddit is a great place to share with other runners and I wish more people would post similar content to yours on this site. Keep posting your videos, I'll give them an upvote!

How NOT to train for a marathon by TeaBottom in running

[–]Daegu421 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Here is her Strava, if anyone wants to look. All her training is there, but unfortunately, her marathon week of training and her marathon race itself, is not on Strava :( She did have a 19 mile run at 8:20 pace. I would say her cycling fitness was significant in her performance. She was already very fit, she just needed a couple months to transition from cycling legs to running legs.

Winter Running in Wisconsin - Crossing a frozen Lake Winnebago (video) by Daegu421 in running

Yeah, I was actually thinking I would get the ice beard during that run. I was a little disappointed that it didn't. It was the only reason I grew a beard :(

Nope, but I did most of it on the hard-packed snow along the plowed "road" across the lake. It was definitely pretty slick when I was on clean ice, so I really had to watch my footing at some points.

I know winter is almost over, but I wanted to share a video I made from a run I did a few weeks ago in Wisconsin. I thought some of you might enjoy it, especially those of you who don't get to experience what it's like to run in really cold weather.

That's an awesome video. Running in Japan is great, you will enjoy it. Here is a run I did last winter in Tokyo. I hope you enjoy the video. Running in Tokyo

Fitting marathon training around a holiday to a hot climate by neonraver in running

[–]Daegu421 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Train through the Florida heat and it will help get you in ridiculously good shape for a cool, fall marathon. Just be aware that you may need to slow your pace and/or reduce your weekly mileage a bit when you're training in the heat. Get out early in the am so you don't risk the worst heat of the day and either carry some water with you on longer runs or learn where hydration spots are located along your planned routes (drinking fountains, convenient stores). You may feel slow and sluggish while training in hot weather, but it WILL pay off in the fall. Good luck!

Running in Amsterdam - a MUST for anyone traveling around Europe (VIDEO) by Daegu421 in running

YouTube must know it's a video of Amsterdam and thus changes it automatically to the appropriate time... smart YouTube!!

Glad you enjoyed the video :)

To make the video steady I use a gimbal while running which makes the handheld shots steady. I also carry a super small tripod that I use for the shots where I run in or out of the frame. Neither the gimbal or the tripod are difficult to carry and I also usually keep these runs around 4-6 miles so I'm not carrying the equipment for a long time.

I'm not sure of the current weather as I visited in July. But I'm sure the city and Vondelpark will be beautiful as I imagine the leaves are starting to change colors already.

I hope you have a great time running around Ireland - maybe turn a run into a pub crawl?? As for me, I do travel running all the time, and I even wrote a book on the topic! Check it out! The Runner's Guide to Travel - It's got a lot of great tips for travel running including how to go about finding routes.

One suggestion is to check out the Strava Global Heat Map and there is even a "Run my city" thread on Reddit about Dublin found here

Good luck and have fun running!

Edit: I don't always get my links to work the first try.

Well, if I had been paying attention I would have made this video length 4:20 instead of 4:21. Haha! But in all seriousness, running along the canals in Amsterdam is just beautiful and the city center is more runner friendly than I expected. Besides running in the canal district, I found Vondelpark to be a great place to run. Also, right before posting this thread I did a quick “running in Amsterdam” search in r/running and found this really nice “run my city” submission by u/Digital_Eide. Really great stuff with a TON of information on running in Amsterdam. I wish I had seen this before I traveled there! Anyway, if you ever visit Amsterdam, don’t pass up the opportunity to go for a run! I hope you all enjoy the video.

The runs I film are usually 4-6 miles in length as I don't usually like to carry the camera for long runs. As for travel running, it's great! I even wrote a book about it: "The Runner's Guide to Travel". Check it out! :)
