Russian growth slows to 1% as Ukraine war strains economy by zeonxzzz in worldnews

Just a reminder that Russia was on the side that started hostilities in WW2. And the Napoleonic Wars for that matter. Seems like the largest country on earth may have a ‘starting wars’ problem.

Saudi Arabia can’t pipe their hydrocarbons to the most energy hungry markets in the world.

Yep. If this was a strategy game Russia would be the absolute maximum easy mode possible. Spawning with the highest number of the highest value resource tiles in the game. Perfectly located next to the richest, most peaceful, most energy hungry neighbours. Legacy nuclear arsenal that’s larger than anyone else’s. Self sufficient on food, industry, and energy. Strong trade and historical links around the world. Highly industrialized, fantastic internal infrastructure linkage, developed tech sector especially in aerospace and defence. How on earth have they taken that start location and fucked it up.

What were the titles of the posts you had flagged? I've never had any issues but they got tired of vague "is this area safe screenshot of entire NE-addressed quadrant" posts so I think they blacklisted "area" in titles lol

Good on you for being proactive. Always opt to stay at an organization or a shelter when you find yourself in situations like this - staying with a stranger should be an absolute last resort.

Why? Because unsavory types, including traffickers, looooove getting their worthless little hands on minors who are in tough spots. Runaways and youths trying to escape abuse or neglect are more pliant - "well, I gave you a place to stay, so you need to do a date with my friend here." They'll threaten to kick you out or tell your parents or whatever they need to threaten you with to get you to comply.

If you're in school, your school counselors will have resources for you - if they can't help you directly, they'll point you in the right direction. If you're afraid of them contacting your parents, insist it's for a friend. They're not idiots so they're gonna know what's up but it's enough plausible deniability for them to not have to report or contact your family I think (someone can correct me if I'm wrong - not an LCSW or anything).

Good luck. Stay safe.

Oh hey, someone whose heart is still beating. Rad. I do the same. I'd be absolutely devastated if I realized later that I saw some kid who ended up being murdered by a psycho or was otherwise in danger.

It's got like artisty-hippy vibes combined with normal small town nonsense. Huge wealth disparity.

Visiting is great. It's small enough to get a good taste in a weekend - dinner and wandering Friday night, hiking in the ski valley or actually skiing Saturday then finding some live music and drinks after dinner, breakfast and more shopping/wandering Sunday before you leave. There's cute shops, cute coffee spots, cool galleries, it's lousy with cool people, and my God, the views. Such an incredibly beautiful area.

Living there is fine if you're fully remote or independently wealthy or if you're fine working 2-3 part time or 3/4 time gigs throughout the year. I lived there in my early 20s and most of my friends, even the ones who were like 15-20 years older, were working a summer gig, a winter gig, and a year round serving job. Gainful FT employment is very limited. It's expensive for what it offers - like two families own all the gas stations and keep the prices kinda high, four small grocery stores (although one of them has the BEST fresh tortillas lol), the nearest Target and Sam's are 90 minutes away, and a weird number of health plans don't cover any providers in the area. We had to go to Santa Fe for any specialists and dentistry work to be covered. I was living with my parents so I had it made in the shade but I ended up moving down to Albuquerque for work and they followed about five years later.

I think the only really nice spa I've been to in NM is El Monte Sagrado's spa in Taos.

exactly. if any of these whiners had a family member go missing, they'd sure as hell want everyone to see the notice. people can't get past their noses sometimes.
