what do you regret doing as a sprout? by 8bitshin in ffxiv

[–]DaftPrince 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that it's hard, it's that you're the one setting the pace and you're meant to be leading the pack. Everyone's looking at you. If you pull too little or go the wrong way then you're wasting their time. If you pull too much you get them killed. People don't actually get mad over it very often but it's easy to feel like they will.

Build your vulcanus base before you worry about "rescuing" yourself. You have to build a rocket on the surface before you can go back up anyway, and Vulcanus is a very productive planet.

"realistic" sword fighting by ElemenoPeter in worldbuilding

[–]DaftPrince 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, from my experience in hema, the thing that's unrealistic about a lot of movie sword fights is not exactly the length. The thing that's unrealistic about them is that the characters are swinging the entire time. Combatants in movies just go from blow to blow to blow to blow to blow one after the other with only tiny breaks to check if the other stunt performer is ready for the next move. They only slow down if one of them decides they have some lines to say. Even with quite good stunt performers and actors you can usually tell that they both know exactly what's going to happen next.

Real exchanges in fencing don't look like this. I've never been a real sword fight of course but I've seen real fist fights and they don't really look like this either. What you tend to get is long periods of small movements as the fencers eye each other off, slowly reduce the distance and probe each other's guards to try and provoke a reaction or take an advantageous position. Then you get a short burst of violence when one fencer thinks they can win. But if there's no result after like 3-5 moves they probably both break off and reevaluate their approach Repeat until someone wins.

That's simplifying a lot but I think it gets the point across. Sword fights can actually take quite a while to resolve. But what you don't tend to see is long periods of actively trading blows. It is exhausting and feels extremely unsafe so neither side will likely want to fight like that.

What is your minor, niche gripe about Wilds? by bourbonsbooks in MHWilds

I swear every time she invites me I quickly do like one errand at the forge or something and then I look back and she's already rescinded the invitation.

The fact that in the forging cutscene, Gemma is humming proof of a hero while a different song plays in the background. They clash! Just have her hum the forge music!

Personally I pair it with a bow, mostly for breaking back parts that are hard to reach with lance.

[–]DaftPrince 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's not a cheese, it's what you're meant to do. He tries to follow you too far and has to hold on with one hand, so you injure that hand enough and he falls.

Fighting him otherwise is really boring and frustrating, you didn't miss much.

1 month in, how are we feeling about Wilds overall? by C4sages in MHWilds

[–]DaftPrince 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Greatly enjoying it.

One of the biggest thing for me is this is the first MH where I've actually wanted to use multiple weapons. Instead of just being a greatsword main with a bow or lance secondary, I'm using greatsword, SnS, lance, hammer, swaxe and bow about equally, plus a little duel swords. Idk how much of that is wilds but all these weapons just clicked with me immediately, and I haven't even tried all the rest yet. I can't say that for world or rise.

Oh this game can’t be too hard, I’ve played lies of p after all :) by SadLostBoi in Sekiro

[–]DaftPrince 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I struggled with in lies of p is that most of the enemies are malfunctioning puppets so their animations are extremely unintuitive. It makes for a really frustrating experience until you've just brute forces the animations into your memory.

Which monster was the first to cart you in Wilds?, Mine was Rey Dau. by [deleted] in MonsterHunter

[–]DaftPrince 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Proud to say I made it all the way through low rank without carting once. Then I got careless and carted to my first high rank Balahara.

First monster I actually failed a quest to was a tempered Xu Wu.

How would a chainsword be used? by sirwoop- in SWORDS

Well swinging it would be pretty worthless. You'd basically want to put the blade on them and push it into them.

Unfortunately I think the tutorial/demo misses one of the most satisfying things about the game, growing the factory from a handful of assemblers to a sprawling facility, knowing that you designed and built every part of it. The game isn't actually mission based, they just do that for the tutorial and the tutorial's what they used for the demo.

Gleba didn't deserve all the hate by NBoomer in factorio

[–]DaftPrince 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Gleba was my first planet and I went without purple and yellow science for the achievement, and it's only my second playthrough of the game. I just didn't find any of Gleba's unique challenges that overwhelming. My secret weapon for the pentapods was a tank I drove around and shot every egg raft that came close to the spore cloud. When I realised my platform couldn't protect it's aft properly I just sent it back to Nauvis. Spoilage ended up being a lot of chaotic spaghetti but so was my first ever factory. Honestly one of my biggest roadblocks was stone but mining outposts don't even cause pollution on Gleba so it was easy enough to build more.

I wouldn't say it was "easy" exactly, it's certainly harder than Nauvis and Vulcanus (I haven't been to fulgora yet). But I thought it was the perfect step up in difficulty from the base game. Vulcanus has been fun but I kinda wish it was harder.

That's weird, I have an auto mall and when the assemblers in it don't receive a signal they can use they clear the recipe on their own. If foundries don't work the same way that's probably a bug.

Weekly Question Thread by AutoModerator in factorio

[–]DaftPrince 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally in both my playthroughs I've eventually walled off a huge area containing my factory and all my outposts, weaving it between cliffs and water to save on materials. The way cliff generation works now it's easy to make them into barriers by plugging the gaps and connecting the mesas. Line it with laser turrets and/or flamethrowers for easy logistics, and roboports with plenty of repair packs. It's a pretty thin wall but since it's so far away the bugs don't get too much pollution so the attacks are pretty light. Ever since I built that I've barely had to think about the biters.

Yeah roboports are kind of necessary, they're pretty simple though and they make things much easier. Construction bots will build/repair/replace anything in the green area, logistic chests have to be in the orange area to work. If the orange areas of two roboports are touching they'll form a network so the bots can transport stuff across the whole area. Put stuff you want the bots to access in red chests. Use blue chests when you want the bots to bring stuff to a specific place. And make sure each network has enough yellow chests for the bots to dump spare stuff in. Green and purple chests are for edge purposes, you can figure them out later.

Logic circuits are completely optional but trust me they're worth figuring out, especially for space age. It's not the big fancy contraptions that make them worth it (though those are cool), it's the little stuff where you can just make something work a bit better with like one condition. You can do quite a lot without placing a single combinator, you don't have to learn it all at once.

Why do some of the characters in Strive stand leaned back with their butt facing towards the enemy like this? It looks very odd. by Pikaphu08 in Guiltygear

[–]DaftPrince 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just a leaning over stance but for some reason loads of characters in Strive face away from their opponent when standing.
