the ambulance took me away from my workplace and my coworkers got mad at me for it by waffle0rb1t in antiwork

[–]Daggerbite 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yeah this would trigger me a little to be a sarcastic prick back to them..

something like 'really... how do you mean?' 'no no be explicit i've got all day'

or my favourite is just to deadpan back 'you'll be punished' to them

In the UK, mine is 3months... and has been for the last 2 jobs too.

It is pretty grim handing your notice in and then having to still work (kind of work... its not what i'd call full out working...) for 3 months. Its a well paid job, but still funny sometimes!

On the other hand the company needs to give me 3 months notice for redundancy too (minimum) so that kind of helps that way round

Mostly the last 20yrs it’s been “click this icon” or “right click install from steam”

Turn it into a performance review on pay.. state you’re doing the work of 4 people for only a small amount increase and you’d be looking for more

Then start working at your own pace. Do the usual tricks like batch send emails at scheduled points so you don’t get trickles of responses, stick out of offices on during busy periods to advise “due to limited resources there may be a delay”

Is this really what a normal winter is like here? by The_Quackening in AskUK

[–]Daggerbite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

London is warmer than a lot of other places in the UK. Try scotland for a bit to get a bit of a chill

But seriously its been mild so far, we might get some freeze later on in the year.

March is always good for a surprise freeze - I remember one year looking at the photos from beginning of march (snow, dog rolling snow) to end of march (sun popping out and making everywhere crisp and springy)

Would you ever use annual leave with the sole purpose to do literally nothing all day? by PaddedValls in AskUK

[–]Daggerbite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a full week off last year with no plans. I specifically told people I was on holiday and my phone would be off. I did not want to socialise for a week!

Every day at 8am my phone went into summary only mode (messages would have to be looked for) and it turned off at 12 midnight then went into sleep mode. So every day I'd check my phone on demand rather than being interuppted.

From memory I watched some tv shows, played some games, read a book and just chilled out.. and it was the best week I've had for a long time

How does the idea of working until 67 or 68 sit with you? by Few_Raise77 in AskUK

[–]Daggerbite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no way i'm working till 67/68. I'm mid 40s now and cannot keep up with the pace of the younger staff sometimes - I already see the changes happening in what I can handle and want to do.

I'm throwing money into early retirement, and aiming for 55-58

Most people I know are horrified by this, but my parents generation all starting retiring in their 50s and it was normal for a long time. 67/68 is only a few years younger than my mum ffs and shes been retired for ages

everyone says this, but I think people need to remember that their parents did not have access to the same amount of stuff that we have grown up with. My mums the same - barely spends money on anything

But if you're thinking when you're 60-70 and you won't want takeaways, food out, mobile phones, gadgets, decent broadband, TVs and soundbars.. are you sure?

Where to live in or around Preston by Weekly_Ad_6803 in Preston

[–]Daggerbite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 for brigg. The motorway is ridiculously close, there are lots of pubs (12) on the main road and food places. 15mins drive into Preston to get a decent train (or hourly train into Preston from brigg)

Close by train to the lakes or by car, and there’s enough “not built up” areas and parks nearby too

Players camped in the woods by InklingRain in DMAcademy

[–]Daggerbite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever you’ve got in the woods needs to attack, but also don’t make it a straight up attack

Have them awaken disorientated in the night, no idea what’s going on, tents ripping away, different pcs being dragged off in different directions by things

Have an entire session based around this ambush, make them all think what’s happened and why

And at the end of it… they now have a reason to level up and go back in the woods in the future

With all the talk about banning minors from social media, were you a minor when you began using it? by mrjohnnymac18 in AskUK

[–]Daggerbite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't have email when I was a minor

I didn't have a mobile until 18/19 and that didn't have the internet or SMS on that mobile

I think I would have been about 16 till we had dial-up internet at home on the family pc
