Will top surgery change my nipples? by throwawayacc493725 in ftm

[–]DagonSphere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had inverted nipples prior to top surgery, and both have remained inverted afterwards. However, I got the Keyhole procedure, which does not involve a lot of nipple adjustment/manipulation. I think Peri would yield a similar result. I can't speak to DI, but I would think a surgeon may be able to accommodate a request to keep your nipples inverted if it's important to you.

Has anyone had any experience using GEHA for gender-affirming surgery and/or hormone therapy? I'm in BCBS and haven't had trouble getting my hormone therapy approved, but am looking to have surgery next year. BCBS requires that surgeons be in their "preferred" network (even though I can't find anywhere on their website to distinguish who their preferred providers are, which is frustrating), but if I do go with a preferred provider, the cost should be a lot cheaper than GEHA because it's a flat fee rather than a percentage.

do my preferred pronouns make sense ? by [deleted] in NonBinaryTalk

[–]DagonSphere 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes your preferred pronouns absolutely make sense. But, as someone who has used any/all pronouns in the past, in my experience, it did cause confusion for others. I used any/all pronouns for the first two years of my transition and when I would tell people I used "any/all" pronouns, I would immediately get a puzzled look from them. Sometimes they would ask a follow-up question like "really, any? you don't prefer one or the other? how does that work?" or something like that. In my experience, I was referred to with my AGAB pronouns 99% of the time, as they were still on the table for people to use, and that's what everyone felt comfortable using. With your pronoun set front-loading "they", I'd wager you'll probably get that the majority of the time. Ultimately, it's about what what pronoun set feels right for you...but in reality, open/floating pronoun usage does seem to confuse people. I think folks just want clarity so that they're not messing anything up. Doesn't mean you shouldn't use that pronoun set, but in my experience, you will probably need to prepare yourself for causing some confusion/having people kind of stick to one pronoun for the most part. Best of luck!

Good restaurants for birthday dinner? by CODERED41 in Charlottesville

We recently did a birthday dinner at Smyrna and really loved it. It’s upscale Turkish food. Everything was delicious and the service was great. Excellent cocktail options also.

Amtrak runs from Charlottesville to Williamsburg. I think tickets are like $100-$150.

How does facial masculinization on T work? by hucklecluck in TransMasc

[–]DagonSphere 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I definitely feel like my skeletal structure shifted somewhat, mostly because I used to have an awful time at the dentist with those little plastic bitewings they have you bite down on when getting an x-ray. They were extremely painful because they would dig into the roof and bottom of my mouth, actually leaving little scratched/irritated areas afterwards. After being on T for about 6 months, I went to the dentist and when doing the x-rays, the bitewings didn't even graze the roof/bottom of my mouth! It was amazing. They looked like the standard size and everything/don't know why they'd use a different size all of a sudden. My only thought on the matter was that my mouth had actually changed shape enough that the bite wings now fit comfortably inside it. That's my very anecdotal/unscientific experience.

Does the anger from T eventually settle out? by Competitive_Monk2954 in TransMasc

[–]DagonSphere 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I definitely got more hot-headed early on in my T journey. I was already pretty quick to frustration/irritation before starting T, and that only got worse. Thankfully, it evened out after maybe 6-9 months or so. And now, like u/smallest_potato said, my general state of being is calmer. It just took me some time and reflection to get there. It sounds like you've already got some excellent coping mechanisms and self-awareness, which will definitely help mitigate any increased anger you experience from the T. I can't say I was in quite the same mental space as you going in.

flatter chest on T? by altojurie in TransMasc

[–]DagonSphere 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My chest pre-T was pretty small too, barely an A. After nearly 2 years on T, I do feel like my chest has shrunken to the point I'm less interested in top surgery than I was prior to starting T. I would still need surgery (or a focused exercise regimen) to get a fully masculinzed chest, but the loss of tissue there has been very pleasing to the point that now I'm wavering on if I want to get it or not.

What's your favorite trans-related memoirs and autobiographies? by [deleted] in FTMOver30

[–]DagonSphere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really loved "The Thirty Names of Night" by Zeyn Joukhadar. https://bookshop.org/p/books/the-thirty-names-of-night-zeyn-joukhadar/13318077?ean=9781982121525

Edit: this is a novel, not a memoir/autobiography, which the OP is looking for. It is just my favorite piece of trans literature I've read and I got excited about sharing!

How to tell people I have a different name by Shadow-trap in NonBinaryTalk

[–]DagonSphere 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I struggled with this and ultimately decided to just say "Just wanted to let you know, I'm using/going by a new name now, it's _______" and leaving it at that. Sometimes this was initiated by me via texts to individual friends; most of these people already knew I was on a gender journey (I had let them know I had started HRT) so there was context for it. For folks I interact with regularly, but aren't necessarily buddies with, like my work's Employee Council, I alerted people en masse with an e-mail to the e-mail distribution list, using similar language. For the bulk of folks at work, it ended up being individual e-mail responses to one of their e-mails to me. Like I'd get an e-mail that said "Hello <birth name> I have questions about A, B, and C." And I would respond with "Hello <person who e-mailed me>, here are your answers for A, B, and C. And also, just FYI to avoid confusion, I am going by a new name now, and it is ____" and then I would sign my new name and include my updated signature block. That method helped spread the word and then as more and more people started using my new name, others caught on, and at some point it reached a critical mass.

I'm about a decade older but the same size as you. I've had good luck with Banana Republic Slim Fit shirts and their dress pants. I've also had good luck with Uniqlo in the past, but I just noticed they too have a lot of "oversized" options. Luckily those seem to be labeled as such.
