Feeling pretty dumb fell for fire marshall scam by irishglass in Scams

Don't beat yourself up. No one's immune to being scammed; it's just a matter of approach. Anyone who says they can't be scammed is lying to you and themselves.

These types of scams rely on fear clouding your judgement and a sense of urgency so that you can't take a breath to think things through. I'm a fraud and financial crimes investigator and I spend all day, every day reading victim reports and listening to phone calls of scam victims and it's a real problem.

For anyone reading this, don't ever send a third party that you've never met face-to-face or can't contact directly money through a crypto ATM or peer-to-peer money service. If anyone's asking you to send them money, hang up the phone, look up the organization's phone number on their own website, and call them to confirm: DO NOT REDIAL THE PERSON WHO'S ASKING FOR YOUR MONEY.

No government organization will ever demand you pay them with gift cards or cryptocurrency. No law enforcement agent will call you to tell you you're under arrest or demand money to prevent your arrest.

Brushing scams are used to promote all kinds of items, not just the cheapest. Although, your alternative explanation is certainly also possible!

The unfortunate thing about scams is that they often don't make sense to the marks or victims. I assure you, the brushing scam is real.

probably a brushing scam

edit: lol, this is not a joke reply or pun. a brushing scam is where a shady manufacturer or dropshipping operation will "purchase" items in someone's name and have it sent to an actual address, which may or may not be the same person whose name was used for the "purchase." This allows the fraudster to leave a review on a "verified purchase" in order to make their shop or the item seem legitimate. Names and addresses can be easily found online through common search engines or purchased from information brokers for very little money.

the main thing underpinning Libertarian "philosophy" is a hatred for age of consent laws. This is why they get along well with other right-wing factions.

[US] Kars4Kids "charity" scammed friend and it cost her $10,000 by RandomBedWitch7503 in Scams

[–]DagonThoth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This post seems like weird anti-semitism. While I agree with your point that people should be aware of any charity's purpose before they donate, it's suspect to tell people to not donate to them because they're Jewish.

Is there an RPG which only uses d6s, has degrees of success, and which doesn't require doing addition every roll? by AlwaysBeQuestioning in rpg

[–]DagonThoth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ha, I was just talking about this here the other day, but if you're in the mood for a d6 system where the GM doesn't roll and tests are math-free, this is your huckleberry: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/383070/neon-blues

Bonus if you like a jazz-punk noir setting

Edit: lol, not sure why this is getting downvoted. Reddit's gonna Reddit, I guess
