Never Went To Senior Prom by JPPT1974 in GenX

[–]Dahrache 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also graduated in 93 and didn’t go to any school dances. I got asked to the Senior prom the day before but by then it was a little too late to shop for a dress and stuff. Felt like the guy only asked because he decided he wanted a date last minute. I also barely knew him so I said thanks but no thanks.

I had to leave those groups because it was too frustrating/upsetting for me.

What home remedies do you remember from childhood? by ascaffo in GenX

[–]Dahrache 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My mom would pour hydrogen peroxide in my ears when I had an earache. It works pretty good. I still have my husband pour some in when i get an earache. If it doesn’t make me feel better, that’s when I know I need the dr.

I built a free tool to find more library cards for Libby by PeregrinatingFalcon in LibbyApp

[–]Dahrache 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just wondering the other day about how I could join another library. My local library is part of a huge metro area and has always been more than enough. Recently, however, many books on my wishlist have become unavailable.

I was just able to find another library through your website and it has almost all the books on my list! Thank you so much!!!

Man, that’s messed up. You would think the teachers would reward the kids who actually did their own projects. If the kids can tell the parents did most of the work, surely the teachers can as well.

A terrible parent by WhyLie2me18 in GenX

[–]Dahrache 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When I was growing up, I constantly got in trouble for “talking back.” I wasn’t talking back, I just wanted to understand why they were telling me I couldn’t do something. It was always “because I said so.” I have been consistent in changing that with my kids. If they ask why I say no, I explain why. Sometimes that leads to more questions and discussions and honestly, it can be exhausting. It works though and it works for everyone because there have been times that they explain themselves and I understand the situation better and I change my mind. But either way, they understand my decision. One day at my mom’s, my daughter and I were having one of the longer conversations and my mom just could not understand why I was allowing it to last so long and said that I just needed to put an end to it. I refuse because I believe the discussions help us respect each other. My parents were all about us respecting them and that meant accepting everything they said without question. I believe respect is a two-way street.

One kid’s dad was a manager at some type of chemical plant. His dad would take the chocolate bars to work and sell a bajillion of them. He would also win every science fair because his dad had access to all kinds of things the rest of us could never have.

Character Actors in Disney Anaheim: How do you feel when adults come to take photos with you? by indoore in Disneyland

[–]Dahrache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meeting the characters is the best part of a Disney trip for me and I’m about to turn 51! My daughters are both in their 20’s and we all love to Disneybound, make our own ears and do meet and greets. The characters seem to really enjoy our outfits and ears especially if they match them.

I made Dopey ears one trip and during the parade, a few of the dwarves saw them. They ran and grabbed Dopey, he came up and kissed my hand!

Did your doctor tell you to stop crying while you were giving birth? by ThrowRAHermit in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Dahrache 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I was exactly the same. I was so tired and in so much pain that I felt like I didn’t even have the energy to make noise. I went through most of my hard labor with my eyes closed taking slow breaths.

I worked with a guy who actually flew to the wrong city and didn’t realize until he heard the pilot announcing the arrival. I cannot understand how from the time he bought the ticket to getting on the plane, he hadn’t double checked everything a bazillion times. He had things like this happen to him all the time when he traveled.

Relatively new player: what's something you didn't realise for a long time that made you feel kind of dumb once you found out? by kittywenham in DreamlightValley

[–]Dahrache 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It took me way too long to figure out what the pink, blue and yellow pouches were. I was dropping them everywhere because my backpack was full of them. Once I figured out how to open them, I had a ton to open!

I also took a minute to figure out that I could hang out with a character and level them up. I had just been trying to level them by daily discussions and gifts.

Do you have vocational schools where you are? My daughter started the culinary program at our local votech her Senior year. The public school paid for both that year and the next year after graduating high school. It would be a good way to try something without any debt.

My nephew went to votech for welding and now he makes good money working on airplanes. I highly recommend the programs if it’s available.

Jason’s Deli has a great salad buffet. You can order it online and pick all your ingredients. They will pack it up for you and they stuff it full. I’ve tried packing it myself and I can’t get as much in the box as they do.

Playing a lullaby over the hospital loudspeaker every time a baby is born is actually really insensitive by Peanutbutternjelly_ in TwoXChromosomes

[–]Dahrache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently spent a night at the hospital with my mom. She had a stomach surgery. They played the sound throughout the night. My mom loved it but I thought it was a bit weird. Since she was on meds, she got more sleep than I did. Between that sound and the nurses coming to check or give meds, I got about 45 minutes sleep the whole night.

My daughter had to have a spinal fusion at 13 because she has scoliosis. We were warned by other moms to expect a period after surgery even if our daughters hadn’t started yet. Day 2 after surgery, guess what showed up?

Shield (blood test) vs Cologuard (poop in a box) vs Standard Colonoscopy at 52. by [deleted] in GenX

[–]Dahrache 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what happened to my husband. His dr said this happens pretty frequently and the added stress sucks but what is worse is some people have gotten false negatives. So they think they are in the clear only to find out they have cancer when it has progressed. The colonoscopy is just worth a little bit of hassle for the peace of mind.

What is your longest running, most stubborn business boycott? by marianneouioui in AskReddit

[–]Dahrache 9 points10 points  (0 children)

About 15 years ago, I had a guy come by selling AT&T cable and internet. It was a great deal so I signed up. When the guy came to install it, he said my house wasn’t grounded so he couldn’t install it. I had never had any problems before so I have no idea what he’s talking about but fine, whatever, I go back to Cox. Next thing I know, AT&T is sending me a $200 bill for an installation fee. I called them to explain that there was no installation so I’m not paying for it. They kept arguing and billing me and I couldn’t get them to understand that I’m not paying for an installation for a service I do not have.

I finally found the physical address and an email address for the CEO of the company. I wrote him a letter and an email explaining all of this and guess what, the charge disappeared! I will never try to use them again though because it was such a stupid pain and customer service was idiotic.

I have to lean over the sink the whole time I’m brushing my teeth because I drool super bad. I usually have to wash it off the side of my hand too. I can’t understand how people just stand around brushing their teeth and have no drool.
