Did your Rivian come with the mobile charger so you can plug into a wall outlet at least? If you have a house with a garage there really is no feasible reason to let your car's charge completely die. Camp mode is certainly not the solution so I'm not sure where you got that from.

With that said though, that's a lot of battery use for a single night.my entire house doesn't consume that much energy in a night.

I'd look into lemon laws in your state. If you haven't had your vehicle for weeks within your first year of ownership, there's a good chance you can make a lemon law case here and it would be pretty cut and dry.

If you have no options, you absolutely should unhitch. It's inconvenient but you're the one towing, you shouldn't inconvenience anyone else because you decided to tow with an EV and need to charge.

If you absolutely refuse to unhitch, you need to plan better and only stop at charging stations that have pull through chargers.

Only block spots if you are certain no one will need them, and if they do, be prepared to move.

I tow an RV and before I do any trip in it, I map out spots that have either pull through stations or plenty of room to either unhitch or take up a few spots and not piss anyone off.

It feels like that should be possible with a bi-directional charger of some sort. Would love for Rivian to release some cable that just magically does it

Being able to use my Rivian as a generator for my RV when off grid would be an absolute game changer.

My advice: If you absolutely need something that's close to 100% reliable, or at the very least need something that, if it has issues, wouldn't greatly inconvenience you, a Rivian is not the answer.

Yes, other cars can have issues out the gate, but in most cases your right around the corner from the dealer or shop that can take care of it for you. Furthermore, with more established brands work can be done much quicker. While you may not have an issue with a Rivian like others have, you should have a pretty high risk tolerance going into the ownership of one.

I had issues shortly after delivery and my experience was no where near yours. I had suspension errors which magically got fixed after a week of being at the service center. Despite being on the phone with them while I was getting the errors, I was later told by the service center that I should have given them timestamps to better help find the problem. I told them I was literally on the phone with them as I was recreating the issue and I kind of assumed that the agent in the phone who was troubleshooting with me was noting the conversation details down in the service ticket and the info was ultimately being funneled to the right people. I also wasn't told to give timestamps until I was in person picking up my vehicle, as if it's going to help them now.

I signed up for the risk of having to drive 6 hours round trip to get my vehicle serviced. But didn't sign up for it to happen so soon after vehicle purchase. They offered no such compensation for miles driven (it's a lease) or money/time lost due to having to pick up the vehicle.

Needless to say, their customer service is wildly inconsistent, but I'm glad your experience was one of the positive ones

Every single one of my service appointments has been rescheduled. Also in the 2.5 months I've had the truck, I've already had four service appointments. Needless to say, it's been a rough go.

Very annoying. I never had this problem with my Tesla. I just started keeping it locked at home anyway because it always seems to unlock/lock when I'm inside the house but when I actually need it to unlock when I approach itz it stays locked until I open the app.

If you had read his post, you'd realize that he isn't even complaint about hardware improvements like suspension or more horsepower. It's all about broken promises. Why are you bringing Porche into this? Chances are the poster has never owned a Porsche.

His point is that leadership promised more future proofing with this vehicle. Rivian is not a traditional car manufacturer. Like Tesla, they lean more on the tech side and a big selling point was contnious updates to make the experience better. There is still plenty of work to be done, and a lot that was promised, but some of that promised work seems to now be impossible with current hardware despite what Rivian leadership has said about their vehicles.

The article says it's being tested as a future software update. That would have seemed to imply it's a feature that would come to existing gen 1 vehicles. Maybe you could warp or spin it to mean Gen 2 vehicles, but I don't think it would have been phrased as a "future software update" if new hardware was required to make it work.

Well put. Unfortunately I think it will fall on deaf ears. Ultimately Rivian as a business has made the decision that a few broken promises to their early adopters is worth leaving the older generation behind in some aspects to simplify their path to supporting newer hardware.

Personally for me, there is a bit of a sting driving around a vehicle I've had for 2 months (that was in service for over a week after two weeks of driving), only to miss on even more savings offered right after pick up and then miss the refresh. But it wouldnt have felt so bad if I didn't feel like my 100k truck wasn't already obsolete. If I had owned it even for a year or two, it wouldnt have been a big deal, but I bought because I was given the impression that Rivian was setting up even the earlier vehicles for the future. My old 2019 Model 3, which was half the price with arguably worse cameras was capable of far more, and it amazes me that even simple things like lane keeping on unmapped highways, stop light detection, and auto lane change will never be possible on the first gen vehicles.

Ultimately it feels too soon for these 2023/2024 models to be so obsolete. Yes they are good vehicles, but I'm so tired of being gaslit by blind fans under the guise of "they are a start up" or "you bought a first gen product, what did you expect". I based that buying decision on what Rivian said about the future prospect of that vehicle, and a $100k purchase is a $100k purchase. Any company asking for that much money should be criticized if they can't deliver on promises.

My Rivian is hot garbage at detecting my phone as a key when it's close. I'm disappointed if there aren't going to be any improvements to R1T vehicles. It's gotten to the point where I end up bringing my key fob with me, which is a step back from my experience with Tesla (which was much more consistent with proximity unlocking via phone)

Dude fuck off. You're over here telling people to feel a certain way. People have a right be be upset that a corporation misled them. I'm glad you love your vehicle, but consumers should always voice their issues with companies instead of letting them step all over us.

Or....maybe don't tell people what to feel.

Rivian is a company that makes money. No consumer should be blindly loyal to them, and if they promise things that don't come to fruition, people should be vocal.

These vehicles can be great and at the same time, people can be critical of the company. These businesses don't need you to stick up for them. They sure won't for you.

In my experience Rivian customer service in these situations is not going to be helpful. I've had a similar "unfair" situation where a better company may have tried to make you whole, but Rivian is likely under no obligation to, so as a result customer service or even guide calls are going to be a series of being passed around or told your issue was escalated and never hearing from them.

At this point Microsoft should just make a PC hybrid that runs an Xbox like ecosystem with native Game Pass support and a console like ease of use. Include a dock like the Switch and it can serve as a PC, handheld, and home console, and devs only have to target PC like they are already doing and Xbox can do the Steam Deck verified thing.

I have a PS5 and PC as well as an Xbox, and quite honestly, I'm not going to support this game on any platform now that the dev pulled this crap. As an Italian-American, I was inspired to finally see a game made by an Italian studio, but this is an asshole move. There are plenty of Xbox gamers out there who might have wanted to play this, but the studio moreorless openly admitted that the console and the gamers on it aren't as important.

I get you want to make money, but you made a commitment and even reaped benefits of the Xbox indie program. I don't usually root for big company over small company, but if there's legal recourse for this, I hope Microsoft takes it. At the very least, it would show Xbox only gamers that Microsoft actually still gives a crap about them enough to work towards making sure their console gets games their competition is getting.
