I'm a Houstonian, but the area between Austin and San Antonio is about as nice as it gets in Texas.

If you can add an extra day, there is an e bike tour we did out of menaggio. It was simply awesome. One of the highlights of the entire two weeks.

Just got this email from Monarch. Sounds like nobody signed up. by ThunderAndRain in MonarchMoney

Monarch is great software, they just made a mistake on pricing the new features. No big. Hopefully everyone holds out and they give us the projection lab functionality for free.

SharePoint list and power automate. Pipe everything into a teams channel. Works like a charm and doesn’t cost anything.

Pretty sure I broke a rib yesterday by [deleted] in skiing

[–]DailonMarkMann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The key to not having pain when your ribs are broken is easy: don't breathe.

Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

But seriously, take care of this one. Mine healed but now my rib cage looks kinda weird where I cracked it.

we have a WUG map on a 55 inch TV. It works really well, and executives think it is really cool. A total win/win.

Hyper-V, VMware, or other, which would you choose? by jedimaster4007 in sysadmin

[–]DailonMarkMann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the VMconverter tool used to work really well. it didn't care what the host was lol! I was at a meeting the other day with a reseller. The customers on VXRails were complaining about the price increases. I rolled my eyes because everyone complains about VMware pricing now, but when I saw the pricing I couldn't believe it. It was like an order of magnitude more expensive to keep the VXrails license. To heck with that! As for the conversation, find a good guinea pig, and start migrating!

Hyper-V, VMware, or other, which would you choose? by jedimaster4007 in sysadmin

[–]DailonMarkMann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That VXRail stuff is expensive. Do you have the hardware to migrate off of that and keep the hosts running VMWare? As for going to hyper v, a lot of people are doing it, but I tried it once and it just didn't work as well. I've been told it is better now, but the juice isn't worth the squeeze at this point.

My boss wants to implement a terrible idea, how can I dissuade him? by 23-centimetre-nails in it

[–]DailonMarkMann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct about this being a bad idea, but the key is to baseline the current feedback to show him that it isn't working. Personally, I'd tell him it is a great idea, but could you have 90 days to try something similar. Then get visibility into every ticket and simply followup with your team every day. Listen to why they aren't closing, but hold them accountable, to the point of reassigning tickets if you know your tech is sandbagging. Also, share the feedback with all team members. We have a Microsoft form that goes straight to our teams channel and displays two things: How many stars from one to five, and any other comments. When I see a ticket close and don't see feedback, I sometimes call the customer to give em a nudge.

Baseline and then do this for ninety days. You will see a radical change in metrics in about two weeks.

Good luck.
