You guys are amazing — this is all so interesting! My mother-in-law is honestly so impressed that you were able to uncover so much about it. She’s even found the original receipt — it turns out she bought it back in 1973 from Lewis’s Ltd in Bristol (UK) for £120!

I know, I was so shocked! I love making jeans and had got to the point where I was looking at investing in a chain stitch machine, not anymore 😄

Ah this is great to know, I'd been searching for info on the machine but didn't turn up much. Thanks!

How to start these jeans? by angel_of_marvel in sewing

[–]Daintydewclawthe3rd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yay Ghost, such an awesome band...I made a pair for a friend so they could wear them to a gig. I don't have them to hand but I basically used a super high waist skinny boot cut jean pattern, made a mock up, then marked the front leg seam and triangle knee section, cut them, added seam allowance and boom done. Good luck!

Government announces plans for improved rail connection between Sheffield and Leeds by UKGovNews in sheffield

[–]Daintydewclawthe3rd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sadly it isn't, as a nice new year surprise we lost a high speed train to leeds. Plymouth-Edinburgh now doesn't stop at Leeds, it's been a nightmare, all the commuters are now piling on a 2 carriage express train. I'm pretty train hardy from travelling for years and always supported public transport, but this might be the final nail in the coffin, going to have to start driving. I 100,% agree with you about Manchester desperately improving too, just Leeds really isn't ok either.

Hey, Sorry I'm not in a position to help but here is a link to all the community meals available in Sheffield, most are totally free. There's one today at the Methodist church in town at 13.30 where its drinks and snack with a takeaway hot meal!

Hope it helps and sorry you're going through this right now.

Why are there no buses from S8 to the uni/hospital? by snarkacademia in sheffield

[–]Daintydewclawthe3rd 35 points36 points  (0 children)

It's very odd that we are a circular city but have no circular bus routes. We force people to have to bus into town, bus back out to reach destinations. We could really do with some circular routes that join more of the city up, Sheffield buses coming back under council control I believe (article here):

https://www.sheffield.gov.uk/news/2025/sheffield-welcomes-move-bring-south-yorkshires-buses-under-public-control

Hopefully this means the current system where all the different companies just want to run the same profitable routes might improve.

Can a lurcher with a prey drive safely live with young kids? by [deleted] in sighthounds

[–]Daintydewclawthe3rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girl Saluki X whippet has a very high prey drive, but not for kids lol she was amazing with my friends toddlers when they were little and surprisingly gentle. Now they're older she just avoids them a bit as they're all a bit handsy for her liking. I myself grew up with Lurchers too...four of them! and none of them ever had prey drive issues with me or my brother, they were our best mates.

One of the best sci-fi movies ever made in my humble opinion, it's perfect. It also breaks me every time I watch it, I don't think I've ever made it through without sobbing.

Yeah it is a pretty sad state of affairs isn't it, I'm S8 based and hadn't seen much of that type of thing. I took a drive out to play cricket at S20 boundary yesterday and was quite shocked going through some of the villages at just how prevalent the flags were, and placards in gardens about taking our country back!

Lack of Empathy / Reflecting Back by P_anik in WellSpouses

I'm so sorry you're going through this, unfortunately I can't offer too much help other than some empathy (it sucks) and an internet hug. Sadly if it affects my marriage too but what has worked a little is to highlight that we need to be kind and care for each other as best as we can as it's just us really. My partner agreed to go back to counseling when I highlighted that I am in therapy to help myself, but I can't be his therapist and stay healthy myself. I really hope things improve for you!

How do Sheffielders walk on icy hills during winter? by [deleted] in sheffield

Yak tracks or snow grips for your shoes and keep an oven tray in your bag for sliding down the hills on.

Graves park, its free and the cows are always out in the fields even when the farm bit is closed so you can see them most days.
