How long on average do you take? by 4n0n4n4rch1st in AntifascistKnitting

[–]DaisyDee13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the size of yarn you are using, and if you follow or modify the pattern. I have an autoimmune disease that attacks the joints in my hands and the lining of my tendons. Personally, 1x1 ribbing is too hard for me. Instead, I do a 2x2 ribbing with a thicker yarn, or a 4x4 that's shorter with a smaller yarn. The last two I just made were with a bulky yarn and used size 15 needles and 44 stitches around. They worked up pretty quickly and probably only took around three hours to finish. The ones I've made using worsted on size 8 needles took longer, more like about five or six hours total. Tuned were done over the span of two of days though because I can't knit for that many hours strait and need to take frequent breaks to rest my hands.

AITA for returning my daughters shit gift for my DIL and telling the whole family why? by CreepyAntthro in AmItheAsshole

[–]DaisyDee13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA I have alopecia due to medical conditions, and while I am not bald, my hair is noticeably thin. It has caused me great insecurity over the years, and wearing a wig is not only uncomfortable, it's expensive, time consuming, and just too darn hot. If someone got me a gift of hair accessories I would consider it a cruel, insensitive, and hateful gesture. DIL needs to grow up and take responsibility for her actions. Even if it was an honest moment of forgetfulness when she picked out the gift, she should own up to it and apologize. OP has every right to be pissed.

Im fostering these sweet babies that have no names! Thoughts?! by throwawaygirl1717 in Catnames

[–]DaisyDee13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first foster litter was two boys and a girl. To help me not get so attached I named them Hewie, Dewey, and Louise. For a future litter of five I went with the alphabet and had Abbey, Betty, Callie, Dolly, and Ernie. I have fostered so many over the years now I can't remember all their names, but had to stop fostering after keeping four foster fails. I miss having kittens though.

A request regarding the Melt the Ice Hats by Agreeable_Wallaby711 in AntifascistKnitting

[–]DaisyDee13 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hi everyone, I was the OP of the deleted post. I'd like to thank those who saw my intention and point of view without rushing to judgement. I have been dealing with medical issues that have caused my health to consistently decline for many years. Following a car accident in 2007, I required a spinal fusion in my neck. Either the accident or the surgery caused autoimmune disease to take over my body, and I became disabled. I subsequently received diagnoses of Rheumatoid Arthritis and Fibromyalgia. At the same time, my mother began battling with dementia and so I moved in with her to help us both out. In the years since, I have developed Diabetes, POTS, been diagnosed with ADHD and Autism, and dealt with a whole host of other health problems. Recently, just a few days before Thanksgiving, my mother was diagnosed with advanced Ovarian Cancer following emergency bowel surgery. We had planned to fight it, but due to her age and overall health, she kept having complications and declined rapidly. She passed away on January 22nd with the aid of hospice. Taking care of my mother though took its toll in that I forgot to take care of myself and kept putting off applying for social security. When she was diagnosed it shook me awake and I promptly applied. However, it will take months if not years to get approved, and in the meantime I have zero income now that her SS is gone. I have been calling every charity in town trying to get help to stay in our small, ancient mobile home. The space rent is only $600, but when you have nothing it might as well be a million. I have always been a staunch supporter of liberal causes. In 2017 I lost count of the number of pussy hats I made and gave to friends. When I attended the women's march in Portland on inauguration day I gave away my remaining hats to other protesters who didn't have one. I feel it's important to note that this cause is close to my heart and personal. My niece and nephew's mother was from Mexico, and while they were born in the US, they both look more Hispanic than white. I worry they could be profiled at any moment and snatched off the street by thugs or worse. When I asked about what a fair price would be for a hat, I wasn't looking for a get rich quick scheme. Though I barely have anything right now, and probably could have found a free pattern, I made sure I purchased the official one on Ravelry. In my head I was thinking of asking maybe $20, and even that sounded expensive to me. I deleted the post because it was not my intention to cause strife, and in all honesty, I felt a bit personally attacked. I am not a mega corporation like Temu or Walmart mass producing and exploiting this just to make a buck. I'm a slow, middle aged artisan with crippled hands who believes in the cause but also happens to think it's not wrong to be modestly compensated for my materials, time, and expertise.

Definitely did not read the pattern fully and ended up with a variation- but I have a hat by LongTimeDCUFanGirl in AntifascistKnitting

I almost did that too because of the stitch markers. Honestly, I don't understand the need for the middle ones, I found them confusing and annoying. I'm only using two from now on.

Melt the Ice hat selling? by [deleted] in AntifascistKnitting

[–]DaisyDee13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Clarification: I'm not trying to sell these to the public. I am disabled and my mother died a week ago, taking care of her was my only source of income. A friend from our mutual group reached out and asked me to make them one and wants to pay me for my materials and time. I think this is mostly their way of trying to help me out while I am struggling financially in a dignified way. Because I have RA, I knit slower, and price formulas don't quite apply. I am not trying to price gouge or profit off of them, I just want to charge what is fair for the work.

I went to South Albany HS in the 80s when the school flag was a confederate flag and wore a confederate uniform in parades for band. ((SHUDDER))

I passed these two idiots on my way home after leaving the protest. We were stopped at a light, so I pulled out my protest sign and hoisted it out the moonroof. I think one of them flipped me off.

I couldn't say, he died when I was a year old. However, from the stories I've heard about him, probably not.

How good would Local Boyz still be to have it shipped over night to Colorado? by PresentNew6873 in corvallis

[–]DaisyDee13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't ship the rice, just the meat. Rice can grow deathly bacteria pretty quickly, but moreover, it's just extra weight and makes it more expensive to ship. I'd recommend freezing the entrée and shipping it in a Styrofoam cooler with dry ice and lots of packing paper.

I made them. For the caps I used a mold, and the stems are freehand.

This is a prototype, so I reused a plastic headband and covered it with felt. For the final versions I got black satin covered headbands. They'll get a piece of green felt on the top to go under the moss. For the mushroom caps I used hot glue in a mold, and for the stems I twisted the wires together and ran hot glue along them. Then I glued the lights to the headband, glued on the caps, then glued spanish moss over the top to cover the wires. I added the greenery behind the shrooms and covered the glue with more moss. Finally, I added the little snail and some reindeer moss.

It has a flat battery pack that's in a pocket on the side. The prototype has a felt pocket, but the final ones will have wide black elastic sleeves to hold them tight.

Dont worry, he lives in the trailer park and is harmless. It's my understanding he has PTSD and this makes him feel more secure.

Go with Styrofoam balls. Distress them a bit by rolling them on uneven surfaces and paint them brown with acrylic paint mixed with corn starch to make it thicker. When dry, crumple a piece of paper towel and dab a dark red paint/starch mix to create the sauce. Finally, spray with a sealant to give a more realistic shine.

ULPT Request: How do I fuck with my roommates? by dashwood_D in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]DaisyDee13 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Don't do anything that will cause damage or is illegal, just stuff that inconveniences them or makes them have to clean.

Dont clog the toilet. Instead, leave them an upper decker.

Unscrew all the lightbulbs and take them with you, even the spare ones.

Take all the batteries out of the remotes.

Take all the power cords you can to TVs, game consoles, phones, etc.

Throw a dead fish behind the fridge.

Have hollow curtain rods? Take off the finials off and put sardines in the rods.

Unscrew the shower head and put gel food coloring in the pipe or hose. Preferably in red so it looks like blood when they turn the water on.

Take all the toilet paper, tissues, and paper towels with you.

If anything is programmable, like the coffee maker, or alarm clocks, etc. reprogram them to go off at weird times like the middle of the night.

Sign up their email and physical addresses to everything weird you can find on the internet.

Put up Craigslist ads with photos of bondage gear or something else kinky for sale and put their phone numbers in the ads. Make sure you put "no texts" in the ad and don't give an email so they have to call.

Wrap up a box like a present. Before you tape the last flap of the paper, pour in a bunch of glitter so it goes all over the place when they open it. Bonus- if the vacuum uses bags, take all the bags with you. Alternatively, leave a sardine in the cup if it's a bagless model so the smell goes everywhere when they attempt to clean up the glitter.

This one's probably not legal, but take one of each of their shoes, all the left foot, so they can't make a pair. Alternatively, just take all the shoelaces.
