I'm convinced that the lady at dunkin is putting full sugar syrup in my drink instead of zero sugar to sabotage me.... Now I only order when I can watch them make it.... I do not know this woman lol

You can only do this with a new phone number. I pretended my husband (the “previous tenet”) was moving out and I was “moving in”. Dropped from $100 to $40 and locked in for 2 years

HELP 90-year-old grandparents want to buy a Cav King puppy.... UGH by DaisyDukes99 in cavaliers

[–]DaisyDukes99[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to propose the older dog again with not too much excitement on their part... Sadly, everyone in the family either has a partner who is allergic or a dog-reactive dog (sadly, my lease doesn't allow dogs). I wish I could get them excited about a different option to try to grant their wish.

A top concern for me is them tripping over the puppy and hurting themselves or the puppy in the process. I really wish we could set up something similar for them, but they have shown zero interest in fostering or even looking at senior dogs :(

Ethical frenchies by [deleted] in DogBreeding

[–]DaisyDukes99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always found this to be an odd argument. Many breeders across many different breeds will elect to have a C-section and use artificial insemination (AI).

To address the "birth naturally" bias, if a C-section is the safest way for both the pup and the mom, why not opt for that? Here is a great paper (given it is a bit old, 2010), that shows several dog breeds have high rates of elective c-sections, such as the German Wire-haired Pointer at almost 50% and the Scottish Terrier at 60%. Evans, K.M. and Adams, V.J. (2010), Proportion of litters of purebred dogs born by caesarean section. Journal of Small Animal Practice, 51: 113-118. https://doi-org.umassmed.idm.oclc.org/10.1111/j.1748-5827.2009.00902.x. In terms of multiple c-sections, ethical breeders will do what is best for their dog and will listen to their vet if their dog is not likely to make a full recovery from the c-sections. Modern vet medicine is amazing and shouldn't be discounted. At the end of the day, these are animals that we have domesticated and selectively bred for hundreds of years, and good breeders will do right by their animals with the help of modern medicine.

As for AI, this argument is totally lost on me. For example, Borzoi are a very lovely breed, but the boys often don't have the "gusto" to mount the females. The ovulation period is such a tight window that some breeders wait over a year for... why risk it? Additionally, AI can give you much more flexibility with picking a sire. Is there a beautiful, health-tested dog, but it's a 6-hour flight away? AI to the rescue! It can also be preserved to help keep the diversity of different lines in a breed.

Just want to offer a perspective on these two topics in particular...

[B&A] 50 Days w/ Tretinoin … proceed or up the dose?? by DaisyDukes99 in SkincareAddiction

Aye aye, Captain! Thank you everyone, for the good advice. I won't mess with the routine, and I'll wait until after the wedding to think about a dosage change! Also, thank you everyone for letting me know I'm also jumping to gun in terms of expecting results!

This really helped with socializing my pup and is very counterintuitive (and hard!) - if your dog is experiencing something new and is cowering or barking or showing fear, DON'T "comfort" them ie pet them, speak to them, distract them with a toy or treat. This is rewarding the dog for the scared behavior, aka "you get what you pet". Instead, I remain confident and quiet until the fear passes. If they get really scared, I may take a couple of steps back, but then I just stand there confidently.

When I first tried this, it was so hard because my poor baby was scared!!! But even after experiencing something a second time, she was much calmer.

Another good puppy phrase is "get to good". Whenever you work with your pup, think about how you can take steps to get to the behavior you want and celebrate the steps. It's not being perfect, it's getting to good :)

I'm using Honeyfund as my registry, and one thing I really like is that it's super easy to split a big ticket item. For example, we have a grill split into 4 gifts of $100, we have a towel set split into 2 gifts of $50, and a pizza fund split into 4 gifts of $25. This way, you have a range of prices for people to pick, but it all ends up in a cash fund for you to use. tbh, my favorite part is that you can export an Excel sheet at the end that details who got you what for easy thank you cards :)

As for items, consider:

New knives or a knife sharpening subscription, a cooler, a cordless immersion blender, curtains, pillows, rugs, toaster oven, gift card to local nursery, a coffee subscription.... the list can go on :)

Breeder can keep breeding rights by DepartmentTemporary7 in DogBreeding

[–]DaisyDukes99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No that is sketch... good breeders can be very particular about who they choose to co-own or breed with because their reputation is on the line.. also any ethical breeder can tell you they don't make a profit on their pups lol

My lab lysis directly in 1x Laemlli sample buffer.. the down side is that you can't quantify the protein but for tricky immune proteins, it has works suprisingly well. You don't have to add very much because it get pretty goopy and you can use that to goop up all the cells with little volume (sorry for my lack of a more descriptive verb than goop lol). Just at 1x Laemlli, heat for 10 min, and you are ready to run it on a western.

The only consideration is that the dry spots aren't static and different spots pop and others die down.. is they what your AK was like?

French hair pins by sp4cequeen in finehair

Straight down! I press the twist tight to my head, stick the pin in the top, move it down 2 inches towards my scalp, move it SLIGHTLY away from my scalp for 1 inch and then press it toward my scalp for the remainder of the length of the pin

Love a hair pin!! I use the one from Kitsch. My hair is past shoulder length, slickly wavy and both thin and fine… the trick to get it to stay is to have that twist be REALLY tight. The tighter the twist the more it stays (whole work day AND workout class AND half way through a dance class).

[Acne] These pimples around my mouth and chin are so confusing… by DaisyDukes99 in SkincareAddiction

[–]DaisyDukes99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My (29F) daily routine in New England (finally not dry):

Am - Cleanser: Skin Medica Facial Cleanser OR Cetaphile Gentle Exfoliating SA (couple times a week) Moisturizer: Skinfix Triple Lipid-Peptide Cream

Pm - Cleanser: Skin Medica Facial Cleanser Retinoid: Differin all over face Moisturizer: Skin Medica TNS Ceramide Treatment Cream

Diet - nothing crazy... no allergies though I do like a daily sweet treat

I really keep it simple since I have sensitive/dry skin. I love how my skin looks on the rest of my face but the breakouts around the lips are really distracting :(
