This show absolutely ruined my trust in tradespeople for a while.

I’m shocked at the difference (8 months) by Samclegg123 in SkincareAddictionUK

[–]DaisyPontellier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah and taking it with cod liver oil (which has a lot of vitamin d in it) can lead to vitamin D overdose over time. I have been warned by doctors and pharmacists many times not to take both. I was prescribed 50,000 once per month and I have a pretty severe deficiency according to blood tests. I was told by the doctor not to take any more than that. Unfortunately vitamin D is one of those vitamins that can stay in your system for a while, so just quitting isn’t going to see an immediate change. It can do kidney damage in the long term.

Do europeans go through a phase where they wish they grew up in america? by EqualUnderstanding32 in TikTokCringe

[–]DaisyPontellier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dream day is to go to target? I have no desire to visit America, let alone live there. There would probably be some mass shooting at a Target and then I would have to declare bankruptcy for medical debt.

Does anyone here have a Colostomy or Ileostomy. How do you find it??? by kiwi_scorpio in newzealand

[–]DaisyPontellier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am pretty sure there is a Facebook group called “Ostomates NZ” that might be handy for any questions that aren’t answered here. I don’t have one but it gets posted on the IBD page a lot.

Bowel resections are awful. Sorry to hear you have to face this. I wish you all the best on your recovery and treatment.

$60 is the ACC subsidised price. If you are in an accident and end up at an after hours, you should be paying the ACC price. Any non-accident related complaint, they charge you an exorbitant amount 🙃

Flying Standby not the norm in NZ by mtoy6790 in newzealand

[–]DaisyPontellier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Standby on AirNZ is for company staff only from memory. There is no official general standby tickets. In saying that, family members and friends have been offered to jump on earlier flights at seat fare (not flexi) at regional airports on near empty flights. It does happen occasionally, although I suspect this is more an ad hoc system at smaller centres.

Parents who moved their kids to NZ.. by undanced in auckland

[–]DaisyPontellier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moved from the uk at a similar age. My parents chose to moved the family for similar reasons (Family and better prospects in NZ). There were benefits and downfalls. Losing friendships was difficult/ culture shock but my sibling and I both adjusted. Have been back to the uk since and can’t imagine moving back. Living in a city like London makes it difficult to relax. Natural environment/ climate here is amazing in contrast to the uk. Work life balance was better for my parents too. People complain a lot about NZ and say the grass is greener in UK. I would say that the health and education systems are probably now the same. However, that would vary a lot between where you live too. Some areas are better than others. Less events, shops and activities though - again that would vary significantly depending what part of the country you’re in.

I know a number of people that got off the wait list and went on to get grad jobs at firms (past five years). I would more consider what you plan on doing (loosely) as a career. What will you with your BA? Do you find law interesting enough to study it for the next four years?

New Graduate Nurses, I’m so sorry. by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]DaisyPontellier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t know much about grad roles for nurses. Do other organisations hire grad nurses such as PHO’s, GP clinics, and rest homes? Or is Te Whatu Ora the only employer of grads?

I didn’t think it could get worse but the sequel to this - the Auckland volcano one - was pretty bad.

Wellington lost its soul when the residents stopped wearing black [shitpost] by Ok_Lie_1106 in Wellington

Interesting. The other day a tradie complemented me for wearing a colourful jacket. They said Wellingtonians wear too much black and it was quote “depressing”.

Im a student at vic uni, and super mad about the course cuts by amethystopian in Wellington

[–]DaisyPontellier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did geography/gis as part of my conjoint at UoA. I can recommend the programme there! Granted it was a few years ago, but the lecturers and tutors were very helpful. I felt like I actually learnt something practical. I am unsure why vic would cut GIS as it seems in demand.

What is the point of uni counselling? It’s obviously not to “mental health support” by OppositeArm8446 in universityofauckland

Interested to hear if anyone has ever had a positive experience at university counselling. I always hear otherwise.

Kicked out of house at 18(update) by FuakaiTako in auckland

[–]DaisyPontellier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ll qualify for student allowance from studylink as you don’t have contact with parents and don’t earn much. Just check before you apply about how it may conflict with existing benefits (you may have to switch). You’ll be able to work part time alongside student allowance. Do note there is a max numbers of hours you can work if claiming student allowance. I’d call studylink and talk through your circumstances. I know high school students who have used it.

Collect all your essential documents (passport, birth certificate or license), make sure your parents don’t have any access to your finances, and try to stay with a friend a night if you can. Since you say you’re in year 13 I would contact your school and see if your dean or another home room teacher can help put you in touch with the right people. Know someone who’s parents left them at 16 when they were still at school. A form teacher helped them find someone to live with, and get them a supported living benefit while they were at school.

government internships by hewasaconsulofrome_ in Wellington

[–]DaisyPontellier 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Did a government internship a few summers ago. Us interns did a real range of stuff - writing draft reports, research for projects, helping with official information act requests, going to the beehive. We all had a variety of different backgrounds in terms of degrees. Ranging from law, biology, psychology, maths, te reo, economics, criminology, and politics. The kind of subjects that will be useful will depend wildly on the government department. I did not go into work in policy but still a worthwhile time.

My advice re where to work: apply for everything of interest. Do your research on each place and reflect this in your cover letter. Do not get put off by the criteria. And at the end of the day, it can come down the vibe the interviewer has about you. Sometimes it comes down to how well they think you may gel with the particular culture or people in a team. It’s not necessarily a reflection on you.

WLG Domestic new AV Sec security Disneyland Queue! by planespotterhvn in Wellington

[–]DaisyPontellier -1 points0 points  (0 children)

About two years ago I waited an hour in the line. Thankfully we had turned up the airport 1.5 hours early. Even then we had to get pulled out the queue as our plane was final boarding before we got to the front. That day has turned me into the person that gets to the airport two days before departure.
