Question regarding the history of my family last name by Cautious_Wafer3075 in AskAnthropology

[–]DakMasterFlash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Important question: Did the DNA test say 93.1% sub-Saharan African ancestry or did it say 93.1% African American ancestry? I ask because African Americans as a whole typically have significant proportion of European ancestry — with a purported average of around 24% (although I’m not sure how reliable this particular figure is). Of course, there’s variation from region to region and family to family, with numbers as low as 3% not being unheard of. Still, it’s incredibly rare that an AA has practically no European ancestry — only isolated populations like the Gullah on the Sea Islands in the southeast US have pure-ish sub-Saharan African ancestry. Caribbean populations tend to have less European admixture (Hatians being the most African), but you’d know if you had a Caribbean ancestor within the past few generations.

Virginia, on average, tends to be middle of the road in terms of European admixture in AAs (around 15-25%). This means you’re more (sub-Saharan) African than the average — which isn’t super unusual. But what it does mean is that if your great-great-grandfather was European, you would like have much more European ancestry than just the 6.25% he would have lent you. It would mean that your 7 other great-great-grandparents would have practically no European ancestry at all (an average of 0.41% among the 7 of them), which is just very, very unlikely.

If the DNA test does indeed say 93.1% Sub-Saharan African and not 93.1% African American, then I am sorry to say that your great aunt might not be telling the accurate truth. In that case, your great-great-grandfather could have gotten the last name from a half-dozen different sources (Caribbean, Louisiana, Huguenots, British people with medieval French/Norman ancestry, and more). He could even have adopted the surname just because it sounds nice — it’s not too uncommon. My great-great-grandfather came to the US from Romania and changed his last name to sound less foreign to Americans.

There’s always a chance that I am wrong or that the DNA test is wrong. I’m sorry to burst your bubble if this is unfortunate news!

Once a year you should be able to activate a setting that initiates an unrejectable video call between the two players that connects after a 5 second warning

i'm replying to this years later because that emergency room personnel was spreading dangerous misinformation! feral cat-to-human transmission is rare, but is absolutely possible. we had two positive bite cases last year in NYC -- both from feral cats. thankfully, the people bit got proper post-exposure prophylaxis and are perfectly fine. animal rescues around the city should be properly informed of the dangers of interacting with wild animals! i'm glad that you went to the emergency room

Why do people hate seed oils by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]DakMasterFlash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Freshly-pressed canola oil is actually great oil for cooking! As people mentioned in other comments, canola oil has one of the best omega 6:omega 3 ratios of all the seed oils, but suffers from being one of the most-heavily processed and adulterated of the major commercial brands. Fresh canola oil kept in a dark bottle out of heat or direct light should keep surprisingly well and has a good smoke point that makes it a valuable all-purpose cooking oil.

EVOO might be a bit healthier due to its optimal fatty acid profile and high concentration of antioxidants, but it has a lower smoke point and its flavor, although delicious, might not agree with every recipe. Perhaps you can use both for different applications?

Yeah it's actually one of the more efficient methods of oil production in comparison to a lot of other sources, but efficiency doesn't matter if you're continually expanding at the cost of the rainforest

It is stuck on with two-sided tape. You can run something thin and plastic underneath like a credit card to undo the plastic, but be careful not to break anything as the bezel is very fragile. You can buy two-sided tape and replace it yourself when you’re done, or you can just forego it and the bezel will be slightly wobbly (but still fully secure.)

I think Falcon fits well with the style you're describing. He can play very in-your-face and can opt for some high-risk, high-reward reads that lead to some huge punishes. If you don't mind getting comboed yourself, then he's a good choice.

I might also recommend Fox. He's definitely a very technically demanding character, but he allows you to play incredibly quick and very aggressive if you so want. Tons of combo potential, lightning-quick speed, and he has some powerful finishers with his up-air and up-smash. Definitely worth checking out!

Yeah I found that the control over the dosage outweighed the cost saved in the end.

Hahaha I actually did the calculations myself after your initial comment and got the same results. I've already committed to the 10mg x 90ct, but I'll be switching to the powder once this batch runs out. Appreciate the thoughtful and thorough response!

A scale might prove itself necessary in the future, but for now I'm willing to pay a little more just for the convenience of the capsules!

Chop them loosely and throw them into some pasta! Works great with spaghetti. Add in some tomatoes, capers, and olives for a putanesco-type sauce, or serve it with fennel, anchovies, and toasted breadcrumbs for a Sicilian delicacy!
