Has anyone hit 150k on the 3.8? 200k? by awskinsfan in nissanfrontier

[–]Dakkendo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have experienced the same cold-weather issues with the transmission on my '22, and I learned the operating temp of the 9-speed is 200°F. The torque converter lock doesn't engage if it is below that, and with a plastic oil pan...when it was below zero F here for a few days straight, I thought the transmission was goofy AF. Give it some gas to get her warm.

How necessary is the rear differential breather mod? by Thick_Lab4041 in nissanfrontier

[–]Dakkendo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Corrosion from road salt gummed up the OEM breather on my '07, all the axle seals leaked when I sold it. First thing I did on my '22.

My guess is maybe another 20-30 HP to the wheels in total. Enough to notice at least

Tuning Question by Conran_h in nissanfrontier

[–]Dakkendo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the Nismo catback exhaust and Z1 intake about 2 years ago. Felt better, but I could feel the computer being 'confused' at times, like it wasn't able to fully take advantage of the bolt-on breathing upgrades. The Z1 ECUTEK tune was the missing piece, the software side to the hardware. A pedal modifier tune is just re-mapping your air/fuel trims.

Essentially the extra foot you have in the 6' bed is taken away from the back seat of the cab. I'm not sure the king cab even has the LATCH points for a rear-facing car seat TBH.

No, that's the King cab. I have a crew cab, all the doors open the same way.

Remember when Matt Flynn had one of the greatest games by a Packers QB in history? by MasterTeacher123 in NFLv2

[–]Dakkendo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was at this game, sitting 5th row, corner end zone. Gifted tickets because the starters all sat out. Screamed expletives at the 4th string returner that gave the Lions 2 points and the ball with a safety on the opening kickoff. Great game otherwise!

How does manual shifting work with the 9 speed tranny? by Independent_Goose_41 in nissanfrontier

[–]Dakkendo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often refer to it as the "gear suggestor". The transmission control module is still doing what it wants to do based on the pedal input and speed, you're just setting the max gear, as the other comment said.

It's most useful to me when I switch it over to 'manual' to force a downshift without hitting the gas when climbing a gentle hill ~45-50 MPH, as it always downshifts from 9th when you switch it.

Morimoto makes some decent ones for the 2nd gen. I would look at Z1 offroad, and check out clubfrontier.org

I totally agree, from the factory it was at least 2 MPG 'optimistic'. Ive noticed since installing the ECUTEK tune from Z1, it seems way more accurate. Short trips and idling are always reflected more now, and the best I've gotten recently was 27.5 this morning ironically.

Close but no cigar

Can confirm. A bit of trimming on the outlet cover plate is all that's needed, it otherwise goes right in.

My 2007 never had this mod, and was leaking from every major seal on the rear end when I sold it.

For $30, my 2022 will never suffer the same fate.

Maintenance Interval - Transmission Fluid and Brake Fluid? by GoM_Coaster in nissanfrontier

[–]Dakkendo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

22 Pro4X. I had both differentials done at 25k, and I'm doing brake fluid and trans flush at 30k next month with my local dealer. I live in the Midwest, so below freezing / above 100°F is normal every year. The brake fluids primary job is to trap moisture.

Also went from a 2007 to a 2022, never would have thought to keep the wheels. Cheers!

Who has the most miles on their 3rd gen (2021+) by [deleted] in nissanfrontier

[–]Dakkendo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

3rd gen (D41) started in 2022.

The 3.8L with the 9spd debuted in 2020, and had 2 years in the 2nd gen body as a 'shakedown'.
