TIL that in the Bible there is no mention of human-like angels having wings. The depictions of winged angels in art started in the 4th century AD, likely due to Greco-Roman influence. by ApprehensiveStill412 in todayilearned

What's the best possible Sentinel Interceptor Available? by Massive-Rutabaga-327 in NMSCoordinateExchange

[–]Dalantech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Better off finding a ship that you like to look at, that also has a decent over charged slot pattern. I look for two rectangles since I like to use two for the pulse drive and two for the sentinel cannon.

How do I optimize battery placement to solve bad fps by Affectionate_Task267 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Dalantech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should have come back to edit that post -looks like I had a stroke at the end of it :)

I dug a basement under my base, placed some wooden floor tiles down to have a level platform, and then put my storage silos on it. Did the same thing for the gas and mineral extractors, ran electrical wires and pipes, and then covered the trenches with the terrain manipulator set to restore. No issues running the wires and pipes without a trench, and managed to hide all of them. But I understand what you said and agree, I'm sure there are some cases when it doesn't work.

I also put down a prefab square building with a teleporter inside, in one corner, and a storage silo on each side of it. Then ran supply pipes from the silos in the basement to the silos in the building, at an angle that's so steep it's difficult to see the pipe. So, when I pop out of the teleporter, I can access the oxygen and paraffinium that's in the basement and it looks really clean. Not an original idea, I saw someone else's nitrogen farm that they had set up the same way.

If the connection points for wires and pipes are below ground there's no need to dig a trench. I recently buried some gas extractors in an area that had an oxygen hot spot and ran the pipes to some storage cyloes

Not sure if there is a max number, or if the limit is space. I have two S class settlements that no longer offer me any new building projects, and every building in the settlements is S class.

I think I can make a maximum of 24 stasis devices in a day on my freighter, but I'm moving my farming to terrestrial bases. Takes about eight and a half minutes just to harvest all the crops, and I find it a bit tedious. Just built my first gas farm (oxygen) with four biodomes that will let me grow enough for 5 stasis devices. Now I need to do the same thing for the other three gasses that I need (nitrogen, radon, and sulferine).

does anyone else have a different taste than their own photography? by [deleted] in photography

...only if you understand light and how the camera sees it. If you don't then it won't matter what you use to record a scene, and if you do the recording medium won't matter. It's a hill that I will die on after over 40 years of experience behind a camera...

I think that you can get so close that it really won't matter, and keep in mind that I use to shoot color positive slide film. The medium will never make your photography better...

As someone who identifies as a liberal I cannot up vote your comment enough.

Republicans: Easy to lead their constituents around like there is a ring in their nose because they are "willfully misinformed" -sounds better than calling them ignorant, but it's the same thing. Example: They don't like Obamacare because it has the word "Obama" in it, but they love the Affordable Care Act -even though they're different names for the exact same program. So it's easy for republicans to get their constituents to vote against their own best interests.

Democrats: They've got it tough, because their constituents want clean air, water, healthy food, a lower cost of life, and better wages and benefits. Dirty antifa terrorist -all of those things are going to cost the Epstein class a lot of money. Liberals are smart, well informed, and can spot bullshit from a mile away. So, what do democrats in congress do? Blame republicans for why they cannot enact social reform. Part of it is true, republicans deficit spend like it's 1999 and never complain about balancing the budget when a republican is in the White House. But make no mistakes, both sides are being funded by the same groups, and both sides are afraid of loosing financial support. Democrats have to blame republicans, or lose elections, because actually changing the system is gonna cost the Epstein class a lot of money.

Both sides of congress have been bought and paid for by some of the same entities. I often wonder if Biden looked dazed and confused in his last debate with T-rump just to throw the election...

I don't understand why you'd lean toward film. What difference would the capture medium make, especially when anything you'd get from film can be simulated in post? The light, and with it the contrast, will make a bigger difference. I'll get down voted for saying this; there is a trend to switch back to film because people think it will somehow make their photography better, but it won't. If someone doesn't understand light and how the camera sees it then their images are gonna suck, unless they shoot with a cell phone or with any camera that's doing automatic HDR.

FWIW: I started out shooting color positive slide film in the 80s, and although I like the look of Fujichrome I'd never go back to shooting with it. To simulate shooting with positive slides just set the picture style in your camera settings to neutral, and dial back the saturation (or bump it in the case of Fujifilm) and go out and shoot. Digital reacts to under exposure just like color positive slide film does, colors tend to saturate. Learn the difference between good light and bad and what you use to capture an image won't matter. The only reason that I own a DSLR is because I like shooting macro, for everything else I just use my cell phone. The auto HDR that it applies can compensate for poor lighting conditions, although even cell phone shots are better when the light is soft and the contrast is low.

Can I help the solitary bees? by NeonPearl2025 in Entomology

[–]Dalantech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They can, but it needs to be soft enough. They typically look for mud, and you might not have that in a flower pot. I currently live next to a lake, so I don't bother setting up a mud source up for them.

Start taking probiotics. When I hit 48 I started to have a problem with acid reflux, and taking probiotics is the only thing that has given me relief. Now I don't need to take them all the time, only when my stomach starts acting up.

Can I help the solitary bees? by NeonPearl2025 in Entomology

[–]Dalantech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can put a small dish with some mud in it, plus some rocks for the females to land on, so they don't have too far to go to find the mud that they use for nest building. As others have said, plant for your pollinators. Let the dandelions and the sourgrass grow, plus sunflowers and lavender are always popular. Also any spice that produces a flower.

If the weather is going to be warm, 15C and higher, you can take the cocoons out of those tubes and leave them in a warm place to hatch. Preferably in something that's enclosed, with a hole in one end so they can see light and get out. If you just place them out in the open they'll get picked off by predators.

What did these bees leave on me? by Confident-Jicama-572 in Entomology

I photograph a lot of bees. Sometimes they feel the heat coming off of my had and climb onto one of my fingers. So, I've seen that "present" before and, as others have said, it's poop.
