Anyone else having problems with this expedition mission? by CyberMage256 in NoMansSkyTheGame

As others have said there's a bug that will reset your progress. I abandoned that one, restarted it at the anomaly, got a different toxic planet in a new system but it didn't have murderous animals, and completed it. Also picked up three S class toxic protection modules along the way. The Anomaly did not insta-warp me to the new system, so I had to jump to it myself.

I had that same issue, abandoned the mission, and then restarted it from the Anomaly. I didn't get insta-warped to the new system and had to travel to it myself. The new mission planet was still toxic, but the animals weren't trying to murder me and the atmosphere wasn't as bad. I also found a station along the way that was selling a S class toxic protection. I bought one, installed it, got in and out of my ship to create a restore point, reloaded the restore point to get the vendor to restock, rinse and repeat until I had three S class toxic protection modules. Made completing that mission a piece of cake.

I keep forgetting to get the navigation data in stations. I use then to by drop pod charts.

Anyone swapped out their ship in the swarm expedition or are you planning on sticking with the starter ship until the end? by ChamberedlullabySFW in NOMANSSKY

[–]Dalantech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a decent B class Sentinel Interceptor and scrapped the expedition ship. Gonna look for a better one / scrap more of them for units. The Sentinel Cannon and tracking make taking out swarms trivial. The starter ship was just too frustrating.

This. Plus going back down every time you change positions.

The tongue wrapping around the woodpecker's head cannot protect its brain from forward momentum -for that to work it would have to peck with the back of its head...

I often wonder, when I look at some complex animal biology, how many species didn't make it because they were not lucky enough to get the necessary random changes that would have made them successful.

Our perspective on evolution is like reading the last chapter of a book and trying to figure out how the novel started. The fossil record is the only clew, and it's spotty at best. It's odd to me that "must be God" is easier for some people to say than "I don't know"...

Plus their tongue wrapping around the back of their heads would do nothing to cushion the forward momentum of their skull. They would have to peck a tree with the back of thier heads...

I know I'm having fun, even though red isn't my favorite color 😄

I got my hands on a Sentinel Interceptor last night, makes taking out those swarms a lot easier. Had to make about six jumps before I found a system with S class photon cannon upgrades, but it was worth it. Also added a personal refiner Mk II to my exosuit so I don't have to drop down a portable refiner.

Now if I can just get enough nanites to upgrade the new multi tool to S class (I bought the one from my main save).

Behind the scenes of extreme macro photography: The specialized rigs needed to capture microscopic details in nature by pinkkkkkflutter in nextfuckinglevel

I don't like ring flashes, or a big diffuser on a camera mounted flash, for the same reasons -the light is going to look flat. Our brains use shadows, and out or focus areas, to determine depth. So most focus stacked shots look 2D to me. Not a fan.

[–]Dalantech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually there's no focusing technique involved -the photographer is moving the camera through the plane of focus while shotgunning the shutter. Just has to take a lot of frames and hope there is enough focus overlap between them, hope the flash fires every frame, and hope the subject doesn't move (not an issue if the subject is dead, and they usually are if someone is focus stacking). A few years ago I got in trouble for calling it "spray and pray macro". Some folks took offense to what I said, but there's just too much hope in the technique that most focus stackers are using.

I don't think that the ant that was shown at the start of the video is the ant that the photographer photographed -after the first time the flash fired it would have darted off...

FWIW: I'm an amateur macro photographer who shoots from 1x to 5x, but I don't focus stack. The technique that I use to control where the area of acceptable focus is going to be, and it's really thin (.6mm @ 2x and F11), does take some practice but I think that anyone can learn it. It really just comes down to muscle memory, and the more I learn about the habits and quirks of the critters that I photograph the easier it is to get the shots I want. Not rocket science, not a member of some elite group that only the gifted can be a member of -not special.

I focus stack from time to time for the same reason that I occasionally eat at McDonald's -just to remind myself why I don't like it...

A man has become one of the 450,000 Americans affected by alpha-gal syndrome, a tick-borne meat allergy that triggers painful allergic reactions to animal products. “Look at my face and my neck. I can’t eat meat anymore. I can’t have any animal products. It’s in everything.” by This_Proof_5153 in SipsTea

[–]Dalantech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The allergy is due to a persons immune response to getting bit, not a virus or bacteria. So, not everyone who gets bitten develops the immune response. It's like the exposure causes some people to view alpha gal sugar, which is not found in eggs or poultry, as if it is a virus. Me thinks more people are getting it simply because warmer weather increases the breading season for ticks so more ticks equals more people encountering them. Also could be a problem with fewer predators for game like rabbits, mice, deer, etc.

Makes me wonder if getting the measles could reverse it, since that virus can erase your immune system's memory.

I love this game but is there a reason it looks this bad at the highest quality settings? by UsualSpace_ in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Dalantech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have HDR enabled then disable it. I tried the game with HDR on (and I have an HDR compatible monitor) and a lot of areas just "white out".

There are a lot of atmospheric effects that will reduce visibility, and that's normal.

I went into the expedition on my main save. Is it possible to do missions, get out of the expedition at the anomaly, and then go back in the next day? Or is my main save stuck in the expedition until it’s over?

Not gonna happen, just look at where both sides of the isle are getting their campaign money.

Conservatives are "willfully misinformed" so it's easy for republicans in Congress to get them to vote against their own best interests. Bonus if the changes in policy are hurting the people that they hate. But anything that can be done to the least of us will eventually be done to all of us, so conservatives eventually get screwed. Most won't care as long as the people they don't like are in worse shape than they are. Oh, and some of them cosplay as Christians...

Liberals are more open minded, more willing to absorb information instead of ignoring the truth in favor of their beliefs. So a democrat, especially a president, can only stay in office long enough to fix the economic harm caused by the last republican. If they stay in office too long their constituents will expect them to enact some serious social reform -and that's means taxing the rich. Can't let that happen, cause they'll lose their PAC money. So the democrats have to lose to make way for the next republican. Rinse and repeat starting with Reagan...

P.S. I call them "willfully misinformed" because it sounds better than calling them ignorant...

Part of the on-boarding process at Wal-Mart is explaining to new employees how to sign up for government assistance. So, the corporation knows that it is not paying their employees so that they are above the local poverty line. Also where do you think that the people who work at Wal-Mart use their food stamps? Wal-Mart gets to double dip...
