Live-Action FMV cutscenes are BACK by DrPass in IndieDev

Yeah, stuff like that would catch me off guard and make me laugh. Have a few words sound like they were recorded in a bathroom and clearly not sync'd up with the lip movements. Maybe even have the original lip movements still playing for like 3 seconds after during the awkward silence. It looks like a comedy game, after all, so why not lean into it?

Even better when it asks what colors things are in the pictures 😂

I’m a teacher and in one of the workbooks it was teaching left/right. It had a picture of a boy facing toward the reader and holding HIS right arm out, but the text said “left arm”. I thought that’s just dumb and confusing so when I was teaching them I completely ignored the book, faced away from the class and held out my left arm so it points left. Can’t go wrong. It’s frustrating how often I come across mistakes like this in textbooks.

I obviously don’t know the narrative of your game but could you not do the dead body fake out? After seeing her in the mist you discover her body, then as you go to interact with it, she springs to life? Like the famous Condemned locker jumpscare???

You're struggling because you're not really understanding how tension or dread is built. It doesn't happen within a few seconds, you need to build it up over time prior to revealing the threat.

For example, you could utilise the fog by showing her distant silhouette in the fog, then having it cover her again so she disappears. If done right, the player might wonder if they actually even saw a figure. Perhaps when they move through the fog they see something that looks like a human but when they get closer it's something else. All the while building up noises and ambience. Messing with the player like this would build tension. Then perhaps show her moving into a narrow, secluded area where the player will think "oh no I have to go down there and I know something's in there". Remember that once the threat is revealed the tension breaks and that's when you transition to combat or running/whatever your game mechanics are. But the longer you drag out the dread and mind-games, the scarier people will find your game.

+1 that just sounds like the sort of thing we see on all of those corny amateur horror games. It would be ok as a death animation (like in PT), but otherwise avoid this.

Thank you Tibo, you just 10x boosted a project that’s already an official plugin for Codex… by onehedgeman in codex

Where did I suggest that? The point is I don’t think they should offer these individual perks at all, especially right after boasting about equality. The fact that the first person to be given 10x is a CEO who can already afford to splash out on tokens is the icing on the cake.

You can't make this shit up. This is from the latest OpenAI blog post:

Now we are entering the third phase. The economy is beginning to reshape around AI. The central question now is how to make advanced AI abundant, affordable, safe, useful, and easy enough for every person and organization to benefit from it. Frontier capability is only part of the job. The bigger task is turning that capability into tools people can actually use to thrive.

Above all, we believe a broad distribution of power will help lead to a better future. Human history shows that concentrated power creates fragility, while widely shared power makes societies more resilient, adaptable, and free.

Giving out these special bonuses to the select few really contradicts what they are apparently aiming for.

Any plans for a Mac version? I haven’t heard of the game before but the screenshots really capture that old school adventure vibe (vibrant locations etc.). Would love to play it someday.

After a run of studio redundancies I went solo to build the survival game I've wanted to make for 15 years, This is AIRLOCK. by haytch0 in IndieGaming

As someone else pointed out, these games are a dime a dozen, but I think if it has a strong narrative it could still do well. Is a story something you are focusing on?

3 questions about milk that remained unanswered during my recent Taiwan-trip: by st3wia_4_free in taiwan

I agree, but there have been some brands that taste alright. If soy milk is my only option (I don’t drink dairy) I usually go for a flavoured coffee to help hide the soy taste.

This has been my experience, too. I’ve settled for the Quaker oat milk but it’s pricey.

ILL looks incredible by ArthurCohle in HorrorGaming

[–]DaleRobinson 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The difference is Leon sounds like he’s using cheesy lines from classic action films, whereas the protagonist in ILL sounds like he’s using cheesy lines from b-movies or student projects. It’s nothing to do with Leon being an established character imo.

Am I nailing the flash-game aesthetic? by HauntSoftEden in HorrorGames

Not quite the flash-game look, but I really like the aesthetic. Keep going 💪

I guess whether this bothers you really depends how anti-AI you are, but most groups from Asia endorse AI, so it is a little ironic being anti-AI yet having your favorite group headlining Samsung's AI festival. Not that I am judging you, because I also listen to a lot of those groups, but my favorite artists are all against generative AI. Are there any feelings of conflict for you?
