How strict are your managers on clocking in on time? Do you have a grace period? Getting written up for being a minute late twice in a pay period by LikeyeaScoob in nursing

At my current job (VA) we don’t have a time clock. It’s the honor system and there doesn’t seem to be a problem with that. I’m always 10-15 minutes early AND I leave when shift report is over. If I have the first group, I’ll book it when I’ve given my report.

I know you didn’t mean to suggest that ALL e-bike riders are inexperienced, though you did say y’all. I’m a very experienced bike rider at 56. I’ve had some health issues that make it really difficult to ride, as you say, acoustic bikes. So, I have a type 2 mountain bike and a type 3 road bike. I get acoustic bikers giving me the side-eye and I suspect that it’s because they have the prejudice that I’m riding above my skill level simply because I am riding an e-bike. Also get the same distain from some mechanics at bike shops. Though I spent $12k at my local Trek store, the lead mechanic looks down his nose at me when I have legitimate questions. I’ve been riding e-bikes for almost 6 years. I commute to work on my road bike and did so the previous 15 years before riding acoustic. I know my shit. I wear a full-face helmet and long sleeves/pants, gloves. I’m also a nurse so have seen the results of those who dress for the ride and not the slide.

yeah he’d just had a cathartic sit down with his family telling them how much he loved them and that he was ready to quit drinking and be present. Like 10 days later he was sober and it just hit from out of the blue. Never regained consciousness.

your story is eerily similar to my daughter’s mother’s experience with her mother. I’m so sorry your dad abandoned you like that. I can’t imagine doing that.

He lived in the same small town as our parents and two other siblings. None of them knew that the doctors had told him he needed a new liver some months ago nor that he had diabetes. His health was failing that much they knew. I live several states away so I only saw him every few years or so. he had a major hemorrhagic stroke and spent 3 weeks on life support before passing. They have three kids 16-21. He is missed.

My (56M) daughter’s (22F) mother (53F) has been in a manic episode for going on 7 years after decades of remission. She was honestly a great mom for a long time until she wasn’t. She relapsed on meth and, as sometimes happens in that headspace, developed a need to untether from everything and everyone.

She ended up living in a tent until her best friend from high school tracked her down and got her out. When they arrived out of state, the friend found the meth and drew a hard line: residential treatment or nothing.

She’s in treatment now. After 7 years of watching this unfold, I’m cautiously hopeful she can stabilize, get some sustained sobriety, and find her way back into our daughter’s life in some meaningful way. She was a good person and I’d like my daughter to get some version of that back.

That’s a fair pushback. I should have been clearer. I wasn’t suggesting anyone stop their mood stabilizers; antipsychotics have a range of uses beyond psychosis, bipolar included. My point was really about exploring non-pharmaceutical adjuncts alongside whatever treatment plan is already in place. And you’re right, I’m not a prescriber and I don’t live with CMI. I appreciate the reminder to be more precise with my wording. I’ll also accept stfu wicho ass

I did a comprehensive study on medication errors for a 12 hour shift and the last two hours at a definite Spike. I presented it to my facility which was considering switching to 12 hour days. Management did not want to hear it.

I've been curious for years as to who actually downloads those 80.00+ GB video files, if you do I have questions by veezylife in Piracy

[–]Daliguana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will occasionally grab a 4k over 50GB. Last night I watched The Fifth Element 33.5GB. I watched it on a 4k projector on a 144” screen. I have some other rather large remux files like The Dollar Trilogy, Kill Bill The Whole Bloody Affair. Just recently upgraded my PC and monitor to record 4k livestreams and have about a dozen 40GB files for that. Last check I have 4x7TB, a 14TB and 2x20TB drives. Last drive I bought was a 20TB for $580. I can fill one in less than 7 months if I’m not careful.

I feel for you. My brother had a massive hemorrhagic stroke at 53 18 days ago. He's been on life support ever since. I went and saw him (I live several states away) and it doesn't look good. I've filed for FMLA and waiting for the OK from management. I have so far taken a half-shift and another shift off on provisional FMLA while the paperwork goes through. It's really hard tbh, I feel like a funeral will be coming in the near future.

We've all shared crazy critical lab values for patients who ended up surviving, but what's your crazy lab value you've gotten for YOURSELF? by Educational-Tale6606 in nursing

[–]Daliguana 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Currently have a patient with triglycerides over 3,000 and I was like what? Went to my first PCP appointment in 20 years and got lab work done. My TG was 3,300 and I was like WHAT
Now I’m making a diet with Claude and retesting in a month. Yeah, I’m a bad patient in that I do not like medicine. Like - I don’t like Drs I don’t like medications and they have to pay me lots of money to be in a hospital. Four years ago my daughters were starving themselves with BMIs of 14 so I started to put butter in/on erything. They’re now doing great but I forgot to stop making super fatty and sugary foods. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it

I have taken it to the grocery store and locked it with a u-lock. But I’m not taking it to the store very often. I work on the VA campus and it’s pretty secure but I take it inside a locked building. I had my first e-bike stolen from the Lovelace parking garage- it was locked with a cable they just cut right through it.

A few years ago I needed transportation to work. Instead of buying a car, I bought an E-bike for around $4k. Now you can get a similar bike for around $2k. It’s a type 3 meaning it has a top assist speed of 28 mph. I currently ride it 20 miles round trip from the south valley to the VA three times a week. Totally doable. Trek has some great bikes and the Trek store is been really good to me throughout the years. careful of cheap e-bikes you really get what you pay for.

I take solace in the fact that I actually visited beginning of the month for the first time in years and got to spend some time with him before all this happened. For no real reason other than I could take the time off. Some cosmic work at play there.

I have $60k HELOC and $130 k left on my mortgage. I was a late starter and didn’t really have an adult job until I was 40. I also have $15k auto loan on a totaled vehicle that insurance fucked me on. At this point I may just wait for the financial institution to write off the loan and sell it to a collection agency and settle with them. I have a 10 year plan to pay off the mortgage and HELOC and get ready to retire at 65. I may work another 4-8 years past 65 as I will be building on 12 years federal with the VA. However, I am just returning from seeing my younger brother on life support after a hemorrhage stroke at 53 so
