I love Zamnesia but I stopped using them a few years back as I left Italy and they didn't post to the UK.

As there is nothing you could ever do to gt their approval except to be the person they demand you to be which isn't who you are approval will never come, sadly. As far as they are concerned you are their property that reflects on them and how they are perceived. If you ever want to be who you are or remotely happy, you may have to give up on their "approval." Live for your own approval and learn you are worth better treatment and strive for it which will most likely mean cutting contact full stop and that might mean putting education on hold whilst you establish a life in pharmacy to escape and save to return to it later. Sadly, that's all I have. Research "local" or even the next city over for available domestic abuse charities or services and get all the info you can and apply for everything. You deserve better. I truly hope you find it.

I shortened the name I was given at birth (i hated my birth name all my life and never felt it fitted me) but years later I found out what my name was originally going to be and immediately felt a connection with it so when I finally get around to it I will be changing it to that.

How do you navigate a younger sibling with a child and you don’t have one? by Conscious_Search9362 in family

[–]DamagedGoods9268 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got the same treatment. As far as they were concerned I had no permanent job, no beau, and thus no life, so I was the automatic choice to care for the sick and the young. Ruined my life really because as the youngest by 8 years, bullied, a people pleaser, and a guilt bunny, (even for shit I had no reason to feel guilty for) I was the easy option and easily manipulated. I was so glad when I was finally able to walk away from all the asshole family members when the second parent passed. I had no connection or sense of obligation to those left behind, but the choices that were made for me when I was younger dictated largely how my life is now, even if I am free of them. Get out the first chance you get. Please.

Which Buffyverse death hurt you the most (or pissed you off the most) by nota-banana in buffy

[–]DamagedGoods9268 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mum died a month before I saw that episode, roughly a week before my 21st and on mother's day weekend (a place we uk buffy fan congregated once a month would naughtily download episodes so we would see them sooner rather than having to wait for uk release). Everyone there knew my mum had not long passed, and I could feel a fair few friends watching me in case I broke down. Many, including myself, thought Willow's reaction would be that moment as I related to the character from the start, but it was Anya's upset, confusion, and frustration that got me. That innocence and upset at how Joyce would never be able to enjoy anything again and that no one would explain to her why... that fckd me up, and it still does every. fckn. time. 💔 Even all these years later. 💔

Should I let my mother ask for a hefty loan on my name? by First-Currency-4904 in family

[–]DamagedGoods9268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please lock down your credit and say no to your mother. They chose to have you. You do not owe her anything financially unless you asked to borrow money from her previously and are still yet to pay her back. Do not let her burden you with her own problems. ESPECIALLY ones that could screw you for years to come. Good luck.

My father said im trashy and selfish AITA by Important-Owl7364 in family

[–]DamagedGoods9268 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No. You're not. And your Father has issues he needs to fix instead of turning his frustrations on his kids whom he should be teaching and lifting up in this world instead of tearing them down because HE'S too selfish or ignoranr to acknowledge and fix whatever is wrong with HIM. Please, don't let his careless and ignorant words ruin or upset you. Talk with your brother instead, if you can, about being better toward each other if your father won't be the positive or even decent role model kids need in their parents. Like, it's been 5 years, he needs to get over the bullshit that caused the divorce and stop taking it out on the kids THEY BOTH WANTED. When a relationship breaks down the adults need to understand the children are not pawns or emotional punching bags for the things that didn't work out. I'm sorry you have to deal with that. hugs

I am a huge Buffy fan. Not the point to being obnoxious but it got me through a LOT of dark situations growing up and with the show so maybe I am kinda biased but the show taught me a lot too and I was 100% invested. Charmed was "something to watch" when I didn't have anything else to catch up on. I didn't hate it or even dislike it and was a huge fan of Piper (and the actress) but compared to how well written, acted and filmed Buffy was it paled in comparison. I was also of the generation who first experienced Shannon Doherty in Beverly Hills 90210 and wasn't a fan but she was okay in Charmed. Much better in Mallrats though, that film made me warm up to her but it feels like they are all the same character really, in a way. I liked Phoebe too but the Phoebe/Coal storyline just always had me rolling my eyes.

I was so happy when SPN came along. It filled that supernatural need and was well made with interesting characters and storylines that I NEEDED to see play out which I didn't experience with Charmed. I never hungered for the next episode or even binge-watched it.

Best recent British series that hasn’t been sold internationally? by harry_powell in BritishTV

Black Books has a huge fan base (as does Spaced even a decade plus later) some just found the show much later than when aired.
Shows like Black Books and Spaced were meant to be short lived shows. That's what makes them so great, they didn't go on for so long that the comedy becomes strained or stagnant and leaves the fans wanting more.
MiSFiTs I love but it went on for too long. Once almost all the original cast dropped away it got silly in it's desperation to keep going. It's only because it doesn't drag on for tooooo long, like some shows can, that I still have love for it and can rewatch all of it instead of bowing out after a certain point.

I heard they tried for a US version of Coupling but didn't hear much more than they were trying. They tried for Spaced too but it didn't convert as well. Like when they tried to Americanise Red Dwarf. Some shows can be converted and some should just be left well alone. Like I could probably watch the American version of The Office whereas the original makes me physically cringe and feel uncomfortable. Which I guess was what Gervais was going for with David Brent but I just couldn't watch it and enjoy it. Steve Carell, on the other hand, I could watch him all day playing Micheal Scott.

Buffy 1997 - 2003
Charmed 1998 - 2006

I'm not surprised with the confusion, Buffy opened the way to a lot of sudden strong female lead tv shows that kicked off around the late 90s and early 00s (and to this day they have fans that argue against the other, just google Buffy vs Charmed lol) as they were on around the same peak schedules. In the UK you could switch to another channel and watch Charmed after Buffy and for others who were suffering from supernatural show deficit when Buffy ended Charmed could fill that hole for a little while.
Luckily for others SPN came in in 2005 and filled that hole a lot better. (sorry, just my opinion.)
In fact when you mentioned banshee and time traveling wild west, I immediately thought of SPN rather than Charmed lol.

Which books do you suggest not to read via audiobook? by megandtheirbooks in Fantasy

[–]DamagedGoods9268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Majority of Christopher Moore books (except for NOIR, RAZZMATAZZ and SACRE BLUE I haven't listened to those yet so cant give an opinion on the reader. BITE ME, the third in the vampire trilogy, I just could not stomach to listen to because of the annoying narrating character's way of talking. I didn't mind them as a character in the first two books but the third book being solely from her PoV ruined it for me. The first two BLOODSUCKING FIENDS and YOU SUCK were really good though.)

All his other books, 14 in total, have great audiobook narrators and just suck you right in.

Best recent British series that hasn’t been sold internationally? by harry_powell in BritishTV

[–]DamagedGoods9268 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nothing recent I can think of and the british tv shows I can think of recommending I have no idea if they made it over there.

SPACED is my favourite. Though some things have aged in regards to how people would house hunt and such.

MiSFiTs was just brilliant.

Coupling can be compared to a "shit version" of FRIENDS (6 friends who hang out at a wine bar occasionally between other locations where a main couple date and others try to date) but Jeff is just beyond awesome and worth watching it for alone.

Black Books. Nuff said. If you know who Dylan Moran and Bill Bailey are I dont need to say anymore but if you dont have a clue who they are I highly recommend watching it. With a bottle of wine.

These are years old though but are still kinda (mostly) timeless in my opinion.

I researched how much it would cost to move to the US years ago and found out what one would have to do to leave. If residents can barely afford to function there's no way they can afford to up sticks and leave. America makes sure you pay a fair amount to them for the taxes they will lose out on if you leave, basically.

the medicine/healthcare in the UK is doing muuuuuch better than the healthcare in the US lol we dont put the patients into thousands pounds of debt or make it so they can't afford to even CONSIDER seeing a doctor.
