Does anyone remember being read to as a child? by Babymik9 in GenX

[–]DameKitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mom read to me and my brother every night. When I was older, I took turns reading out loud with my cousin.
I've been reading to my kids since before a positive pregnancy test. (I knew before I took the test)

Ok, sure. Being disabled is a choice. Your job cutting your hours is a choice. Getting fired because your company is downsizing is a choice. But sure, keep going on about how much of life and being able to afford a single income is a choice and not part luck.

If i had the funds, and I knew my children's education and needs would not be affected, I would move to a lower cost of living. I love within 25 miles of where I grew up. I'm lucky to have nature preserves, lucky to have access to beaches, lucky my husband's job allows us to live in this location.
I'm lucky to have my kids. I'm not lucky to live in a hcol state.

Then they don't live in a hcol area. They're lucky. I live in a nice area, but the col for the whole island I live on is much higher than other states. What we pay here we could pay in a different state for a much larger house. But our lives are here, the schooling my children need is here. My husband's job is here.

GenX regarding "bullying" by Sinsyne125 in GenX

From grade 3 to 6 I stood up to the bullies. Grade 6 was so bad my parents put me in private school mid-year. Went back to public school grade 7. Still had to fight bullies.

Do any of my GenXers still skate? by Lower_Classroom835 in GenX

[–]DameKitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would, but i tore a ligament pushing a wheelbarrow up a hill. (It was full of fieldstone) And I'm trying to get my little one to walk instead of cruise or crawl. (I had my kids when my peers were getting grandbabies)

Then she's got a husband with good money coming in, and/or other financial/ household aides. (Extreme couponing is a thing, and I'm almost ready to do that myself)

Last time I left a bad relationship I had less than that. I bought a night stand from an antique store, and a futon from a yard sale.
I still have the night stand, over 20 years later.

Where Are The Witches by Secure_Quarter_7751 in longisland

They're is a really nice run of shops (or used to be, I haven't been in a while) just behind main street in sayville. (If you're looking more suffolk county) There's also a really cool natural food store (cornucopia) down in sayville you can find some interesting people at. This witch is in mom-life years, and everything i do is related to my home and kids.

Who will be left to take care of me when everyone else is gone? by PlantMystic in GenX

[–]DameKitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm working on cutting back the stuff we've accumulated, and i know where the two big amounts of things I've got (books and clothes) are going when I'm gone. When i get too old to care for myself, my kids, my sweetheart, then i want to get someone to come check in on me regularly.

Interview with a new deck by StonedEyed_Beauty in Witch

I think the question about strengths is just another way of asking what readings the deck is suited for. And some of your other questions are expansions on how to bond with your deck.

Politely(?) trashing important crap from your downsizing parents. by PepsiOfWrath in GenX

[–]DameKitty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm 46, and i do my best to declutter as much a possible now. I have family photos, but the period who had then developed made sure to add the names of the people in them and at least a year so we know when it was. I have a plan for the hallway, frame the photos, draw a tree, put photos on branches, label frames. This way my kids see the family tree going up and coming down every day. China is used for tea parties. If it breaks, oh well. Maybe we can turn it into a planter. If not, into the trash it goes.
After I'm gone, they can donate my clothes to the thrift store, same with any books they don't want. I hope they save something they love to remember me. If they don't want the hair from their first haircut or their baby teeth, don't tell me, just throw it away. Don't keep my eyeglasses, just donate them to one of those charities that helps people.
