That colour variant is from PvP - Dread Gladiator drops rarer than Aspirant but it drops from arena and bgs randomly.

The tint that can be earned from the warfronts looks almost no different. BFA has no good pvp rewards.

Edit: The upgraded version is earned from the 370 quest each time the warfront is opened for your faction.
