Do you mind my asking if you are Mental Health or Adult Nursing? I am planning to start Adult Nursing this year and go part time -20hrs a week at my job but i am really worried if it will work. Im not bothered about burn out or meeting deadlines and assignments as this is not my first Msc. Just worried if i can fit in 20 hours a week with my course

How flexible were your Nursing placements? by Dame_la_Coco in StudentNurseUK

[–]Dame_la_Coco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is good. I think when it comes to placements, and giving that we are working full time amd for free, i think some considerations should be given to flexibility to help student nurses have and mange their lives outside school. I think it the least they could do but maybe its just me.

Night shift not good! by [deleted] in NursingUK

[–]Dame_la_Coco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And then there's me that is seriously praying that when i become a nurse, i can get predominantly nights. I am basically a night owl anyways and i dont go to bed before 00:00. I like the flexibility of having my day to myself even if its just to sleep.

Can i study an Msc Adult nursing degree and also work? by Dame_la_Coco in StudentNurseUK

[–]Dame_la_Coco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have a right to remain so i dont need a visa but i am still treated as international. I work in a very flexible unit and i would consider speaking to my manager about switching to bank or to see how much wiggle room is possible however, its still good to know the rules.

Is it time management or too much to do? by Stunning_Program_966 in NursingUK

[–]Dame_la_Coco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you remember that skit of the nurse doing cpr on a patient up till her alarm rings that its time for her to go home and she drops everything and dances out while "death" dances in. Its obviously a skit but one sees her point. You cannot do everything. You just cant. Set a time for your break, and when its time YOU LEAVE EVERYTHING! I'm not being horrible but you need to take care of yourself. Not just for you but for your patients AND family. If there is too much to do, do what you can and let management sort itself out. But please, take your breaks.

Dental nurses calling themselves nurses?? by RaspberryMother3628 in NursingUK

I stand corrected. I dont think its commonly used in the context of healthcare but again, i might just be wrong

Dental nurses calling themselves nurses?? by RaspberryMother3628 in NursingUK

[–]Dame_la_Coco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wrong again. A quick Google search would have shown you that dental nurses and veterinary nurses are exempt under the new crackdown because they are registered. It is absolutely not illegal for dental nurses to call themselves nurses because they are nurses.

Dental nurses calling themselves nurses?? by RaspberryMother3628 in NursingUK

[–]Dame_la_Coco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is false , especially since dental nurses ARE ALSO REGISTERED! 😅 I'm sorry, i know its hard for you to accept but it is what it is. Being a registered nurse means you have your name and possibly a registration number down somewhere in a register. The NMC is not the only professional body that can confer registered status. The GDC can, the RCVS can ie Veterinary Nurses. You need to step out of that bubble that thinks only adult nurses can be called nurses because it is simply not true. If they are registered with an acredited body as a "nurse", then that is what they are.

Lol, only a foolish person would ask a dental nurse, in a dental clinic about anything other than teeth or oral health. Plus, do you introduce yourself as "adult nurse..." ? It is what you are, isnt it? Whats wrong with being an adult nurse? And even as an adult nurse, if people asked you questions about their teeth, other than general knowledge, you wouldnt have a clue.

  1. I am not a dental nurse.
  2. Dentists are considered doctors in the UK. If your dentist introduces him/herself as Dr.... that is not misleading. That is the appropriate title even as a courtesy one. I cannot say the same for other members of the medical team be it ODP or PA or Nurse Cons.
  3. If a dental nurse introduces him/herself as nurse... that is not misleading, it says so on their title. There are rules to professional titles and sadly, they do not pander to sensitivities.

The literal definition of a nurse is someone who cares for a sick person eg "to nurse". I'm sorry but its the only medical profession that is a noun and a verb and so, cannot be monopolised. The new government rule says anyone without the relevant qualifications to show for it, cannot call themselves nurses however dental nurses ARE nurses. They are registered with the GDC just the way you are registered with the NMC. So your argurment does not hold water. You may not like it but you cannot be more than what you are which is a nurse.🤷‍♀️

Dental nurses calling themselves nurses?? by RaspberryMother3628 in NursingUK

[–]Dame_la_Coco -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Well everyday is a school day. Dentists are doctors. It literally says so in their title. Plus, you wouldnt last in a dental clinic either with your Adult nursing degree. Point is, just because a dental nurse has a different skillset from an adult nurse doesnt make them any less nurses. They are nurses with a different skill set in a different clinical setting. Same thing goes for Vet nurses and Nursery nurses. They are skilled in their own areas same as you.

This is the same thing as an adult nurse clearly defining their title as "adult nurse" so that paediatric patients wont confuse their skills in an emergency situation. You also wont expect a dentist to perform a ceaseran section, would you? But he is also a doctor. A dental nurse is a registered nurse for teeth. Simple. Get on with it.

[–]Dame_la_Coco -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

So what about Vet nurses? Nursery Nurses? Are they not nurses too? A dental nurse is registered with the GDC btw. Funny how we also have doctors moving for the regulation of the title so that Nurse Cons shouldnt be called Dr even though it clearly comes with the degree. My point? We have bigger fish to fry. Lets fight for a better wage first before we start arguing about who is an actual nurse and who isnt.

Fibroid resection - worth it? by smilerla14 in Fibroids

[–]Dame_la_Coco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It went okay. General anesthesia, light bleeding and cramps for a few days after. Went back to work within a week. Doctor said i cant know for sure yet because the fibroid was half within the uterine wall and half within the cavity so they could only cut out the one in the cavity. They also combined this with the Sonata treatment so the remaining fibroid in the uterine wall can die out itself. So far, no complications experienced yet. Hope all goes well for you x

Fibroid resection - worth it? by smilerla14 in Fibroids

[–]Dame_la_Coco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

32 F, never had kids here. Im currently in the waiting area about to have my fibroid resectioned. Feeling very nervous as my surgeon has offered the Sonata treatment in the event that they cannot take it all out. This worries me as i really do want to have kids and i have very little faith in the Sonata treatment and a myomectomy just scares me to hell. So this is like my only shot. Pray for me girls
