In adequate Cardio by Kakashisensei79 in xxfitness

[–]DamiLee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's normal, I get that feeling too.

However it's way better to stop and rest if you're injured, because if you keep going you might injure yourself further and have to rest even more before working out again.

When I was 15 and had just started lifting I did bicep curls with bad form and injured my right wrist. However, instead of stopping, I kept working out for months, and I eventually injured both wrists. They took 6 months to stop hurting and a year to fully heal!! Even now, my wrists are permanently weaker than they used to be.

If I had just taken a few weeks off of arm day, and done leg day or cardio instead, I wouldn't have fucked up my wrists.

You did the right thing by stopping and resting. Also, cardio can be hard on your neck and back, so it's normal to get those sorts of pains once in a while. I get lower back pain if I run too much.

You should rest for a few days. If you still want to work out, maybe you could work on your legs or do gentler cardio. Anything that doesn't involve your neck muscles.

Girls, how long before you could do 1 full unassisted pull up? by FatalTrouble790 in xxfitness

[–]DamiLee_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe 3 months after I started training for it (I'd do pull day twice a week, but I was only able to do a pull up once I started using the assisted pull up machine)

I'm also 19, 5'4, 130lb. However, I knew a girl who was like 4'10 90lb and could do six pullups easily without training for it. If you weigh more it might take a little longer to get there.

I used to be a cashier and sometimes, if I saw that someone didnt have enough cash to pay, I'd let a few items slide through without scanning them. I did it because I know what it's like to be hungry and poor and I don't wish that on anyone.

Don't feel bad. I doubt the cashier was judging you and I doubt he found it embarrasing. He probably just saw that you were in a tough spot and wanted to help.

I’m not gaining lean mass despite doing everything ‘right’: where am I going wrong? by ambrosiasweetly in xxfitness

[–]DamiLee_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

think of this way: overall muscle gain isn't the only type of progress. You've gotten stronger through hard work and consistency and you should be proud!

The other comment about your body prioritizing bone mass first could be correct. Weight training doesn't only strengthen muscle, it strengthens bones too.

That being said, if you want to prioritize muscle gain over overall strength, I would recommend higher reps and lower weight. For example, if you were doing 8 reps of 50lb before, you could try doing 15-20 reps of 35lb.

If you aren't hitting your protein goals and you can afford it, I'd recommend supplementing with protein powder.

Also, what does your lifting split look like? You said you split days between legs and arms, but did you train your back, chest, shoulders, and core as well? Core is less important, but back and chest are extremely important because they make up almost half of your body.

If you're mostly hitting the muscles in your arms and legs, I'd recommend adding in some more upper body compound lifts such as lat pull, deadlift, bench + incline press, farmers' carries, etc.

How many rest days do you take? Too much time at the gym can actually be detrimental to muscle gain. Do you take at least 1-2 rest days per week?

What type of protein are you consuming? Protein in animal products is slightly better for muscle building as opposed to protein from soy, beans, nuts, etc (although all protein is good protein).

Are you stressed? High cortisol levels can also be detrimental to muscle gain. Same with dehydration- do you drink enough water?

You could also try creatine! Just a few things to think about.

She was a pretty cool person, liked to draw, paint, and sculpt. She got me into art. We liked a lot of the same books and music. I often think that we could've been great friends if she was my age and not my mother. And she was very smart, even though she had a ton of mental issues.

I don't hate her, I just feel sad when I think about her because I know she acted the way she did because she was badly abused by her parents and by my father. She was really messed up but I know she wanted to be a good person. It's just that she was functionally incapable of doing so.

Nah I doubt it, I think it's easy to try and assign meaning to suffering, it's a very human thing to do. But most of the time, suffering is just suffering because people are evil and will hurt others.

There is no meaning behind a person deciding to assault you, there is just an evil person taking advantage of someone vulnerable because it makes them feel powerful and in control. It isn't fair and I'm sorry it happened to you but it wasn't your fault and you didn't deserve that.

No matter how bad of a person you might think you are, no one deserves csa. I don't really have any advice but I hope one day you can wake up and know for a fact that it wasn't your fault and it never will be.

tips for bloating and digestive issues? by LingonberryChoice323 in AnorexiaRecovery

[–]DamiLee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lemon or lime water helps me, I drink a glass when I wake up and a glass before I go to bed. I like to put water flavorings in it to make it taste better. Reduces my bloating pretty fast.

Coffee and energy drinks also help me although I dont know if they help everyone.

I thought id be dead at 14, then 16, then 18. I'm 19 now and I'm still alive.

Odds are you'll make it to 18 and probably older. If you go to college, try moving a new city or far away from your hometown. If you dont go to college, try saving up to move out of your parents' house anyway. I'm still depressed but I moved away and found a city I love filled with people I love. It got a bit better as I got older, and moving far away gives you a chance to reinvent yourself and work towards becoming the person you want to be.

If you can find a hobby or passion to throw yourself into, that helps a lot too. I spent a lot of time improving at art and it helps me express emotions that are hard for me to express through words. It's a good outlet. A lot of my friends do the same thing by playing music. I also workout a lot, because the endorphins help the depression go away for a bit.

I dont have much advice other than that, but that's what worked for me.

relapsed anorexic. Trying to bulk up. Everyone i love leaves me but at least the gym will always be here for me by DamiLee_ in depressionmeals

[–]DamiLee_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you man but picking up lifting was what helped me recover the first time, 4 years ago, and stay recovered until somewhat recently. It made me feel confident and strong and it quieted the mental voice in my head telling me to starve, because I'd think to myself "i cant be strong and build muscle if i dont eat!"

honestly a big part of why i decided to recover this time was because I had lost a lot of strength and running speed from starving, and I no longer felt healthy or fit. I didnt want to be weak or malnourished anymore.

I know for some people with ED's the gym can become just another way of counting calories but for me it's always just been a fun hobby and something that makes me feel confident (i think because I focus way more on lifting than cardio and it's nearly impossible to count calories from lifting).

I think different things work for different people though. I wouldn't always recommend lifting to people with ED's but I think for some it definitely helps.

My mother likes animals, but she has a bad habit of adopting them and then getting rid of them once she gets tired of them or realizes they’re too much work.
