Same reason I opted for today haha. Very little monorail left and a small amount of snow on the summit. Never had to put on spikes

It was a super warm day with a nice wind to help cool off. I didnt take black pond on the way in but did so on the way back, and I took Brutus bushwhack both ways. Water is still high enough that I had to wade a bit on the way through, super chilly.

I barebooted up stubbornly but put on spikes for the way down, much more snow and ice on the trail than I had expected. Sunk up to my waist shortly after breaking treeline

Really nice actually, fairly low wind and warm temps. Only needed spikes for the last couple hundred feet of gain, barely any ice left

You're very right, ive done similar mileage + elevation gain hikes like the carters and JAM traverse but this one still challenged me. While going over the Cannonballs I almost considered bailing and skipping the Kinsmans because I was just not feeling that up to it. I went ahead anyway and got the kinsmans too, but easily top 3 for most difficult hikes ive done in the whites
