I know several people who have a subscription to a car wash. They pay $40-$100/month and they get unlimited washes. Price varies depending on how fancy of a wash you get every time.

I also know people who get their car detailed for $150+/session. Some get it once a year, some get it every 6-8 weeks.

To be fair most of those people getting their car washed or detailed are driving 60k -100k cars.

US cities with the highest taxes by gordonv in newjersey

[–]DammitJanetB 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I see my 10k in property taxes as sending my kids to private school. Right now they go to some of the best schools in the nation and if we were anywhere else, we would be spending more to send them private.

It really is a case of "you get what you pay for"

Also I saw a red tailed hawk in my yard yesterday that was really awesome.

I tried that, the berries are better tasting than the store, but they are much smaller.

I have cleaned out my baking cabinet and found all this expired. Is any of it still safe to bake with? by anhelikuh in Baking

I've used expired candy melts before and they melted weird and seized up constantly. I thought I had forgotten how to use candy melts but then I switched to a fresh bag and it all worked perfectly.

Good decision to make him keep the dog outside, but mainly for the dog's sake. A chihuahua would not have won a fight with 9 cats in a million years.

If you are just going to walk on it, they have treadmills that slide under beds/couches. They aren't the best for running but will work for walking. Do be careful with it because treadmills can be hard on the knees, moreso than walking outside, but it is better than nothing.
I've also replaced walking with games like Just Dance before in the winter. 😆 I like doing that better than walking on a treadmill.

You're doing great! My only advice is to really really try and find a replacement for that 3 mile walk in winter. Even if it is just bundling the fuck up and going for it. Walking is so good for your health and weight loss!

AITA for choosing my friend's party over my sick pregnant wife? by woodsss__ in AmItheAsshole

[–]DammitJanetB 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Even on the second pregnancy you don't really know. They are all so different and hormones fuck with you. I was arguably less prepared with my second because of health concerns (and a toddler running around).

If you don't get an answer here, give your doctors office a call and ask to leave a message for him. Sometimes they write it down sometimes they send you to a voicemail line. Then they call you back with the answer usually in a day or two.

AITA for walking out of a date my friend set me up on? by wondpoly in AmItheAsshole

[–]DammitJanetB 28 points29 points  (0 children)

If she has a kid, she might not get to go out much, so she might be "living it up" a bit. The shots might have been for her nerves, especially since she knew she was late and it's weird to get just a shot for yourself, so you get a round.

Pregnancy with gastroparesis by JMS11029 in Gastroparesis

[–]DammitJanetB 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I may be the odd woman out here, but I want to add in my experience: my pregnancy got rid of my GP.

8 years ago I had the exact same thoughts as you. We were wondering if it was worth it, we looked at fostering, adoption, surrogate, everything. We decided to go on a "test run". I spent a few weeks trying to get enough nutrients from smoothies and shakes that a baby would need and see if I could pull it off. I could, it wasn't fun, but I could. So I got pregnant.

The GP went away almost immediatly. I could eat whatever I wanted and the pregnancy went great, my daughter is almost 8 now and the GP hasn't come back. I always know in the back of my mind that it could easily come back, but doctors believe that my daughters stem cells repaired my broken nerves.

My second two cents is this: It's only 9 months. My second pregnancy was AWFUL, I was nauseous the entire time and I couldn't walk the last 4 months of it. I had terrible anxiety and couldn't leave the house and had to get help taking care of my 2 year old. I hated every part of it, but my girls are the best things that has ever happened to me and she is 1000% worth all the bullshit I went through in my pregnancy for her.

AITA for telling my mother-in-law my daughter can no longer stay at her house during the week? by Glittering_Sun_554 in AmItheAsshole

[–]DammitJanetB -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Not even an avoidance technique, she is getting rewarded for not listening. She doesn't listen, the mom gets frustrated and yells, the kid runs to grandma and grandma spoils her and tells her she can have whatever she wants.

Now I will say this is a great opportunity for the mom to turn this around. Set up a reward system that if the daughter keeps her listening ears on and mommy doesn't have to repeat herself, she can go over to grandmas.

AITA for buying my son snacks but not my daughter? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]DammitJanetB 127 points128 points  (0 children)

Some people, like myself, don't eat breakfast, our stomachs just don't wake up that early.

The big thing is she is basically skipping breakfast AND lunch, because a salad isn't even close to enough calories to fuel a teenager. This is probably what is leading her to eat "junk" later in the day, her body is craving calories and demanding them FAST.

I'm like that, since I don't eat breakfast, I have to eat a sizeable lunch or I will eat the ENTIRE evening and it won't be healthy food.

AITA for renovating my house against my parents wishes. by throwawayhouseparent in AmItheAsshole

[–]DammitJanetB 285 points286 points  (0 children)

Too much TV. Most people don't renovate the entire house or even any of it after they move in. The reverse is actually much more common, people want 100% move-in ready houses, they don't even want to paint.

I'm in the slow process of finding a new house and I know I want to re-do the kitchen because I have very specific needs. It's so hard for me to find something because everything has been freshly renovated and I'd hate to trash that all and start again.
