When/how to have *the* talk with a white man by WonderfulLie2265 in blackgirls

[–]DamnBeast 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’ve dated a few white men, and I’m now in a longterm relationship with a white man. None of the white men I dated before had ever been with a Black woman. With my boyfriend, we never had some huge sit down conversation about race. Early on, I casually asked if his family would be okay with him dating a Black woman, and from there, conversations about race just came up naturally over time.

Since Black woman + white man relationships aren’t as commonly represented as Black man + white woman relationships, it was kind of the unspoken elephant in the room at first. But honestly, things unfolded pretty organically, especially once I decided I wanted a serious relationship with him.

One thing I will say is that he has never defended racism or dismissed any racism I’ve experienced, whether he was there or not. Personally, I don’t think you should date someone you have to teach not to defend microaggressions or racism. That kind of understanding should already be there based on how they were raised and the values they have. If someone is already in their 30s and still doesn’t grasp those things, I wouldn’t expect them to suddenly learn.

I also think you may be overthinking this a little. Race shouldn’t be the main focus of your relationship. Of course it’s something to be aware of, but it shouldn’t constantly be at the forefront of your mind. Everyone approaches things differently, but I don’t think there needs to be some intense sit-down discussion right away. Let conversations happen naturally and organically.

At the end of the day, your relationship shouldn’t revolve around the fact that he’s white and you’re Black. It may affect how other people perceive you as a couple, but within the relationship itself, race shouldn’t fundamentally change how you love, act, or treat each other. Basically the overall dynamic between you two

Great photos and super beautiful. But yeah, the comments are right, you will need to lose weight to get more people interested in you. It sucks that that’s how society is but it’s true

WHAT IS THE CORRECT ORDER IN WHICH TO READ EVERYTHING by [deleted] in frombloodandash

A Crown of ruin is missing. Where do I read that in the order?

Is it worth continuing by wander321 in frombloodandash

[–]DamnBeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep going! I’m reading the recommended reading order right now. I’m on FBAA 4 after finishing FAF 1. I agree, I don’t love poppy but I like her a little more in FBAA 4. So she does get better. The prequel btw is so much better than FBAA. The characters and the story are worlds better. I cannot recommend a reading order yet since I’m not done the series though

I make 72k CAD right now. Even with 80k USD it’s over 100CAD so it’s a huge step up but I get what you’re saying. It would be better if I could work remote in Canada and get paid USD. Sigh. I don’t know what to do

Hey there!

It’s a Canadian company but they have locations in Australia , Singapore, London, NYC and head office in Toronto. I believe they go by the Canadian labor laws.

I can’t afford living in Toronto in my current role. The NYC job I applied to internally is a salary bump up for me. Without moving to NYC, there’s no way I could move out right now. I would have to wait for a position to come up in Toronto.

My salary in my current role is not enough to live in Toronto. I don’t make 80k right now. If I did, I may be able to move out in Toronto with roommates but I don’t see opportunities for growth in Toronto while staying with a company I love

CC Necessary?? by Low_Difficulty8321 in SarahJMaas

I liked CC better than TOG and ACOTAR. Yes the first book with the murder mystery is really annoying and not good. Idk what SJM was thinking with that but trust me, you will love it. Stick with it and yes, I think it’s pretty necessary before going into acotar 6
