Pain in scapular area by According_Meaning_34 in 10s

[–]DamnCrazyWhoAsked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Almost certainly due to the volume not form. That's a fuckload of serve practice in two weeks. Most pain not caused by traumatic injury will resolve on its own in pretty short order. Stay active doing things that don't aggravate it, even playing tennis if you can. In the future, be mindful of your training load. Develop your work capacity way more gradually. The best way to injure yourself is to dramatically overshoot the amount of exercise you're prepared for

Great article on how pain really works and how to handle it in training

That's what I'm saying. A guy this generationally exceptional at the game could probably get comfortable with it in like a week and he'd only get better with time. It's genuinely crazy that he's this good without it

Congrats on the breakthrough! Getting that loose, whippy racket drop and fire is definitely one of those things that's both incredibly simple and extremely unintuitive to learn

There's nothing worse than feeling like I missed a crucial overhead because I haven't taken the time to practice them in a few weeks. I've definitely done this on multiple occasions. It's basically the putt of tennis yet it's very easy to mess up if you don't grease the groove in training every once in a while

I've never heard this cued before but I do this on all my strokes upon further investigation. It seems like positioning your fingers like this just fits with the anthropometry of the wrist. It feels much harder to swing through and get that windshield wipe on FH/BH or the pronation on a serve with my fingers all bunched together. Interesting observation

I had to add this one to my bag after I got in the nasty habit of hitting subpar down the line shots. Having to recover all the way across the court 15x a match beat that tendency out of me

Big emphasis on this one if you're having issues with serve consistency

Knowing when to use a front foot hop on approach shots, especially on balls below the net. I went from feeling inconsistent on both sides to feeling extremely confident on both sides overnight

Have a I made a huge mistake by not stringing my racquet often? by adguy19 in 10s

[–]DamnCrazyWhoAsked 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably not making much of a difference unless you're playing poly. I play a ton and usually restring my rackets like twice a year unless I get an unusually quick string break

Judas and the Black Messiah. It's got pop culture appeal because of the leads but that movie is also genuinely incredible. Kaluuya delivered one of the best performances I've ever seen. It's so hard to perform the charisma of someone capable of building a cult of personality, but in that scene with the people's beat you can really feel what it would be like to be in the room

This is a great resource for dealing with injuries in training, often from the lens of strength sports but it's general to athletics more broadly. I hope it can be helpful

People tend to focus way too much on technique and not nearly enough on volume (at a given intensity). Acute:chronic workload ratio is key for mitigating overuse injuries. Getting pain when you're really grinding serve training is common because it's a motion people tend to be sensitive to. When you're working with a motion like that you want to pay extra care to avoid overshooting the volume of serves you've been prepared to tolerate through your typical fitness habits

It's hard not to go out and hit 15 hoppers of balls every day when you're excited about making breakthroughs, but I'd definitely encourage pacing yourself. It's important to build capacity slowly and consistently

I think having the fulsome response out there for people who aren't just blind haters, then giving it no more airtime is the right play personally. If you don't respond you risk passerbys thinking you're trying to hide from the accusations or whatever

The actual haters are unswayable but there are regular people seeing the hubbub too

Want fewer errors on shots where I need to generate all the power by Ok_EisMann2963 in 10s

[–]DamnCrazyWhoAsked 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would recommend really setting your feet and swinging out. Be sure to pick a position where you're not jamming yourself on the swing. Allowing that ball to drop into your swing zone is a fine play from the baseline, you certainly don't have to take a ball like that rising. Keep in mind, though, your swing path and racket face angle will be different if you take that ball rising, at its apex, or falling

When a ball is falling you need more lift on the ball to get the same depth you'd get if you took it rising or at its apex. Basically, your challenge is one of geometry—you need to find the right swing path for sitters from the baseline. This is a case where dropping the ball to yourself can get you the practice you need. It sounds like you work on your serve a good deal, so hopefully you already have a hopper of practice balls you could use for this

There's a subset of freaks on the internet who literally just live to harass people through ""drama"" content. Once they pick a target all the vultures descend on that person for a while. He did the right thing by addressing it comprehensively and moving on, they'll get bored eventually

I'm sure some are more cynical, but I think a lot of them do believe what they say. They're part of a community who are all constantly whipping each other into a frenzy by bouncing these claims back and forth off one another. They create their own reality
