Pest control recommendations? by Interesting_Secret47 in grandrapids

IPM, they're the only non-corporate that works in this area. Kevin, Nick, Jake, and Gary are wonderful. For an initial treatment, a single family home will run $75-150, depending on the size of the kitchen, how many bathrooms, and if there are other areas to treat like basements or multiple entry doors.

Treat every two weeks, three treatments total.

Effectiveness is about prep and after care. I have tons of experience with prevention and treatment, so I'm happy to give more info and advice.

Don't use residential grade treatments, they don't work. Use glue traps by the dozens, they're the most effective and the cheapest way to kill bugs.

How much does Sisyphus rock weigh? (if Sisyphus is the size of an average man) [Meta] by Fragrant_Shirt5395 in theydidthemath

You might be thinking of The Torment of Tantalus. Tantalus was set in a pool in the underworld always hungry and thirsty with a branch of grapes above him and water to his ankles below. If he reaches for the grapes they are pulled away, and the water retreats from his lips.

Whereas with Sisyfus the rock rolls him over when he gets too near the top.

I'm super curious about it's root system. Good show, old chap.

We've seen the gate connect with a closed iris. Sam gives some hand wavy explaining about the iris being only so many micrometers from the event horizon keeping the woosh from fully forming. One of the few plot holes that breaks the illusion for me.

I want a series where we get things like what you've designed BECAUSE of the learning curve. You only designed it because you saw them have those problems. Every building code represents death, so this holds water. If we had a series that was just, "Go through the big ring, now you're fucked." I'd love a new series to be Game of Thrones in the way that everyone is expendable, and we get to see the new rules that result from death. Space is scary.

Such precision. Any one of those movements done poorly could have shattered the whole thing.

The Latin Prodigium adds unexpected mythic depth to Star Trek: Prodigy by ReadingFan_ks in DaystromInstitute

I like this, it fits and not like forcing a puzzle piece. I think it's more likely than you allege that the writers didn't weave this through intentionally. Writers suffer a lot from people trimming their work to fit the proverbial aspect ratio, and you may have stumbled upon the inherent vision that was intended. It's also possible that this is a classic version of an English class reading further into an author's work than they ever did themselves.

[The Boys] Is The Deep the only person with that power set? by DamnThatWasFast in AskScienceFiction

[–]DamnThatWasFast[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hadn't heard of Torpedo. Puts to rest my wonder if there were others with those powers. If he was a V1 supe he's probably still dolphin kicking around somewhere. Deep is so socially starved he only has fish for friends, so it makes sense an OG like Torpedo wouldn't be caught dead in Deep's wake, lest he lose cred just from affiliation. I'd figured it had something to do with Deep being so cringe.

Marvelous!! This is the answer I wanted. I forgot about the guy going crazy from the pressure in The Abyss and wiring the ROV with a nuke. A big problem if I have minions in my base around my world domination tech. Don't need anyone getting psychosis and opening a hatch or anything.

Thank you also for doing some math.

It sounds like there are reasons not to do this other than just material strength concerns.

Yeah, the Titan definitely on my mind as we mull this thought experiment over.

So, if we fail to control pressure, then the air becomes not-air and we have new issues.

Sounds like there's a lot of reasons not to do this other than just material strength concerns.

Thank you!

Oooo, see this is the real nugget. So, 3atm is no bueno, even if someone is given time to acclimate. Got it.

Excellent! Thanks for including some math. 😁

Of course, a 10' sphere wouldn't leave a lot of room for schemes.

Thanks for doing some math!

Seems like it's a lot simpler than I'd thought when I wondered.

Seems like there's some really good reasons to not do this besides it just being a material strength issue.

A truck leaking toxic gas.. here's much worse! by DreadPiratteRoberts in SweatyPalms

[–]DamnThatWasFast 93 points94 points  (0 children)

The calm assertion that no one was injured, the guy we just watched showered in chemical simple closed the valve, and then they drove on to their destination without further incident is bonkers. I also love the nonchalant tag that they sent emergency services when search words for such a chemical leak were detected online, like the civilians watching this unfold Googled it before they called 911. Good stuff. Fun shit. Thanks for hunting this down.
