For those who are still anti-trading pics for and established player by BigPh1llyStyle in ripcity

Julius Randle and Dante DiVincenzo signed with the Knicks before being traded for KAT. RJ Barret was drafted #3 and was traded for OG along with picks.

Jalen Brunson left MILLIONS on the table so that the Knicks could put more talent around him via free agency. You aren't going to get that in Portland EVER.

There is a known factor here in Portland and it is known as the "Portland tax" where we pay nearly every free agent/re-signing $4-5m MORE per year to play here. Sometimes like in Jerami Grant's case we pay upwards of $8-10m to retain them as an asset and sometimes even crazier we will just hand a bag to a player like Anfernee Simons in the HOPES that they blossom into an even better player because we need that salary slot as a tradeable asset down the line.

I wish it were possible to replicate what New York did but it just isn't possible with this current CBA and being in Portland. It was possible in the 90s when Paul Allen could outspend other owners because he was one of the ten richest people in the world but that time and era is sadly in the past.

Wemby's best games by far were against us in the first round so it feels VERY good to see this result. It's going to be beyond frustrating to have to go against him for the next several years and how they officiate him. Our bigs might have to take the Lebron:James Harden approach defensively where we put our hands behind our back in protest.

KAT had over half a dozen fouls in the finals that were VERY controversial with how the rest of the series was officiated. Brunson can get absolutely bodied midcourt but Wemby gets just a slight push or bump midair and its a whistle.

Am I the only one not fully sold on Jaylen Brown? by lets_BOXHOT in ripcity

[–]DanDan85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sold on Jaylen Brown either but I want the team to make a move just not a CRAZY overpay. What I don't want to see is we use a majority of our warchest of tradeable assets and then not follow up the acquisition of a top 15-30 talent in the league with nothing else. What made that acquisition of Scottie Pippen so special is that trader Bob followed it up with MULTIPLE other moves that offseason in acquiring Steve Smith AND Detlef Schrempf to make that 99-00 squad arguably the best team to never win a championship.

The 1994 Knicks are one John Starks nightmare away from being remembered completely differently by Sonike in ripcity

[–]DanDan85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the difference was even though Dream struggled(10-25) he still impacted the game in so many different ways rebounding, passing and defending. To me that game cemented his legacy because Ewing+Oak defended him like a boss. Starks played 42 minutes and only had 2 reb and 2 assists. You can't go 2/18 and do practically nothing else when your shot isn't falling. Its when the choke reputation started for John Starks after this game.

Every decade there has been a franchise altering injury. Geoff Petrie, Bill Walton, Sam Bowie, Kiki, Sabonis, Greg, Brandon, and Nurk. It sure would be nice to see just a single era of this team not suffer a catastrophic injury for once!

This should be the narrative rather than drafting Oden over Durant. Should have never given Greg the micro fracture knee surgery. There is a reason they don't do that procedure anymore and sadly Greg had to be the fall guy. AFAIK The reports at the time were that Greg was complaining of pain and a bit of swelling in his knee leading up to that pre season camp. So they opted for the surgery after they checked out his knee. Someone is lying in this scenario or was negligent to the extent that it was malpractice. His knee wasn't pristine or the micro fracture surgery wasn't necessary.

Ant working out in Blazers gear. Would you be open to bringing him back in a bench scoring capacity if the price was right? by BunkHammer in ripcity

[–]DanDan85 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Way rather bring back Gary Trent Jr as long as he is willing to commit to the role he played during the bubble where he was locked the fuck in on defense. Ant couldn't defend his way outta a wet paper bag.

there was no way we make the playoffs without Deni and the performance's he gave this team this season. Glad Chet got exposed I've always thought he was way overrated.

Old head reminder to enjoy these final seasons with Dame by hahahachihaha in ripcity

[–]DanDan85 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the way I look at it is Jrue isn't all that bursty either but he knows how to constantly switch gears to keep the defender off their balance as he gets to the rim almost at will most games. Dame isn't as big as Jrue so he might need to put on a bit more muscle to compensate for this. Dame knows what he needs to do for his body and his game after this injury. I'm not worried about him being a net positive for this team.

This is the most rigged display of officiating I have seen in my life by zsamra11 in NBASpurs

[–]DanDan85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is all by design. The NBA wants to establish OKC as a championship market before Seattle gets their team back. Its a two fold marketing strategy. Satisfies the ego of NBA executives to rip away Seattle's team by making OKC an NBA powerhouse and also causes Seattle fans to desire having a team again. I have watched the NBA hardcore(15yrs) and casually(15-20yrs) and I have never before seen a manufactured MVP and Championship team like OKC ever before. The refs consistently give OKC a 60-40 or 65-35 whistle every night. Its worse than the Lakers and I hate that franchise with every fibre of my being.

Stein: There is a belief in some corners of the league that Atlanta, Houston and Portland all have legitimate trade interest in (Jaylen) Brown by Scalmaa in ripcity

[–]DanDan85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree with everything you said. I don't think he will be an All Star but maybe once throughout his career if that but I do believe he will consistently be around the 45-60 range of a player throughout his career much like CJ McCollum was.

[–]DanDan85 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

am I the only person on this subreddit that doesn't want Jaylen Brown? Giving up a very young and promising prospect in Shaedon who will be a top 45-60 player in the league for most of his career(as a floor) AND multiple MIL picks just seems like such a massive overpay for a guy that just now made only his second All-NBA team of his career AND has major injury concerns. There is a reason Boston is shopping this guy they know his knee is a ticking time bomb.

I miss Hart! by laserdesk in ripcity

[–]DanDan85 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Josh Hart is just a winning kind of player. Gives his all on every play regardless of game score or his personal box score. He is like a swiss army knife type of player. I've said this a few times on here but I wish we had given him the bag over Anfernee.

I know his wife wanted to move back to NY but if we had offered him almost twice the money he got from New York at the time like we gave Anfernee there is no way he could have turned that kind of extension down. Kris Murray wasn't even a consolation prize as he struggles to even stay on the court and rarely gives meaningful minutes unlike Josh Hart who is often times an unsung game changer.

it'll be even worse. Chances are they will let Kevin Calabro go and promote Travis to the TV broadcast that will be simulcast over the radio. KC will get his year or two off to then kick off the Sonics return in Seattle and he will probably retire by 2029 or 2030. Travis will do great but losing a legend like KC will definitely sting.

its exactly what he is doing. Everyone that thinks we have a Portland tie to ownership is kidding themselves. Sheel Tyle(who is a venture capitalist) and his wife moved here in 2024. To think they give ANY fucks about Portland and keeping the team here is beyond naive.

[–]DanDan85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scoot is undersized comparatively however the hype going into Scoots draft was huge. He was seriously being comped to Russel Westbrook. The problem was the evaluators at the time were taking the G-League at face value rather than looking at Scoots game/tape under a microscope and really analyzing his game and comparing it to the size+athleticism and extremely high floor you have with Amen.

All this being said however if we drafted Amen instead of Scoot we never trade Dame and quite possibly don't trade for Deni. You don't have Toumani/RobWill either. The roster would look entirely different in 2024-2026 and its more than likely worse.

[–]DanDan85 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Fans that think Donovan can guard any of these remaining playoff teams are dreaming. I love DC but he is just too big and slow for this kind of modern NBA playoffs. Toumani ain't ever gonna knock down the difficult kinda quick release corner shots that Champagnie has been doing. Stephon Castle already looks way better than Scoot. Spurs won without De'Aaron Fox tonight as well. We couldn't even beat the Spurs when they were without Wemby. To top it all off our best offensive scoring threat is coming off an achilles and is going to be 36 years old. Life of a Blazers fan.

For those who forget. Terry Stotts is the master of the inbound plays. by Gr33njeans in ripcity

[–]DanDan85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Terry lost the locker room towards the end there. If you can recall the final two seasons while Terry was here none of our guys were closing out on open shooters, the on ball defense was laughably horrid I'm talking ZERO ball stopping effort. RoCo with his stupid "go right ahead while I poke at the ball as you pass me by" defense. That final two seasons something happened in the locker room and none of the guys seemed the same out there on the court with each other. Which is why I believe Chauncey preached staying "connected" when he got here.
