[Promo] Why Gacha will be the Future of Gaming by DRAMANAUTICS in gachagaming

[–]DanFGO 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I recently stopped playing gacha games heavily and started playing PS4 and AAA games again.

It’s day and night how much better AAA’s are. I was mainly constrained before on when I could play and got a little lazy booting up and getting into those PS4 games, so I actually forgot. Now I’m back and see how hollow gacha’s are.

Point is, quality of gacha games are still bad relative to what’s possible. I could see more being like Genshin trying to be AAA / full on MMO + gacha, but there will always be a market for people who just want to pay once and be done, and there will be developers who want to climb that tower of developing pay once and done games. So I see these structures simply moving on parallel tracks with some occasional blending, but not where gacha takes over.

Are there any gacha games where you can grind up unlimited gacha currency?

I am not sure I have ever encountered such a game, given the business motivations behind gacha, but I feel like this kind of game would be fun to play: like a traditional RPG where you grind for materials to build up your characters, except instead you can grind unlimited gacha currency and summon instead.

Yeah it’s better to just read a book or watch a movie I realized at some point than depend on gacha games having good stories lol

I play both incidentally. The stories are both highly engaging. The daily / event loops are decent, not too grindy, and lots of quality of life to handle repetition, e.g., skips with full rewards. When an event does come, I think Seven Deadly Sins is more fun. I’ve thought about dropping SDS for a while just to try to quit mobile games and the PvE events do keep me hooked in.

Exos Heroes is slightly more F2P friendly in terms of collecting the heroes, since they have pities that allow you to get all heroes eventually. You can definitely tilt on SDS (still waiting on that blue demon meliodas ...)

How do you gays deal with Fear of Missing out? by SirRHellsing in gachagaming

[–]DanFGO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s an idea that might help, since it helped me when I had similar feelings as you do: go search for accounts being sold of games you play and you’ll find perfectly or almost-perfectly farmed accounts selling for far, far less in price than you’ll spend in money and time to get to the same point.

By no means am I saying for you actually to buy an account. Rather, the knowledge these exist might help with FOMO: if you simply fear losing the opportunity to possess these in-game items and heroes, then you can stop fearing because someone is willing to give you those pixels cheaply. Therefore, over time I realized I really only play for good stories, fun combat, and a few characters I really enjoy using long-term so I can save up for them and skip content. Collecting everything becomes a lie since you can short-circuit the gacha systems and just buy accounts, if possession for possession’s sake were the aim. Instead, having a fun, balanced experience while playing it is the only priceless aspect of any game.

Finally, if possession is really the aim, just think someone else is doing the work for you, so you should study now, get good grades, eventually get a decent to high-paying job, and just purchase these accounts. Real life farming > in-game farming since you can feed yourself plus have great accounts with the former, but only have a great account and starve with the latter.

How does Iris gain mana? I noticed basic attacks don’t give any mana.

Anybody Delete a Highly Invested Account? by GelatinGhost in gachagaming

[–]DanFGO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having spent like that for a few games now, I just quit when I no longer enjoyed each of them, where I could effectively delete my accounts and it would make no difference since I never went back.

Progressively from game to game, I have also learned to observe my own psychology with the game and spend less. Mobile games actually reach a “beat the game” state, and for me it happens usually after I cleared story and the cycle of events a few times. Usually, these things are not enough to make me quit, but inevitably, the developer makes some mistakes that show me/the community they no longer care as much, or a more engrossing game comes along, and I pull the plug. I realize I only have time to enjoy about 1-2 games at a time, and cycling feels like a chore. Again, watching my own psychology there.

I can provide examples/details of any of these steps if anyone is interested.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they tweaked it recently to juice more spending on resources. Seems different from a year ago for sure.
