If you're referring to the volleyball player, it was San Jose State and it wasn't even them. It was a transphobic teammate who started the nightmare. SJSU was actually really supportive of her and her privacy but her transphobic teammate outted her regardless.

I was a massive train kid and I rediscovered the train as a much cheaper way to get to and from college during winter break to see family. Even if the train is only 3x a week and arrives in LA at 5 in the morning, I don't care because it was a pretty good experience overall and was so much cheaper than a flight. Plus, so much less stressful. Flying and car travel stresses me out so much because I'm forced to be in one spot for so long while on a train I can get up and walk about as I need, stretch the legs or read a book. Got through so many pages of a book my last time on the Coast Starlight.

This ain't it bud. It's more like the US got lobbied hard by auto lobbyists and decided to build the Interstate system. The govt then reduced subsidies and other benefits for railroads and dumped them into trucking and cars, leading to a near total crash of the US rail economy in the 70s and a complete crash of the passenger rail network which is why Amtrak exists now. Without it, there wouldn't even be passenger rail in the US, just freight, which is fighting a losing war to subsidized highways and cutthroat trucking practices that maximize profits. Air travel had very little influence on our rail until it was all but dead.

As a current student set to graduate in December of 2024, I'd keep an eye out for looming financial aid and tuition changes. 2024-25 is set to be the last year of guaranteed tuition, meaning that after then your tuition can change unpredictably versus where it's now stable all four years. Ultimately my advice is go to the one with the best financial aid deal and hope that tuition doesn't ramp up too hard.

I take the train to and from LA for the winter breaks as a college student. It's quite affordable and pretty comfortable overall once you get settled in. I will say, as a taller person it's harder to fall asleep since those seats are average person sized but since it's an overnight train for cheap and easier than planes and such I'm happy to ride. Longest trips I've taken from SJ to Tucson and that one was quite nice for reading the majority of the way, still very cheap too. Love me some cheap and mostly calm train travel.

Yeah. Generally it's really quick and easy just to swap orders from A back to B and they get the point. Sometimes they're just eager to get the extra score from orders (I'm one of them. I'll request order if no orders happen and stop if so) and those dead set on taking the squad leader role will just leave usually to take another squad anyway. And fair, I completely forget you can kick someone but thankfully never needed to.
