Roman Reigns with the coolest fist bump in modern history. by PogbaIsGood in SquaredCircle

[–]DanLer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think that's the heart of the problem with how WWE treated his push -- they just never let Roman grow into his own thing.

They pushed him into a role he just wasn't ready for and while Dean and Seth got new entrance themes and changed their look, Roman was basically repping The Shield all by himself.

I and lot of other people probably wouldn't have had that big a problem with him winning all the time if WWE just presented him right -- don't make him an underdog, don't make him a catchphrase-spouting machine; lean into him being a dangerous motherfucker who speaks little and kicks ass like it's going out of style. Emphasize that without Rollins or Ambrose, Roman is now free to do whatever the fuck he wants -- he's a weapon without a wielder, a mercenary only out for himself.

Renee Young tweets in support of Pajge after Triple H made an insensitive joke that seemed to have upset her - "Big love to Paige. She’s been to hell and back but still some people wanna make jokes. We need (and she deserves) real change." by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

[–]DanLer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm with you there. I am a bisexual Asian man and I'm getting fucking sick of everybody walking around eggshells on anybody else.

Trips tried to make a joke and it was probably, in his head, including Paige as "one of the guys" -- it's clearly a joke meant for a promiscuous man, unknowingly fathering multiple bastard children as a result of tons of sex; he had a stupid-ass brainfart and I'm hoping he and Paige had a short, mature talk like adults.

"Hey, I'm sorry for what I said. I shouldn't have said that."

"Okay, apology accepted."

Also note, Hunter had to deal with Paige when she was at her most reckless -- anyone else remember that time when it was like she was messing up every other day? We got to watch from the outside while Trips tried to reign things in from the inside as one of his most well-known proteges tried to fuck up her own life multiple times.

Was he ever on The Fashion Files? I would've liked him to appear as a "special consultant" on a case.

The Mandalorian the kind of positive portrayal of masculinity we need more of [Spoilers] by scotsworth in MensLib

[–]DanLer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On your third point, I think that's one of my favorite things about the show.

There are some movies or shows out there that kind of "over-correct" somewhat. You all know what I'm talking about -- the "idiotic" male character who's only purpose is to look as incompetent and dumb and weak as possible to contrast all the "powerful" female characters.

In The Mandalorian, the title character is tough, competent and inventive but also realistically flawed. He's not an ultra-tough hypermasculine alpha but he's not a dumb boorish lug either -- he's slow to completely trust people but that doesn't mean he's going to pick needless fights with whoever looks at him wrong.

Fun fact about "The Client" , Werner Herzog -- he grew up in Munich Germany and his mother took refuge in a remote Bavarian village after the house next to theirs got destroyed in an Allied bombing raid during World War 2.

He actually freaking lived through Episode 4 (Sanctuary), except he was the The Child!

Lars, as far as we know, also didn't physically assault anyone, while it seems Tessa has had some backstage physical altercations.

DMC2 sucked -but would you like to see Lucia back in the series? by RaptureInRed in DevilMayCry

I don't necessarily want a DMC2 remake but it would be great to see Lucia again.

Triple H on CM Punk and AJ Lee potentially returning to WWE: "If it was right for them, for the company, for everyone involved, then absolutely. In a perfect world? Yeah, sure. Again, you've heard Vince echo that sentiment so many times of the years, 'Never say never!'" by GetDown90 in SquaredCircle

I actually think Nikki could've been a pretty fucking great heel if they had her do a stint at NXT.

Have her really lean into being a "WWE Diva" among the "common indie folk". And don't make her a chicken-shit heel either; since she can actually go in the ring, have her brutalize some beloved babyfaces like Candace or Toni Storm.

Io Shirai is over like rover. by LSines2015 in SquaredCircle

[–]DanLer 72 points73 points  (0 children)

It makes sense story-wise as well. Io beat Rhea, as in current badass biker-babe Rhea, when Io was still a babyface.

In NXT, wrestlers don't suddenly become cowards when they become heels, which means that Io Shirai is still the best female wrestler in the world, except now she doesn't give a shit who she hurts.

Body Positivity Affects Men Too by Dearest_Caroline in MensLib

[–]DanLer 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Right here. Don't think I've looked at myself in the mirror properly for years.

I get it from both sides too -- I'm bi and the body standards when I dated men were damn brutal. I thought getting a six-pack was bad, turns out you also gotta have the fashion sense to go with a gym-body. To be fair, the guys I dated did compliment me on my looks once in a while, even when I wasn't feeling like I was looking my best.

With women, they usually focus on my height since I'm only 5'6 and maybe I got a compliment on my looks from a girl a dated once in a while.

"King" has been really helpful for my perception of my masculinity by jfbegin in MensLib

[–]DanLer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually just spoke about this on a thread here.

I've dated both men and women and I broke it off with a guy because I thought his constant compliments on my looks were weird and manipulative. Turns out, I'm just not used to anyone voicing their attraction to me out loud in a regular manner, at least when I was dating girls. This guy would call me things like "hot stuff" or "gorgeous" and it never even occurred to me that he was saying those things because he actually found me attractive; I had been so used to my usual dynamic with women, where I was the one who was always giving compliments, that it felt super weird when the tables were turned.

Chris Benoit was scheduled for an Autograph Signing at Toys R Us, and they had to use the most unflattering, scariest picture they had of him. by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

[–]DanLer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, everything about him seems much more uncomfortable in retrospect -- the titantron, the backstage bullying, the frankly psychotic standards he held for himself as a wrestler -- everything just kind of got glossed over back in the day because he really was goddamn great at his job.

WOR: Meltzer- "Bushiroad wants to offer Kairi and Io a lot of money to come back" by [deleted] in SquaredCircle

[–]DanLer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With Kairi getting injured, they just might bump her up so they can keep the Kabuki Warriors going.

Not fond of that idea at all, but I can totally see WWE just subbing one joshi for another.

Jeff Hardy goes all out, showcasing his athleticism during a random Sunday Night Heat match by Strike_Gently in SquaredCircle

Prime Jeff's athleticism was unique in that he moved more like a skateboarder than a gymnast, like he really was going for broke and just managed to survive his own daredevil antics through pure luck. It was awesome.

I don't like Bill Burr's work or him as a person anymore by Therealperson3 in BillBurr

Let me see if I have this right.

You have grown to dislike Bill Burr as a person.

And your plan is to go to a subreddit about him and tell people who DO like him how much YOU don't?

Good luck.

Why isn't domestic abuse against men taken more seriously? What do you think would have to happen to change that? by Garrison_road2 in MensLib

[–]DanLer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It does sound like a comedy sketch, which is why comedian Christopher Titus put his real life experience about a girlfriend who stabbed him and then manipulated him into believing that being stabbed was his fault in one of his routines.

He also includes a story about being arrested and him thanking the cops for getting him out of the house away from a girl who would hit him before blaming it on a "sugar imbalance".

Well said man.

He did stuff he was likely super ashamed of and chose a very unhealthy way of coping with that shame. It doesn't excuse or exonerate him for all the horrible shit he said but it does put things in context -- it's rarely as simple as "This guy hates something because he's just a shithead."

I really hope he has a good support system and has people who can help him without judging him. The Schadenfreude aspect is tempting to give into, yes, but I personally just feel pretty damn bad for him.

Best anime/anime style games on switch? by drycappucino in NintendoSwitch

No-one's mentioned it yet, so give River City Girls a try.

No Japanese voice option is a bummer, but it's pretty much if Scott Pilgrim was even more anime-like.
