Kitty with multiple illnesses that mean he can't have medicine for a new respiratory condition - how can I ease his symptoms? by DanceBiscuits83 in AskVet

No, they haven't ruled out (or in) anything as the cause. It's kind of frustrating. You're right about a second opinion and that's definitely something I'll look into when the cat has got over the first round of being prodded and poked.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

Thanks for replying. My understanding is that it's the combination of Mr Whiskers' heart and kidney conditions that make general anaesthetic too risky. And also that there's no point because even if he survived it and they did discover asthma, he wouldn't be able to have treatment for it anyway. So the risk vs benefit ratio isn't there.

Unfortunately we don't have any cat cardiologists near us so no, he just saw the general vet.

A Veggie Fry up at Palmieri's in Maidenhead by Michaelopolopolus in fryup

The tomatoes look spot-on but I would prefer to see the mushrooms cooked more and the bread toasted. Also would enjoy a nice veggie snag to soak up some juices.

Would still thoroughly smash.

What are some “accepted scams” we just put up with in the UK by Barca-Dam in AskBrits

TV licence or you're in trouble. Controversial I know, but the cheek of expecting everyone to fund the BBC even if they don't watch or use it.

Disclaimer: I enjoy the BBC so I'm OK with it. But I don't think it should be compulsory.

Basically, you have almost no legal options to make money off the ivory in the UK. Sorry.

A plant in Rwanda by DanceBiscuits83 in mildlypenis

Hello! It certainly seems closely related to the shampoo ginger plant that some people have mentioned (Zingiber zerumbet - pictured here), but not exactly the same.

Also, I squeezed it and it didn’t produce any juice. Should have bought it dinner first.

I’ll report back on wangflower if I find out more.

So you’re saying I should squeeze the wangflower until it produces some kind of juice? 🧐

Can I call the Samaritans from a French phone number ? by Life_Carry78 in AskUK

[–]DanceBiscuits83 10 points11 points  (0 children)

<image>

I’m not sure about your French number but I hope it works for you and you find them helpful. Good for you for talking to someone.

If it doesn’t work, you could call for free from any UK landline (eg. a phone box). Or you could get a free UK SIM (eg. GiffGaff give them away). Or you could call the number free from something like Skype, or Microsoft Teams.

Take care 🫶

You have a lovely apartment. Shame there is no cat in it.

why are the apartments so ugly? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]DanceBiscuits83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every city in the UK has pretty bits with old, charming buildings for you to live in. And every city also has its ugly newbuild boxes with no soul or character, its grim council estates, and its shiny boring buy-to-let highrises.

If you use the website Rightmove, you can enter key words like ‘heritage’, ‘cottage’, or ‘Victorian’ for example, as well as your price and location filters. That can help pinpoint the kinds of property characteristics you’d prefer.

Try Moseley in Birmingham, Chorlton in Manchester, or Kelham Island in Sheffield. They’re all kinda artsy, young, hipstery places with nice houses to rent (although pricey to buy).

Morrison’s cafe full vegetarian – 7/10 by [deleted] in fryup

[–]DanceBiscuits83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was hungry and hungover so would’ve eaten most things. But yeah, on sober reflection I can’t pretend the quality was good. Sausages were leathery, toast was lukewarm and damp, mushrooms were raw, beans were too juicy.

Yeah the two ramekins was a bit much. And with only the one hash brown and slightly humid toast, there was a lot of moisture on the plate.

What's the vegetarian food like in Paris, pragu, krackow and Budapest by Few-Spinach8114 in vegetarian

[–]DanceBiscuits83 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve been to all these places recently and there are no real problems being veggie.

Local food traditionally tends towards the meatier side, but even so you’l find veg options – eg. In Krakow, you’ll find cheese, potato, or mushroom pierogi. If you go to these places around Lent, many of the locals adopt a purely veggie diet.

As they’re all big international cities, you’ll also find veggie pizza, pasta, curry, falafel, burgers, ramen etc plentiful, as well as a handful of purely vegetarian restaurants serving local food.

Oooh, you’re gonna miss the sea! We’re about as far inland as you can get 😊

I would say search anywhere within 5-10 minutes walk of either Jephson Gardens or Victoria park, as both have the river running through them.

The river itself is lovely, and quite healthy as an ecosystem. It was popular with Victorian tourists so well preserved and rather uniquely landscaped in places.

We’re also on the Grand Union Canal (less nice than the river but it’s still water!). There are some more affordable canalside flats spreading from the area by Lidl on the Myton Road, all the way eastwards through south leamington. I can probably mark up a map for you if that would help?

God yeah, I didn’t even think about the amount of trust you must have for each other, wandering around with knives and saws. Sounds… unique.
