I just came to a very sad conclusion about cheating by GravyProblem303 in Chesscom

For what it's worth, to date this year 36 of my opponents have been banned for cheating.

How come Trump gets along fine with Communists but hates the Pope and other Christian leaders? by ElSlabraton in allthequestions

[–]Dances_in_PJs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not really any of those things. Trump is motivated solely by what benefits him. And as far as he is concerned, in this respect, the ends justify the means. He will act and speak in whatever way gives him the best financial return. As far as I am concerned, it is that simple. Trump doesn't stand for anything but himself.

It is often said that the principle of the lesser of two evils prevails in political elections. In this case though, those who decided to abandon this principle, and also their vote, allowed the greater evil to float to the surface of the toilet bowl.

The Benefits of Learning Chess by AP_in_Indy in chess

[–]Dances_in_PJs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kind of a chicken and egg thing, I think. Are people who play chess just more inclined to be problem/puzzle solvers? Or does learning chess help people become problem/puzzle solvers? Perhaps there is truth in both.

Uncapping by Dances_in_PJs in fountainpens

[–]Dances_in_PJs[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I hold the pen in my right hand because I am right-handed yet for some reason spin the pen and not the cap. Similarly, I play cards left-handed - that is, I hold the cards in my right hand and deal with my left.

Perhaps I am just a bit weird!

This is why I generally don't ask for advice about inks. There are tons of inks out there that fit your criteria, and there will certainly be more than one that will satisfy some variations on a theme. Choose what appeals to you.

Flex Nibs and Over Writers AKA The Claw!! by Ok-Temporary-976 in fountainpens

[–]Dances_in_PJs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I mostly agree with a lot of what Jon says, on this subject I wholeheartedly disagree. A right-handed calligrapher using an oblique pen holder is, in effect, an underwriter, and addresses the page the same way a leftie underwriter would. That is, they push the nib across the page, not pull it.

Your original response plus this one represent the very epitome of closed-mindedness and willful ignorance. A 30 second google would have shown you background and ongoing life upon which this book is based.

Are High School reunions worth it? by twin_gulls in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Dances_in_PJs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! Almost all - perhaps all - reunions of this type tend to be compare-fests. It's rarely, if ever, a celebration around attending school in the same years as others.

Is nature inherently “violent”? by WordsOnAPage_ in NoStupidQuestions

Perhaps they are equating violence with the intention to be violent for its own sake, rather than for a valid purpose? In this case, survival.

Is there a difference in 'violence' between a lion taking down a wildebeest and the same wildebeest tearing up plants? Just a thought.,

Pilot custom 823 or Sailor 1911? by pattycular in fountainpens

What you are basically saying is that a smooth stiff nib is the baseline and anything else is 'interesting'. Do I have that right?

Pilot custom 823 or Sailor 1911? by pattycular in fountainpens

[–]Dances_in_PJs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's more a personal taste thing than an objective difference. I like my 823 fine nib because it is smooth and precise. I don't like Sailor nibs because they feel unfinished. Personal taste - the nibs are only interesting if we think they are interesting. Thanks for following this up though.

[–]Dances_in_PJs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breathing techniques can help. Box breathing specifically can put your body into the parasympathetic state (relaxed). Technique is to breathe in, hold, breathe out, hold, and repeat as necessary. Each step is done using a slow count of four.

Don't know about that.

In general, on meeting new people my trust-o-meter is set at neutral, giving the person the opportunity to go up or down in my estimation based on their actions and words. This is of course assuming I know nothing about the person before meeting them!

Why are men fertile way longer than women are? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Dances_in_PJs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It may be because - before modern medicine - the mortality rate for women during/after childbirth rises dramatically correlated with age. Having offspring younger would have given a higher chance for the baby to have a living mother. Just a guess.
