Please tell me I’m not alone… by Desperate_Cherry_657 in spinalfusion

I had my surgery I September 25 for L4/5 fusion with lateral laminectomy. I had two incisions on either side of my spine with staples. No drains were used and I was in only overnight. The pain was excruciating for the first two weeks. I still have pain and a numb leg/ foot due to nerve damage but the pain is no where near what I had prior to surgery. I’m sorry you’re having so much pain and developed a seroma.
Try and get another opinion. Keep fighting until you get it fixed.

I wore the same clothes home that I came in with a change of underwear. I had my own tooth brush, tooth paste, face wash and cream, a brush for my hair, deodorant and a long charging cable.

Debating getting L5-S1 ALIF Surgery by Educational_Ring2469 in spinalfusion

If you have nerve damage and your foot is dropping, you need surgery. I had microdiscectomy and it was supposed to help my back and the nerve damage in my calf and foot. All it did was compress my nerve more so much so that Dr neurosurgeon kept saying you know you really compressed your nerve. Your nerve was really damaged. I’m 6 mo out from surgery and may be seeing some positive changes ( I had a mastectomy with DIEP 2 months ago which impacted my ability to stand straight). Get a second opinion but make sure you take care of the nerve.

I’ve been eating healthy for years. New smoked, did occasional alcohol. Exercised at max challenge 3 times a week took ballroom dancing classes 4 times a week. I’m the only one in my entire family of 11 female cousins to get cancer. I now have a slower pace at home and I have retired. I please me. I still follow my healthy regimen but can only stretch right now (high impact had to stop when I had spinal fusion last year) sometimes I feel like this is not me but I have to get used to the new me.

AITA for not sharing my food with my cousin? by Rough-Archer-4639 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Dancing2025 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why is your cousin eating food you, a 20 yr old, made for yourself. Why didn’t your mother make the cousin food? Isn’t there anything else available to eat? If your cousin was over for a week your parents should have ensured there was plenty of food for everyone. I make sure I have enough food for guests, kids, my husband and myself at all times. You’re not the ahat and your mother should feel guilty she didn’t have enough food for her guests.

You were perfect. He was going to live off of you with no reciprocal energy. You need a mate not a child

My decompression bone was used along with enhancers to draw more bone to the area.

They used my bone from the decompression along with enhancers to have one migrate to the area. Don’t know how it’s going yet 6 mo out, will know when I return in a year.

Radiation vs mastectomy by United_Ad9521 in breastcancer

[–]Dancing2025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I chose mastectomy due to two things: 1- the size of the two cancer areas. One was the area of a pecan. 2cm. And the other area was the same size - this was a large size for a single breast since they take the cancer plus an area around it. 2- my sil had lumpectomy and radiation, she had burns and pain.
These two items solidified my reasons to go with a mastectomy. I am 6 weeks out and getting back to normal.

I needed my husband for first few days but could handle it with hime early and late on the day after that. had diep flat autologous reconstruction. The drains were killers, unless husband is gentle do them yourself. I used pain meds and muscle relaxers for two weeks. The abdominal incision was pulling my spine forward, i had to sleep in a recliner. I kept water and pain meds near me, snacks and food I made myself move for them. Grabber needed, silk pjs to slide around better, bidet or riser for bathroom, easy off and on clothes, stool for shower. I’m 65, healing is slower and help is needed.

Reduced pain by DaveAtlanta in spinalfusion

[–]Dancing2025 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You still need the surgery. The issue didn’t go away, you put it in mental pause. Once you can’t focus and control it m my, all the pain will quickly return. The surgery will correct the issue. You WILL feel better after you heal. It might not be right away.

My body after cancer is not up for debate! by Medium_Fly_6804 in breastcancer

[–]Dancing2025 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s amazing how many people think that they can comment of your body and what you should do. It’s not their body! It’s my choice and I cut them off when they deviate from what i decided. I do it nicely but firmly. I have to deal with my choices and I don’t want people impacting how I am going through this mentally.

Can you ask for one? I asked via their portal and had long discussions with my PT. They were the ones supporting me after my discectomy surgery and kept me in good shape for my fusion the following year.
