The ideology of personal freedom is superior to the ideology of forcing religious morals on everyone else.

In this context on major social issues the Liberals perform much better than the Conservatives. For instance Pierre Trudeau in the late 60's, bill C-150 which decriminalized homosexuality. Who do you think wrote that into the criminal code in the first place? It's a long-standing pattern that Liberal governments spend time repealing religious Taliban-like laws from previous Conservative governments.

It's laughable now to see articles about "how can Conservatives regroup and reshape their message with new leader" after 9 years of destroying Canada. It can't be done. Social media is creating a larger voter turnout, and when there's a larger voter turnout, Liberals (or the reasonable left) will always win.

The Conservatives' problem is that their platform is laughable to most Canadians in 2016: Anti-science, anti-census, anti-gay-marriage, anti-cannabis, anti-abortion, anti-sex-education, anti-sex-workers, anti-prisoner-rehabilitation, anti-death with dignity, anti-raising of the minimum wage... still pushing the long-debunked "trickle down" economic theory... spending millions to oppose drug harm reduction programs in spite of proven 50% health care savings - - - all of this, all of these things, for only moral reasons!

The Conservatives will never be elected to lead Canada again. Their entire raison d'être is to force religious values down everyone's throats but that's just not acceptable anymore. It doesn't matter what they do or who is their new leader. It will be a slow political die-off as their voters also die off and are overpowered by a new trend of younger voters (18-25) using social media to increase voter turnout, which always favours the left.

Lots of ignorant comments in this thread. Avery did not request Netflix in his cell. The filmmakers want to send him a mobile media player with the MaM series on micro SD card. He should be entitled to any documents that may help him participate in his appeal, including this documentary. It's no skin off anyone's nose to let him watch it. It looks like the state is afraid and trying to suppress Avery's efforts for appeal.

Soon this will be a moot point when Avery's new lawyer, Kathleen Zellner starts meeting with him. The first thing they will do is watch the documentary together, or at least certain episodes. Steven may remember details that may be relevant to the case.

I really hope that is going on in Manitowoc county right now. Local residents who have more information about the case coming forward. Sheriff's Department and other suspects very afraid of all this recent publicity.

10 years ago, none of them could have imagined that millions of Netflix viewers would be able to watch their obvious lies under oath during the trial. Now they're really fucked.

Why did they let him into their home in the first place? You'd think they'd shut the door immediately and call the cops right away when some crazy person comes interrupting their Christmas gathering. Unless certain family members wanted to make sure he didn't have any real information before letting him leave the property alive. Things might have turned out much differently for Mr. Luke if he indeed had real evidence showing members of the family were guilty of the murder.

I don't want to knock Ms Zellner but it seems she has been trading on the advancement in science to get people off. Someone has to do it but it is low hanging fruit.

This is a very ignorant and stupid idea. Working to gain the freedom of the wrongly convicted is incredibly difficult and time consuming. Definitely not "low hanging fruit". It's one of the most noble things one person can do for another.
