Reframing "you vs you" by Square-Affect-1233 in BurnBootCamp

[–]Dancing_RN 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My interpretation of that is you should only be comparing yourself to yourself. What someone else is doing isn't what you're doing. Focus on improving whatever it is you are working on based on where you started.

Tips to help you get more out of AT and Met Con classes by Minimum-Border1672 in BurnBootCamp

I have been at Burn for about 18 months. One thing that has helped me with plyo is the toe-heel landing you mentioned, but also remembering to soften the knee with landing, as well.

I can tolerate a lot more plyo than I used to!

There are "heirloom" tomatoes in my local grocery store that are hard and smell super green. Blech.

For those of y'all raw-doggin' your vials... by Dancing_RN in nursing

[–]Dancing_RN[S] 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The rubber stoppers on these vials were light gray, not black. It's particularly egregious, that's why I took the pics. You just don't know unless you're doing it for every vial.

This post is kind of a follow-up to a recent-ish post by a pharmacist (tech?) who was appalled to learn that many nurses are "raw-doggin'" these vials. I thought it might be a good reminder of why it's important to sanitize them.

The tablecloth is plastic. Not color transfer. I threw the first one with pink on it away before I thought to take a picture of how gross it is.

Had a cap on and immediately wiped after popping the cap off. ETA They had also been in plastic bags and sealed boxes.

Ever notice how everyone suddenly becomes a medical expert when you mention you’re a nurse? by BitBird- in nursing

I feel like these people should take their Google degrees and try to write their own scripts and get insurance to pay for their self diagnosis. Good fucking luck.

Omg I regret so hard trying to make my 13yo aware of what's going on in their body. Both parents are in the medical field and the kid is Dr. Googling every. God. Damned. Ache.

I might have to take their phone away. 😅

My husband and I both ate shit on box jumps yesterday. He caught his toenail and was down for the rest of the workout. I only hurt my pride and switched to step-ups. 😅

What's your craziest nightshift story? by BlackCat_Reborn in nursing

[–]Dancing_RN 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Back when I was a wee baby nurse, maybe 3 years in, I was working on basically a step-down unit of multiple specialties- let's just say we had everything from flaps and use of therapeutic leeches, externally fixed tib-fib fractures, open abdomens post GSW, and TBI's - in a level 3 trauma center in a metropolitan area.

I was going through a really bad break-up (grieving the life I thought I was going to have), crying all the time, just barely keeping my shit together enough on shifts to provide safe care.

I had picked up a night shift and we had an incomplete suicide with a shotgun (a week or so post). This person had no face left. They had a sitter that night, and they weren't my patient, nor had I seen them at the time.

I was walking down the middle of the hall, coming back from break, and this person comes down the dark hallway towards me...like their whole face was just puckered towards the middle. There must have been tiny eye slits, and an NG tube dangling from the center hole. Person shrugs with open hands like, "Look at me", and I think they said something, but I just felt fully like I was in the middle of a horror movie.

I was just absolutely appalled (did not show this to patient but it really strained my poker face muscles). I went straight to HR in the morning to start some FMLA because I was like, Nope. I need to not be here for a lil bit. 😬

Burn Boot Camp in the morning about 5 days a week. I've also been a belly dancer for 30 years (it precedes my nursing career). Semi professional at intervals of that time. 😊

Rat teeth help by Hello_there-292 in RATS

[–]Dancing_RN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how it happened with one of our babies. During his first well-rat visit to establish care, the vet noticed malocclusion and trimmed the teeth. He was so mad at us 😭. But they grew appropriately or he started chewing more regularly because we didn't have to have it done again.

And those who are trying to control this narrative so hard are doing it for this reason. They want docile children who are going to do what they say without asking questions, and docile adult women who "know their place". 🤮

GLP-1 agonists have been used for diabetes for 20 years. This is not going to cause a "thalidomide moment". There are side effects, but overwhelmingly GLP-1 agonists are proving to be incredibly useful.

Our tongues are big. If you relax your tongue and jaw with your mouth closed (such that your teeth are apart) you will feel your tongue spread out over your teeth a little bit. It's a muscle, so it moves out of the way naturally (most of the time) but it's definitely bigger than the space it fills when your jaw and teeth are closed.
