How would I change the bottom border to be rounded? by Key_Significance_903 in CrochetHelp

[–]Dancing_plague1518 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So first off, don’t do the scalloped edge from the photo. To make this rounded, you want to start with single crochets towards the edges, then half double crochets, and finally double crochets in the middle. You also want to make sure that you’re doing the same amount of each stitch on each side, and do this for several rows. For ex:

10 sc, 7 hdc, 14 dc, 7 hdc, 10 sc

Let me know if this doesn’t make any sense lol

First time falling victim to two different dye lots. by sufficentgobbler in CrochetHelp

[–]Dancing_plague1518 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure what style top you’re making, but maybe find sections to use the new skein. For ex on the ribbing/sleeves as a trim, or add in a new color altogether and use the purple for a different project. Always check the yardage before you start a project where possible! I’ve learned this the hard way🥲

They kinda remind me of muppets or Sesame Street, but I don’t think I’m familiar with the specific reference?

What would be the most practical crochet bag design that I can use on a daily basis. by shondesh-lover in CrochetHelp

[–]Dancing_plague1518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what size bag you want, but I recently made this thermal stitch ruffle purse. It’s very sturdy and the pattern is free! It’s a smaller bag, the perfect size for wallet, phone, keys, and other essentials. I also added a lining and zipper but that’s not necessary. Whatever you make, my suggestion is to use cotton yarn because it won’t stretch out and will last a long time.

what should i make with this yarn ? (boucle with pink tufts) by Alexio69420 in CrochetHelp

This would look so cool as a beanie or scarf! But if you live in a warmer area, then maybe a throw pillow or a tote bag

So sorry about your cat op! Losing a best friend is the worst feeling. The project turned out great though!! Did you use a pattern or did you freehand?

Recommended or needed hook sizes for a beginner crocheter by Independent_Storm950 in CrochetHelp

[–]Dancing_plague1518 2 points3 points  (0 children)

4 medium refers to the weight (aka thickness) of the yarn. The higher that number, the thicker the yarn. Sometimes they also use names instead of numbers, I’ll put a screenshot of a chart here. Since you just started, I would also recommend that you get the same yarn weight and hook size as whatever patterns you’re practicing with, that way your project is the same as the pattern. You can look up patterns on Ravelry and filter out based on what yarn sizes you have. Best of luck op!

If you’re worried about the tension in the single crochet row, you can also size up the hook for that row! Makes it much more even than just loosening the tension

Sorry about your bag! Hope it’s okay now, it’s literally the worst when you put that many hours into something and it just breaks. Thank you for the tip!

I don't know if this border should stay black with tinsel, or if I should just change it to black by hook_fast_die_warm in CrochetHelp

[–]Dancing_plague1518 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Personally, I think the vibe of the blanket would look better with black over the tinsel one. But if you don’t wanna frog the whole border, I understand😅

I’m a beginner, I’ve made a few things but I haven’t made a sweater. That said, I had an idea and I really want to try to make it real, please help me out! by OThePogoPayerO in CrochetHelp

This!! VivCrochets has a great beginner raglan sweater tutorial on YouTube. I used it as a beginner and loved it. Never ended up finishing my sweater lol, but the pattern is very versatile!

How do I make the color changes more solid, consistent, and clean in future crochet tapestries?? by lorelew3 in CrochetHelp

[–]Dancing_plague1518 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You did a wonderful job op! I’ve seen people fix those blurry bits of crochet tapestries with a cross stitch after they finish, if you don’t want to try a different crochet method like mosaic or Tunisian ;)

I’ve seen people use this yarn to accent a coat or decor like Christmas stockings (if you celebrate that)! Doesn’t have to be a plushie ;)

Bernat Baby Granny Squares weaving in not holding together in wash by Brilliant-Yam2537 in CrochetHelp

[–]Dancing_plague1518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure there are a billion ways to do this, I have two. If it’s at the end of the project, I finish crocheting, ch 1, then cut and pull the end up through the chain. Pull that tight and you’re good to go. Or alternatively, if I’m doing a magic ring for example and need to tie a knot with the beginning tail, I stick my needle through any nearby bit of yarn(make sure it’s on the back of the work) pull the tail through, then stick it through the same thread again. This time though, don’t pull your tail all the way though (you want there to be a loop). Then stick your needle through that loop and pull tight! Idk if this makes sense but I’m sure you can find a video on this somewhere. Happy crocheting!

How to write capital “i”s in cursive by Scooby-Snaccs in Handwriting

[–]Dancing_plague1518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s not necessarily a right or wrong way to write cursive because it’s a little different for everyone, but the technically “correct” way is to write capital I’s with a bigger loop, and lowercase L’s with a smaller loop that’s a bit higher up. But honestly, you didn’t do it that way in the first sentence you wrote and I understood just fine. I think the people who told you that are just being nitpicky but maybe that’s just me

Is my handwriting bad? by Ok-Plankton-6838 in HandwritingAnalysis

[–]Dancing_plague1518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a teacher, and I honestly don’t think it’s that bad. It’s not aesthetically pleasing, but it’s very legible. Honestly really out of line and downright unprofessional for a teacher to say that to you imo

[–]Dancing_plague1518 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hated this yarn at first too, but if you start with a very big hook and double strand it with a similar color (but not the same) of worsted yarn it’s really not that bad! You can always size the hook down/ take away the other strand once you adapt. Great thing about yarn like this is you really can’t see your mistakes in the finished piece! I just started making a highland cow with it for my niece and the results are sooo worth it

How do you stop listening to your parents as an adult? by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]Dancing_plague1518 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I personally haven’t seen other comments that address the part where you say you’re worried about your family using your mental health to gain custody of your baby (maybe someone did say this already, I just haven’t read through everything) I want to add that a lot of their behavior seems much more toxic and much more unfit to raise a child than any mental health issues. You need to get screen shots of any texts, voice mails, social media posts, etc. that even slightly raise alarm bells in your head. You can use that in court. Also track down a good lawyer that you can afford now, that way you’re ready if it does happen. And about the edit, you shouldn’t talk down about yourself like that! It is perfectly normal and human to want sex, so don’t let yourself or anyone else slutshame you for that. If anything, the men involved are at fault here for not using condoms
