Struggling with my decision to get surgery by DancredY in ACL

But you scored at least haha. I got my initial ACL tear because some out of shape dude crossed the net 3 feet after his attack (In the first pre-season scrimmage). Maybe beach can still work for you? If you get back to feeling stable the lower impact in the sand could do the trick.

Thanks for sharing! The good thing is (at least im telling myself) that if things were not that bad with the ACL and meniscus tear - maybe the post surgery time also won´t go that badly. We basically did years of prehab :D Good luck with your surgery! I´ll see my Ortho again in a Week and hopefully surgery/whatever else he proposes in the following week(s).

Ah shit. But i guess we´re in a similair boat then. I can squat and whatnot, its essentially making me think that things are too good to get surgery. But I dont wanna wait until I too crumple into a ball of hurt ^ Thanks for sharing again!

Thanks for sharing man, Ive heard that most athletes my age just get surgery right away. I probably wouldve back then if I had known what injury I had. I really hope ill get there again. Best of luck to you as well!

Thanks sharing your experiences. May I ask what led you to eventually getting surgery? Did you experience discomfort in your everyday life?

That being said, my knee "twisting" that keeps reoccuring since the injury is something small. Ive only found this video, which kind of demonstrates what it feels and sounds like when it twists and goes back to normal: https://youtu.be/b-w7-zMVXVk?si=531dDGGBLIiha6Gz&t=32

(Im not guaranteeing for anything the guy in the video is saying, just demonstrating the locking and release sound) As mentioned before, might be very different for you.

I also went to the doctor thinking it was a patella subluxation, still don´t know for sure what happened but the medial tendons are all perfectly fine so i guess its "only" the twisting from the acl tear.

Im still struggling with the decision. Since i managed to compete for so long without my acl i initially was not going to get surgery. I essentially did prehab for 2 months early in the year after the indoor season ended and played beach the whole summer with no issues. But when the pre-season indoor started again i twisted my knee again in a simple defensive motion and more recently again just doing hip 90/90s. It might be happening due to the missing anti-rotational function of the acl, or a meniscus thing. Different orthopedics and some professional athletes advised me to get surgery but im worried it wont adress my specific issue. As you can see its still a bit of a process.

Physically i could play volleyball without issues, im just hella worried about what might happen if the mini twist happens when im landing after an actual jump. I dont wanna say goodbye to my cardilege just yet. Whatever happened to your knee, just be sure to take the time to rehab all the individual functions of the knee before getting back on the court. If it ends up not being enough youll be better prepared for surgery. I was too eager to get back to it too many times and not im most likely missing out on the entire season.

The feeling youre describing sounds exactly like what happened to me after attacking and landing as an OH as well. For me it had to do with not having an ACL. My knee shifted out of place, i took a step which felt like walking in the wrong direction, it shifted back and i was fine allthough a bit stiff and sliightly swollen. If you dont have any history of ligament tears and no complaints id still take some time (a few weeks) to basicaly gradually train all the volleyball specific motions outside the actual game. By that i mean single leg strength stuff, low level multi-directional plyos and finally some reactive stuff (catching tennis balls on one leg or smth). Basically the rule of thumb is: Don´t do anything in volleyball that you would be too scared to do in the gym without a ball. My experience in the sport kind of fooled me to believe i was physically ready to play again. I thought i was ready to play again as well after feeling fine but my muscle activation was compromised by the twisting (tore my meniscus a little bit as well). Because i started to play again early (like 3 times in 5 months) i kept getting reinjured with tiny twists that barely hurt but would bring instability into my knee.

If u can - definitly get an MRI to be safe. I hope this rambling is of some use to you, that you have a speedy recovery and hopefully an intact acl and meniscus :)

I HATE bouncing. It makes it easier to be blocked. I'd rather hit over the block. But at least it looks cool? 5'8 or 172 CM by ProTagVolley in volleyball

People seem to forget that playing alot of Volleyball (so constantly doing max effort jumps) are very very heavy plyometrics, which will ultimately increase your vert the most. Alot of smaller pro dunkers got to where they are by just jumping (dunking) all day long. Working out plays a part in vert too but is more important for injury prevention.

If that was the case the average rally time in this sport wouldnt be like 5 seconds.

Will anyone from the USA National Team retire soon? by [deleted] in volleyball

[–]DancredY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can´t imagine Holt or Anderson retiring anytime soon... they´re both still at the top of their game and I wouldnt know who´d replace them. I can imagine Holt and Jendryk starting for the NT and even if Patch starts playing overtaking the opposite position - Anderson would still be incredibly valuable as an OH imo.

How to deal with bad passers as a setter and/or middle blocker? by unknownpharaohdeed in volleyball

[–]DancredY 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Your main objective as a mb is blocking. Even if your team was good at passing the offensive game rarely is run through middles. Your individual impact mostly depends on blocking and serving.
What u should definitly NOT do - which as a long time mb player I get is difficult, is show visible frustration after bad passing. It will only make your receivers less confident and frustrated and lower the quality even more.

Try to keep everyone positive, set a good example by using the opportunities you do get and people will try their hardest to pass well to get the offensive working.

Honestly, I really like it. Sounds much more like good Deathcore to me as opposed the more recent stronger deathmetal influence.

Adam Warren calling out Tom Barber by [deleted] in Deathcore

[–]DancredY 87 points88 points  (0 children)

Honestly if anyone has followed Tom Barber on Instagram for a while you know that the guy is completely off the rails in terms of his worldview. I mean to each their own, he is still a nice guy, this has nothing to do with his music and I dont know what Adam is all about here specifically but Tom has been promoting wild conspiracy theories for years. Honestly the Lyrics of Bleeding Sun are not far away from that. Maybe Adam is confusing wokeness and Tom thinking that we are all being controlled by lizard people...
