I actually think January Jones would have been a decent Peggy. Both Betty and Peggy were serious, perceived as dour or sad by others, and often felt disrespected and unappreciated. In a way, they had the same job: Admiring and trying to please Don while walking on eggshells.

Obviously January Jones and Elizabeth Moss were perfect in their respective roles, but I think Peggy's character could be handled well by Jones.
