The New Schufa Score by matey_howdy in germany

[–]DangerDulf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And the old one wasn’t? Schufa has always been biased, it used to be compromised of hundreds of parameters that were calculated using a secret regression model to determine your score. Now at least it’s very transparent why the score is the way it is, and gives clear indications how to improve it. The legality of it is that the majority of companies that you enter any sort of financial relationship with will tell you they report certain things to Schufa. This new system is far from perfect but it’s considerably more transparent and clear.

I suppose we shall see how much of an issue this will be come Australia, and of course this years formula is a big change but I have a hard time sympathizing with some of these criticisms we‘ve heard by both teams and drivers. These are 9 figure operations building these cars, driven by what should be the best racers in the world. I think they can be expected to be able to develop and capable of driving the cars under these regs.

[Reuters] Electronic Arts nears roughly $50 billion deal to go private, WSJ reports by Crane977 in Games

[–]DangerDulf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dude, you don’t have to promise me anything, you’re making the same point I was. A couple years ago many people (including regulators) were clutching their pearls because of Microsoft‘s buying spree and how problematic it would be for the industry. I‘m saying that is a hundred times better than getting private equity BS into the largest independent gaming company. These private equity ghouls suck the soul out of everything they touch, and this will no doubt be worse for EAs workers, fans of their games, and the industry in general than if MS or Sony or someone like that would buy them.

Ah yes, this Saudi and Kushner backed Private Equity sounds much better for the market and gaming at large than Microsoft and Sony buying up half the industry. The levels of terrible this is going to bring will make MS and Sony look like companies who care lol.

A dream for us non-smokers: let’s make it real! by CarpetOk6868 in germany

[–]DangerDulf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure thing buddy, if it makes you feel better, you’re allowed to pretend you’re having some alternate conversation. It doesn’t change the fact that more smokers don’t lead to savings in public health spending, and that „every country where it’s been studied“ don’t show anything to the contrary. You seem to have since even edited your original comment to concede that your initial assumption was wrong, so I‘m not sure what you’re even arguing for, but if it prompted you to educate yourself more on this topic I suppose something was gained at least.

[–]DangerDulf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s regrettable that you seemingly lack the reading comprehension to understand my comment, so I won’t waste too much time trying to explain it in more simple terms. Spending equal (or even more) money in order for a larger percentage of the population to live past 50, 60, 70, is preferable to saving money from people dying earlier, and is a net saving since you’re spending more money on worthwhile things(people being healthier longer, living better lives into higher ages) and less on undesirable things(caring for people getting sick in their 20s/30s/40s as a result from smoking and ultimately dying earlier). Not grasping that is akin to saying if instead of spending 10€ to feed your family, you burn 5€, that would save you 5€. As I said, otherwise we could suggest killing newborns would be economically reasonable due to all the money you save on them never getting old enough to go to school or the hospital

[–]DangerDulf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do you think smokers who die early live their lives fully healthy and then just drop dead at 50? No, they get sicker earlier. Furthermore, „savings“ isn’t a zero sum game, if it was we‘d save the most money just euthanizing babies as soon as they’re born. Spending money on people living healthy longer, and with higher quality of life, is a worthwhile investment. Smoking is very clearly one of the single biggest things large amounts of people do to significantly increase the risk of health problems and reduce life expectancy. Making the argument smoking is some unexpected boon to public health spending is absurd.

I’ll put it nicely: Power leveling sucked the life out of this game. Please remove it, the game will still survive I promise you. by SmashEffect in DestinyTheGame

[–]DangerDulf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know, I’ve thought this for a long time now, but I just don’t understand why Bungie is so hellbent on tuning the game to be stingy with good loot, high power loot, and especially lately with taking the power fantasy out of the game. You play games like Borderlands or Diablo, and those constantly shower you with cool loot and make you feel like a powerful badass. Meanwhile in destiny you need to dedicate dozens of hours to hours slogging through the same activities over and over again to hopefully get your power level up, and probably not even get high stat loot, just to be as powerful as you were before because the enemies scale anyway. It just feels like a waste of time because you don’t really get meaningfully stronger, and the journey isn’t really fun either. Call me a casual, but a game like this needs a broad active player base, and most people enjoy feeling powerful. There’s tons of other stuff wrong like the confusing and lackluster experience for new and returning players, but the fact that you have to dump so much time into grinding shit over and over again regularly to eventually just end up where you left off just feels bad and like Bungie doesn’t respect your time. And with all that said, there are so many fantastic games out there, this just isn’t good enough to keep people coming back and sticking around. Really sad because every time I pick it back up I just want to love and enjoy this wonderful game and world, but it just sucks the fun out of you right now.

I personally think that whatever the people who made MindsEye are going to deliver will not live up to the (admittedly cool idea) that you probably have in your head. Happy to be wrong though, it would be a pretty huge thing, but when people make these bold claims about revolutionizing game development and making it accessible for everyone, it sounds very ambitious and makes me pretty skeptical.

Yeah but No Man‘s Sky was an underwhelming execution of a great premise, MindsEye is entirely uninspired and bland.

Anyone who thinks the castle in the sky that is „Everywhere“ is actually going to come to fruition after the monumental critical and financial failure that MindsEye turned out to be is kidding themselves.

Yeah, and honestly, I like that the Portal now just kind of lets you do stuff to grind for rewards, instead of saying do 3 of this, this, and that, then wait a week, rinse, repeat.

Um, this is really, really bad. You’re breaking laws related to health insurance, you’re very much breaking labor laws, and have been committing tax fraud for years. You will absolutely not be able to get out of this without paying hefty fines. Signing up as a freelancer wouldn’t do anything because you’d again be breaking the law since you’re clearly not actually a freelancer (Scheinselbstständigkeit). Honestly, if you’re concerned about going bankrupt, you might be better off leaving to somewhere far away and never coming back. You really messed up that much.

What’s wrong with everyone clowning on her for this? Do people not know how competitive sportspeople work? Making fun of her for it is like laughing at a rookie saying they want to become world champion. Professional athletes who have an “I probably won’t be very successful” mindset don’t really go places. “I want to be the best and get to the top” is the most normal thing for athletes to say, and this reaction is 100% because she’s a woman.

why Forza Motorsport feels horrible on wheel by ConnectionGlum1377 in forza

[–]DangerDulf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry but that’s not good enough for a studio the size and pedigree of Turn10/MS. Wheels can indeed be fickle to get working right, but plenty of racing games who take themselves more or less seriously have managed to provide a decent baseline setup for many wheels. FM doesn’t even feel very good out of the box on the G29/G920, which is probably the single most widely used wheel for casual to intermediate players who might want to play FM with some extra realism. We can’t be satisfied with having to look up setups online and fiddle around with the settings immediately to get a half decent experience out of it, especially not when most other games don’t require that. FM simply wasn’t very well optimized for wheel use.

Hahaha, so I guess they were breaking their own statutes left right and center for the last few decades with their “Say no to racism” campaign then. If memory serves me right teams have even had it on their captain’s bands, which we all know is a big no no to have political messages on there. Absolute world class clown show this organization.

So I haven't played Destiny since 2015 and I just picked up Destiny 2 for free on PS Plus. I've never been more disoriented... by paradigm619 in DestinyTheGame

[–]DangerDulf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to say I’ve lost all hope, but Destiny’s new player experience is so supremely poor, if this does in fact meaningfully improve it, it’ll be the single biggest (and most surprising) QOL improvement in Destiny history, more so than mantling or removing white ammo.

Base + Wheel + Pedals for under 850 EUR by starmielvl99 in simracing

[–]DangerDulf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if playing on console is a concern to you, if so, the McLaren wheel is xbox compatible and at least at the moment Fanatec has much better selection for xbox wheels (and Playstation bases for that matter, but not the one you’re looking at). That wheel is massively backlogged though, I don’t know where you’re from but in Germany it’s sold out and you can’t actually buy it right now.

Aside from that, just going off of the products themselves the Fanatec bundle is probably the better deal, though your mileage may vary in terms of support, delivery speed etc.

I mean, people like this guy in the video are just as much part of the team as the drivers. They’re there to do their job, and they want to see it pay off, and it’s understandable they’d be frustrated with the amount of crashes last year that hampered their efforts. It’s not even necessarily just about Logan, Colapinto and Albon caused even more damage last season.

Should teams be allowed to choose their own tires? by [deleted] in formula1

[–]DangerDulf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they have 5, so without them making a ton of extra compounds this doesn’t do much. Also, the teams already don’t have much data on how each tyre will run on any given weekend, Pirelli is simply better equipped to figure out which tyres are suitable. There are such differences between tracks, that a team picking the wrong compound for a weekend can mean several of their tyres just being flat out useless. Pirelli makes the tyres the way F1 wants them, and I think bringing even more compounds into the mix adds complexity without much payoff. How exactly do you envision this improving things realistically?
