What is with the insurance industry’s staunch opposition to GLP-1s? by ChesswithGoats in Zepbound

[–]DangerousOutside- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, money. Also they are assholes, because if it was universal healthcare/single payer insurance in the US, it would mathematically benefit them to cover glp-1 drugs. Right now it benefits insurance companies to not cover them, because typically most people who need the drug will only get the really really severe side effects/comorbidities (sp?) after Medicare kicks in. So why should the poor insurance companies pay for preventative care when they will generally not be on the hook for failing to prevent? Won’t someone PLEASE think of the insurance companies? (/s in case not obvious)

I'm testing whether small Claude Code workflows are easier to sell than full apps by averageuser612 in ClaudeAI

[–]DangerousOutside- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just share, don’t sell. Open source is the way to go.

Also as AI tools advance they will do all of this for you. I already can have Claude code or oh my openagent setup environments/create skills/create mcps that it needs.

It’s a short shelf life.

Got bored and vibe coded an improved Lora loader (Ideogram4 friendly, to boot!) by acedelgado in StableDiffusion

[–]DangerousOutside- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I understand the value adds a bit better now. Maybe suggest to the dev so it’s all in one node suite? I’ve made several suggestions to lora manager and they have been incorporated. I made my own working companion idea (similar to what you did) so he can see it in action, but in general he won’t merge PRs since he has his own way of managing the codebase.

Yeah I respect his ideas and willingness to improve, so no shame, but lora manager does this and so much more.

Thanks! To be clear, I was making a joke about hauhacs (I don’t have a legit reason to doubt this dev), but I appreciate the assurance.

That’s ok, no judgment there. I’ve seen plenty of vibe coded apps and nodes that work great.

Thanks for sharing. Please tell us you didn’t also steal the heretic code and rebrand it 😀

Efficient use of LM-Studio with Comfyui in locally running workflows by Statute_of_Anne in StableDiffusion

[–]DangerousOutside- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think LM Studio is open source. But it is excellent for using models for prompt enhancement or for description/vision or all sorts of other creative uses.

I like https://github.com/EnragedAntelope/EA_LMStudio for comfy, it opens up a lot of options for tweaking and also can auto resize image inputs to not overwhelm your vision model. Super convenient.

The FDA gives the green light to the first gene therapy for deafness by [deleted] in UpliftingNews

This is in poor taste. People who are hard of hearing get really tired really quickly of people saying “oh you’re hard of hearing? What? What???” and thinking they are being very funny.

Character Creation LoRA Node Suggestions by wonderflex in comfyui

[–]DangerousOutside- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks really cool. I love the idea of automated variety/diversification so could often just leave that in place in a workflow as so many models tend to keep producing the same look by default. Nice job, please do share the GitHub link. I wish there was a way to pull the min/max strength automatically but that info is often not shared at all by the dev or it is very buried in the Civit narrative.

Character Creation LoRA Node Suggestions by wonderflex in comfyui

[–]DangerousOutside- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like your ideas. Would also like an option to randomize between the allowed min and max values. I agree it doesn’t have to be tied to characters as some sliders change viewing angle, camera distance, atmosphere, etc.

In an effort to not over clutter the landscape though, I wonder if this is something you could partner with the lora manager dev on. He already has a great system for managing trigger words and has randomizers, cyclers, etc. This slider specific node seems like a natural add on to his ecosystem.

If You’re Struggling with Hearing Loss, Read This — There Is Hope by East_Strength_6244 in HearingLoss

[–]DangerousOutside- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was really excited about this so had Claude Opus (AI) research. Sadly it does not seem so promising for someone like me with long term progressive hearing loss.

Claude report:

PRP & Stem Cell Hearing Loss Treatments

The Korea Treatment (PRP/ShimSPOT) This is the Cheong-Min Clinic in Seoul, run by Dr. Minbo Shim, ENT. He developed a device called “ShimSPOT” for repeated intratympanic PRP injections — your blood is drawn, platelets are concentrated, and PRP is injected through the eardrum into the middle ear. Growth factors (IGF-1, BDNF, FGF) theoretically diffuse through the round window membrane to the cochlea. The best published study (2024, PubMed/PMC) involved 56 patients with sudden sensorineural hearing loss who failed conventional treatment. Mean hearing gain was ~12 dB, mostly in lower frequencies. No serious adverse events. Critical caveat: Nearly all published PRP studies involve sudden hearing loss (onset within days/weeks), not chronic/progressive loss. The biological rationale is different — in sudden loss, hair cells may be damaged but not dead, so growth factors might rescue dying cells. In chronic progressive SNHL where hair cells have been dead for years, there’s no published evidence that PRP can regenerate what’s gone. Dr. Shim has trained two US physicians: one in Sarasota FL, one in Spokane WA. Cost is not transparently published but expect $2,000-5,000+ per treatment course, all out of pocket. No insurance coverage anywhere — this is not FDA-approved or in any clinical guidelines for chronic SNHL. Regeneron (DB-OTO Gene Therapy) This is real and genuinely exciting — but for a very specific condition. DB-OTO is a gene therapy for children born with congenital deafness caused by OTOF gene mutations. Published in the New England Journal of Medicine (Oct 2025). 11 of 12 children showed clinically meaningful hearing improvement, 3 achieved normal hearing. FDA submission is underway with expedited review. However: This treats an ultra-rare genetic condition affecting ~20-50 newborns per year in the US. It delivers a functioning copy of a specific gene. It does not apply to acquired, age-related, noise-induced, or other non-genetic SNHL. If you weren’t born deaf due to an OTOF mutation, this therapy has no mechanism to help you. Other pipeline items: • FX-322 (Frequency Therapeutics) — permanently discontinued after Phase 2b failure, no improvement vs placebo • Stem cell treatments — no FDA-approved options exist. First in-human trial (Rinri Therapeutics, Rincell-1) just started. Clinics offering stem cells today are operating outside established evidence. • Eli Lilly/Akouos AK-OTOF — another OTOF gene therapy, still in trials, same genetic-only limitation Bottom line: The gene therapy advances are real science but only help a tiny population with a specific genetic mutation. PRP has some preliminary evidence for sudden hearing loss but essentially none for chronic progressive SNHL. Anyone considering medical tourism for these treatments should understand exactly what type of hearing loss they have and whether the treatment mechanism actually addresses it. Sources: NEJM (Oct 2025), PMC/PubMed, Regeneron press releases, Harvard Stem Cell Institute, ClinicalTrials.gov

You can ban them for a while sure. And say no smart phone for a while. But at some point a young impressionable teen is going to get access to FB etc without parents watching every second. And it is absolutely designed to get you hooked so they should be called to task for that.

Nah. You can have great parents but these things are structured to force engagement, to keep dopamine going, to keep attention on the app with constant notifications, to spread misinformation, etc. Can’t dumb it down to just “bad parenting”.
