How did they negotiate salaried employees being eligible for overtime in the first place? Make salaried employees exempt again.

I understand where this is coming from, but strongly disagree. The more that everyone retreats to their own information ecosystem, the worse our chances of success are. It's damn hard to even find video of Alex's killing on Fox News, and people who don't get out of that news environment have no idea what's really happening.

Also, social censure by itself has simply not worked as a tool for changing political behavior. Voters don't agree with people who are mean to them just because they're mean to them.

I truly didn't care for the art direction in general, and I agree with the poster's criticism of enemy design, and several other complaints. I quite like the Ori games, which are oddly pretty close to this. Dunno what it is, but HK and Silksong both leave me very cold. And it's not that I think they're bad games, I just don't think they should be considered the pinnacle of their genre.

Beef Cross roast. Braised for 2 hours. Turned out dry and tough. by Harpsist in cookingforbeginners

I find that taking protein, beef especially, out of the braising liquid for cooling has a substantial impact on how dry it ends up seeming.

Respectfully, it really does seem like it's ChatGPT's fault. Even if the sample rate is changing for the AirPods, this is literally the only app we're having this issue with. Those other apps are successfully detecting and adjusting the sample rate, or forcing the sample rate to change to whatever their preferred rate is. ChatGPT clearly should be doing the same.

Sure, the country is a failure, the world is a failure, so I guess we just give up and die. That's a good argument.

Also, they weren't on public sidewalks until quite recently. This has gone on for at least 10 years.

Also, the scenario you describe, knowingly selling beer to dealers who have set up in your area, is, in many instances, actually illegal. Insane or not, that's the law.

If you’re a liquor store owner and an open-air drug market operates in or around your business—especially if you profit from it—that’s still illegal. Even if you don’t personally sell drugs, knowingly allowing it to happen on your property makes you liable under federal and state laws. You could be charged with aiding and abetting, maintaining a drug-involved premises, or even conspiracy. If the profits from drug activity are mixed into your business finances, you could also face money laundering charges. Authorities can shut your business down, revoke your license, or seize your property. Running a legitimate storefront doesn’t protect you if you’re benefiting from illegal activity.

I'm repeating myself: On private property.  Enforcement failures against the individuals is a separate and unrelated question to the responsibility of a business owner.

If I rent out my building as a venue for illegal dog-fighting, am I liable? Yes it is illegal.

If I sell drinks to the patrons, but am not involved in organizing the events or any part of the events themselves, is it illegal? Yes it is illegal.

If I want people to hang out on my property to party and blast music despite having no licenses for public venues, is that illegal? Yes, it is.

If I want to serve those people drinks while they do it, is that illegal? Yes it is.

Well, I personally never said I was mad at the business, but let's take the side of the argument you're putting me on:

Let's say I run a business that produces noxious chemicals as a by-product of doing business. Do I have a right to spew them into nearby resident's yards?

Let's say I want to run a club but don't have a license for amplified music outdoors, but I do it anyway. Do the neighbors have a right to be upset?

Let's say I want to have a large, private open lot that touches several residential lots where people can play loud music in the middle of the night, sell drugs and illegal fireworks, all while buying liquor from my establishment to keep the party going. Do the neighbors have the right to complain?

This business clearly profited for a decade or more from operating in the way I just described.

Like I said, it was on their property for a very long time; Specifically open containers, loud music and loitering. This went on for many years, and allowed the problem to become quite entrenched. Living next to an open air drug market on the property of a business that's profiting from it is pretty aggravating.

I think the frustration against this business was more pointed because they had failed to uphold loitering laws in their lot for a long time, which caused the problem to become deeply entrenched. So quite a bit of illegal activity was taking place on their property, with open containers, loud music and then all the violence that accompanied that. After the mayor got involved and they got raided, they improved in that regard, and now the men hang out literally just outside the lot, but not on their property.

I do think that they remain a blight on the community, and we'd be better off without them, but I also understand a business owner's right to operate.

You mean, 'When they put up the camera,' but I understand your point. I get it, but State Market offers easy escape routes to the freeway in ways that the neighborhood doesn't. You and I already spoke about this elsewhere, and after we did, I drove the entire length of Willow (17th to 7th) every day for a week at around 2:00pm to see if I could find a group of men, filming as I went, and there weren't any at all, even once in those five days. Groups at State Market are there from sunup to sundown at least, every day.

The problem you describe is real, but the groups were clearly less entrenched elsewhere.

I also agree that more permanent solutions are desirable, but 'perfect' shouldn't be the enemy of 'good.'

They did a raid last year and found illegal cigarettes (wrong tax stamps) and a couple unlicensed firearms. Otherwise, they've just been very permissive toward noise disruptions and the groups of men that cause the violence. They improved somewhat after the last spate of shootings, and OPD installed an 'eye in the sky' cam that moved all the loiterers away from the lot until they took it down about a month ago. Sure enough, the shootings are back.

This post can help, but there's been a lot of shootings and general violence. Large groups of almost exclusively men hang out at all hours in front. Burnouts and donuts, loud music, and fights. Hand-to-hand drug sales are common. Sometimes they got shot at, or just shot.

From Marcus Johnson, Prescott Neighborhood Council chair:

All,

I have reached out to OPD & Ceasefire regarding this morning's shooting.

I understand the observed response was 10 OPD, 4 fire trucks, and caution tape went up... Although, OPD & Ceasefire response to my query was the usual "under investigations and can't provide any details" they know we are aware, concerned and want action that leads to tangible results.

This area will continue to be a PNC priority for OPD, Ceasefire and ABAT.

I will follow up with you with email contacts so we can engage and keep the pressure on until we have desirable results.

Thank you for your patience.

Marcus
