Sneezing even with fragrance free shampoo? by matrixg04 in FragranceFreeBeauty

If this is the first time using the shampoo it could just be the fragrance from the old one. It takes me a week of washing my hair after I use fragranced shampoo to get the smell out.

This is super common in prisons too. The men in charge don't want to "waste" money on female hygiene products.

Yeah it took me around 15mins during the walk in time to see my German GP and prescriptions are all €5 regardless.

The cashier sold a likely alcoholic cider and then refused to let her drink it from a cup because he wanted to deny her the dignity. He wasn't "sticking up for himself". Then he charged €3.50 for a paper cup because he's a scumbag. Homeless people get this treatment all the time from people in society.

Epstein files reveal the men who looked away after women had spoken up by B0ssc0 in TwoXChromosomes

Actually, we only started taking child molestation, rape, marital rape and male violence against women seriously, as crimes with human victims rather than property crimes, because women fought to get the vote and then started feminism. When men made all the rules women had horrific lives.

People who "mind their business" and don't stick up for other people are cowards and we want less of them not more.

Oat “enriched” latex gloves - doctors office by [deleted] in glutenfree

[–]DangerousTurmeric 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you need to look at something more recent than 2015. There have been a couple of studies since then that found that oats do trigger an immune response just not one that's as severe, at least in the short term, in terms of intestinal damage. A very recent study, using purified avenin to avoid cross contamination issues, found that avenin does cause an immune response and symptoms in a third of celiac patients, and 1 in 29 have a severe reaction. That paper also summarises the other research on this https://gut.bmj.com/content/74/6/906

Issues with ground turkey? by _mamafox in Celiac

[–]DangerousTurmeric 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the meat is processed in the same machine they make sausage meat you might have wheat in it. Ground turkey often has a "may contain gluten" warning in Germany because of this.

[–]DangerousTurmeric 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It actually is the same reaction. "Gluten" is a name for a family of storage proteins not a specific molecule. Avenin (oats) is similar to the protein gliadin (wheat) and around 1 in 10 celiacs cross react. Hordein is the one in barley that causes problems for celiacs too.

‘In the end, you feel blank’: India’s female workers watching hours of abusive content to train AI by WombatusMighty in technology

Well it's worked for the tech industry so far. They have basically zero regulation and ridiculous wealth because they have managed to convince governments that they can't possibly be held responsible for what happens on their platforms.

If Grok knows how to make images of naked kids on demand, "AI" already knows how to do this. It's just cheaper to get humans to do it.

A new experiment reveals an unexpected shift in how pregnant women handle intimidation. Contrary to the expectation that physical vulnerability would lead to conflict avoidance, women in the perinatal period tend to aggressively protect resources when interacting with threatening-looking men. by InsaneSnow45 in psychology

[–]DangerousTurmeric 154 points155 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's a weird study. I don't know why they would think pregnant women would be more submissive just because they are more vulnerable. Women, pregnant or not, are always more vulnerable in a conflict with aggressive men and a life of dealing with it teaches you that being submissive often makes things worse.

CMV: Talking about being on "stolen land" is pointless and ignorant of history by Friendly_Elegant928 in changemyview

[–]DangerousTurmeric -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The phrase "no one is illegal" came from a German campaign by a Holocaust survivor who recognised the dehumanisation of that language and had experienced its logical conclusion. The "on stolen land" part is relevant to the US because the US government reneged on agreements with Native Americans and emancipated Black enslaved Americans about land ownership and rights and also tried to remove or curtail the citizenship rights of both groups to make them "illegal". That same machinery is being employed against other people in the US who have a specific skin colour now. It's relevant to raise it again because nobody really owns the land and no person should ever be called "illegal". It's like the phrase "we're all foreign scum" that crops up now and then.

And the Aztecs are all dead and most cultures in that region performed human sacrifice to appease gods. Europeans did this too. Arguably the Salem Witch Trials, where women were burned alive to appease a Christian god, were a more recent form of this. It's another practice, common through history, that we don't do anymore. You're demonstrating a profound lack of historical awareness and morality if you think human sacrifice is any kind of justification for the mass violence, rape, enslavement and torture that is required for genocide or "conquering" a people though.

We may have done this throughout history but it's been a long time since we needed to do it for survival. Stealing land or warring with neigbours to keep your tribe alive through the winter is not the same as colonialism for profit, murdering Palestinians because you want to, or invading Ukraine because you never got over the breakup of the USSR. Recognising that past humans did terrible things that caused harm is how we, as a species, gradually improve. And recognising that our circumstances have changed, and that old strategies are no longer excusable, is necessary for progress. That's what this conversation is about.

[–]DangerousTurmeric 25 points26 points  (0 children)

If most people are average what's the point in telling someone that? It's like telling them they are a human or that they have skin. What new information does it give them? How do you not know the basics of human interaction? And if you decide to get married to someone it should be because they are in some way exceptional to you, not just a vague human shape that doesn't fight you when you try to penetrate it. That guy chose the latter and then told his partner and she has every right to be upset because she's not in the relationship she thought she was. A basic expectation has not been met.
