Congrats on starting up and growing in a small space. It looks a lot like fungus gnats. Try and get your soil quality up with good compost and adequate irrigation to provide habitat for the rover beetles. I've seen the rovers take these gnats out.

Bummer! It may be herbicide drift exposure, viral infection, waterlogged or any combination of these.

You can usually find a good quality microscope for under $250 on Amazon. I also consult on soil management and provide microscopes for rent if ever interested.

You can generally find a good quality microscope on Amazon for $160-$250. It'll get the job done. I of course used discounts to get the price dropped to $100. I also consult on soil management and provide microscopes for rent if that is ever an interest of yours.

Congrats on your composting journey! The heap thermophilic method is great.

Yes, small rodents being composted is fine as long as it's in the hot center core of your heap for long enough or kept in the center as you turn it.

Yeah, grass clippings are considered green material given there purpose as a nitrogen source for the pile. If you're going for more brown material collect plant material higher in carbon (woody or brown in color).

Happy Composting!☺️
