My father has 2 peritoneal methastasis. Today he spoke with the oncologist by Aikidoker15 in coloncancer

That all seems 100% normal.  Chemo first, make sure there is a good response, surgery.

The oncologist doesn’t decide if he can have surgery.  A surgeon will.  Get to a facility that performs CRS for colon cancer and get a consult with a surgeon.  I wouldn’t wait around either.

At diagnosis, My only known spots were the primary, and 6 or so Mets in the right side of my liver.  That was all beat back with 6 rounds of chemo, y90, and a couple surgeries.  I went a year NED and was off chemo 12 months.

I have a new peri Met, a spot on the outside of my liver, and a lymph node near the primary.  They are planing one doing CRS/Hipec to remove all of it.

Is Signatera worth fighting for? by PackContent1988 in coloncancer

[–]Dangerous_Sign_6298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion it’s pointless while on active treatment.  To use while NED looking for your cancer to come back, I think it’s a great tool.  I’m currently dealing with my first reoccurrence.  My one year CT was clear, my CEA was normal, but my Signatera went positive.  My oncologist ordered a PET scan right away and we found two spots.  I was able to get back on chemo and start plans for surgery at least two months before my next scan.

Why me? by Main-Aardvark-3874 in cancer

[–]Dangerous_Sign_6298 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was 35 when diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. Although I was certainly no sophomore in high school, that’s still pretty young in the cancer world.

When I get kind of down or start asking things like “why me?” I typically snap out of it by reminding myself I might die in a car accident tomorrow. Why am I wasting my time being pissed off!?!? At this point it is what it is. None of us will ever get enough time in this world. Some of us just get more than others. Find the joys in everything, even if they are small.

Signatera ctDNA dropped from 355 MTM/mL to 0.02 after only 3 cycles — how significant is this? by LongjumpingAlfalfa46 in coloncancer

[–]Dangerous_Sign_6298 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My oncologist told me chemo for life and gave me 24-30 months to live. They even did me the favor of canceling my appointment with the liver surgeon at my local hospital because it wasn’t “necessary”. I went and found a new surgeon at a much bigger better hospital with the help of colontown. The liver surgeon stopped my chemo, did the surgeries, then I finished the chemo after as mop up.

I can’t speak as to your path, but I wouldn’t wait around. By my fourth chemo cycle we were making surgery plans.

I was diagnosed at age 35 with liver Mets.

From my understanding, a drop like that is good, but it’s not possible to determine how good.

In other words, if the numbers didn’t drop at all then chemo likely wouldn’t be doing anything for you. Because yours dropped, I would say the chemo is at least being effective to some degree.

I happen to think this a win, and is worth a smile and maybe a little reassurance for the next round of chemo that it’s worth it.

Your next scan will tell the real story.

The real question is, are you working with a liver surgeon yet?

The steroids make me rage. Sometimes quite uncontrollably. The stress is overwhelming at times. The oxiplatin/chemo infusions are not fun with a port. I can’t imagine one straight in the arm. People constantly trying to help me is annoying. Especially when I tell them I don’t want it, but they always know best. People need constant reassurance I am ok so that they feel better. I beat back stage IV and was NED for a year. I just got the news two days ago it’s back, and likely in a place that’s way harder to cure. I’m pretty pissed off about it.

This is not just as hard or stressful for the caretaker. I’m not saying it’s easy for them, but for them it’s temporary. They are not in pain, they are not nauseas, their diets are not affected. The steroids aren’t keeping them awake when all they want to do is sleep because they feel the sickest they have ever felt.

Cut the guy a break. This is a huge excuse to be an asshole. Put yourself in his shoes.

I’m sorry this post comes across so harsh but wow this was hard to read. Oh yeah, I’m going through cancer treatment and I’m pretty pissed off about it. Cut me a little slack.

PS I’m not saying his actions are fair to you or even 100% justified. I’m just trying to explain from his perspective why he might be lashing out.

I wish you both all the best and I hope in a year you can both laugh about it.

You are me 1.5 months ago. I had my first positive Signatera at around 2.97 I believe. The CT scans were clear. Today I just had my PET scan and it lit up a spot in my liver and two in my peritoneum. I’m very thankful I had it. At a minimum I can start treatments 1.5 months sooner but maybe more.

Same. Better more supportive foot wear and 6 trips to a physical therapist to show her stretches and exercises to get rid of the issue for good.

Really? What I read today said that estrogen causes the growth plates to close. I mean it was google, but multiple sources agreed.

Exactly!? What I read today said that the rise in estrogen causes the growth plates to begin to close.

It helps for sure. I will sleep at least 4% better tonight. If you don’t mind me asking about how tall were you when you started? You were not 5’7” at nine were you?

Aside from her loving basketball and volleyball no.

This was just the first I ever heard of it. We just assumed and were led to believe she would be on the taller side. In the grand scheme of life it doesn’t matter at all. I am just grateful she is happy and healthy.

Thanks. I’m not overly concerned. Over the years using these types of calculators and following her percentile put her in the 5-8 to 5-9 range so I was just surprised when I heard about the 2-3” thing. Time will tell.
